Clock strikes every half hour. The movement is unique in that the battery operates the strike train mechanism, which automatically winds a mainspring for the time train. Then the time train runs off from the nearly constant mainspring power to operate a traditional brass and steel auto-beat escapement to keep remarkably good time within a few minutes each month. I put a battery in 6 months ago, and it shows no signs of running low on power. Pretty amazing hybrid electromechanical engineering that went into the design of this movement! Unlike most battery clocks, the strike sounds on real metal rods once every half hour and counts out the hours. A much more realistic sound than any other battery or quartz movement that plays electronic sounding chimes out of a loudspeaker.
