they were branded with the title "the worlds most dangerous band" by parents and media back in the day. i always found it hilarious that the last line, in the first album, from the most dangerous people, was "all i ever wanted, was for you, to know that i care." edit: thank you for doing whole thing. love what you do.

On the other hand, they were heavily into alcohol and drugs, Steven Adler, Slash, and Duff all at some point were close to death due it. Slash was actually dead for a few minutes and was brought back, Duff was given weeks to live because of alcohol related problems, and Adler has lingering issues to this day due to damage caused by drug consumption. According to Slash's own autobiography, both his trademark top hat, and the amp he used to record this album were stolen. Axl was constantly getting into violent altercations. They were so unruly that they were filling up venues and no one would give them a record deal because of how volatile they were. Also, Rocket Queen is a work of art, only Guns N' Roses could have written it.

Great reaction to the whole album 👍. In 1987 music was starting to change back to a harder, more stripped down sound. You could see it in the clubs and start hearing it with Guns N' Roses. I had a lot of mixed tapes and CDs and EPs from local and regional bands across the West Coast and they sounded nothing like the music from 1982-1987, I thought we were going back to a Punk and pure hard Rock period by the late 80s and we kinda did, too bad it ended before the end of the 90s. "Old music eats new music" probably the most accurate thing I heard last year.

My top 3 rock albums are 1) Back in Black/AC/DC 2) Appetite for Destruction/GNR 3) Shake your Moneymaker/Black Crowes. Those three albums....not a bad song on any of them. Three albums that you can listen to from beginning to end, and not hear a bad song.

"It's like starting this song out so sweet and then, bang!, change up." I think you'd really like the story behind "My Michelle." One of Axl's female friends asked him one day to write a song about her. So he did. He wrote a nice sweet ballad type song, but as he listened to it he realized it wasn't really about HER. So he went back and rewrote it, making it a heavy, dirty, nasty song about the person she really was. He played it for her and she absolutely loved it.

Really enjoyed your reactions on these! This album really changed the face of rock music in the 80s, as many other commenters have pointed out. Slash was my first guitar hero when I was 10 and I'm still amazed and inspired by so much of what he did on these Guns albums. After you've gone ahead and listened to G N' R Lies and the Use Your Illusion albums (which you simply must do immediately! can't wait to watch!) I would love to see you react to some of their live material from the early 90s. I'd say, along with Queen and Metallica, Guns N' Roses in the early 90s were among the most awe-inspiring and exciting bands ever to watch in concert. They produced a full-length concert video in Tokyo on that tour, and I also remember watching live when they did a pay-per-view show in Paris, which is also not that hard to find these days. A couple notes for you on some questions you had: - The strange guitar-like sound on "Anything Goes" is a guitar being played through an effect called a talk box. Essentially, it runs the amplified guitar sound through a silicone tube into the player's mouth, so he can shape the sound with his mouth the same way you do when you speak, and then it gets picked up by a microphone just like vocals. Peter Frampton made it really popular in the 70s, and many other rock guitarists picked it up after that. - You mentioned that "Rocket Queen" would be a great set closer. In fact, Guns always ended their shows, at least from 1991 on, with "Paradise City." The opening song was either "It's So Easy" or "Nightrain", I guess depending on how well Axl's voice was warmed up. The second tune was "Mr. Brownstone," and then they'd kind of do whatever they felt like for the next two hours. Every show was an adventure. Also, don't miss their music videos from the 90s! "Don't Cry", "November Rain", and "Estranged" form a sort of trilogy, and they're all epic productions.

Just finished watching both videos of this album. I'm so happy that you enjoyed it and seemed to rock out to it. From start to finish, this whole album was perfect. I was 11 or 12 when this came out, and grew up on rock, led zeppelin, pink Floyd, the police, etc... but this band was, to me, my generation of rock. I was a huge Axl Rose fan as well. I saw them in 1992, during the Use Your Illusions Tour. And I'm so happy I did. I've seen them two other times, 2017 & 2021, after Slash (lead guitarist) and Duff (bassist) reunited back with Axl. I'm not sure where you live, I'm assuming somewhere in Europe?? If so, they are actually touring Europe in June and July of 2023. Starting in Spain on June 9th - and going from there. I would highly suggest seeing them. I do have to tell you that Axl's voice ( higher registry) is gone, but his lower registry is on point still... especially for being 60-61 now. Slash does a lot of solos and carries the show, along with Duff... and to see Slash it's well worth it and seeing them live. Hope you're able to see them. And also check out their other albums as well. Enjoy the music journey. Take care from the states 🇺🇲.

Anything goes solo is Slash using a talk box a tube that leads from the amp to your mouth, sound is channeled through the tube and you use your mouth to distort the sound and create talking like effect sounds

Seen these guys about 16 times now. Best band in the world for me. Saw Slash and Myles 4 times when they were a thing. Yeah I like these guys 😀

GnR is still touring, if you get the chance you should definitely go, they usually play for 3 hours and change, and they still sound awesome.

This was the definitive album of the early 90’s. This album was the soundtrack to a major part of my teens. An absolute banger of an album.

In "Anything Goes," the different sound is still a guitar, but Slash is using something called a talk box. It's a weird effect that you actually control with your mouth via tube. "Beverly Hills" by Weezer is a more recent example of a song that uses one, even though that song is pretty old now.

Rocket Queen is bar none the best closer I've ever heard in an album. The outro always gets me in the feels. They actually used to close their concerts with a tune called "good night tonight". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mN6Sm8Zkvs2Ug4E.html

Finally someone else heard the claps in Think About You! The sides of the LP where called G side and R side. The Guns side have sonngs about drugs, drinking, the livin' on the atreets. At the Rose side they talk about relationships. Yes, there was a guitar makin' the solo at Anything Goes, using a microfone togeter to give "voice" to the guitar. And the "left-right" guitar at Rocket Queen are impressive, aren't? If the bass left some space in our attention for them...
