Andy is a huge admirer of woodturner Mark Sanger RPT.
Mark recently shared photos, on Instagram, of some hollowforms he'd been working on with his lovely wife to produce a stunning verdigris effect.
Following enquiries, and purchasing of the coloured wax, Andy had to have a play.

Nice bowl, well done. Chestnut recommend applying the ebonising lacquer directly to bare wood, as sanding sealer only serves to fill the grain, thereby reducing the effect you are aiming for. You should also brush out the grain beforehand to free it of excess dust from sanding. They do sell a liming brush for this, although personally, I use compressed air. Once again, nice work.

Thanks Ray, make sure you use an open grained timber such as Ash, Oak or Sweet Chestnut for best results 👍

I really like this, nice job, would using Tung Oil work in the same way as the Lemon Oil? thanks for sharing Cheers

Thanks Grahame, lemon oil is really thin and evaporates quickly so it will help cut through the excess wax without leaving a residue. Tung oil is too thick, I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't have lemon oil a paste wax such as woodwax22 works just as well. Rub it on and ot will help lift the excess coloured wax, then just buff off.

Your bowl is beautiful. Your stance could get you in trouble at some point. Your left arm and body are directly in the line of fire should your bowl go flying. And, it happens to all of us. If possible it would be advisable to use a tailstock. All you have to do is move your body to in front of the tool rest and you are out of the line of fire. Sometimes old habits are hard to break. Just some friendly advice learned the hard way, don't take offense, none meant. Take care, Larry

Awesome work Andy, the colour contrast is amazing. The whole bowl is really 😬 Do you use a oil based black paint to spray or water based? Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍

Thanks Bluey I use the Chestnut Products Ebonising Lacquer which is the black pigmented version of their Acrylic Satin Lacquer. It's a devil to get off your fingers 🤣 link below: chestnutproducts.co.uk/product/ebonising-lacquer/
