I was watching this in college with some friends. One of them got distracted for a bit when the pipe bomb blew up the terminator skeleton. She looked back, and said, "Wait, what happened? What's that in Sarah's leg?" I said, "Oh, Reece got blown up. It's one of Reece's pieces." YEEAAAHHHH

The Terminator's eyebrows were burned 🔥 off from the explosion just prior to his 👊 punching through the windshield to grab Sarah Connor. I believe he now looks more menacing with no eyebrows and not quite human. Almost like an unstoppable Frankenstein monster! -OG

Everything about this movie is great, from the cool synthesized music score, the characters, the story, classic lines, it all screams timeless classic 😊

Verowak, you are sharp and in tune with this film. I’ve seen this so many times and I didn’t see what you saw in your first time: You saw the Police Lt. (Paul Winfield) believe Kyle during his interrogation by the Psychiatrist. In a deleted scene as Kyle and Sarah try to escape from the burning Police Station, Paul Winfield wounded and bleeding calls out to Kyle. He gives Kyle his gun (the same gun Kyle gives Sarah in the motel room). He tells Kyle to save Sarah and do everything to keep her alive. Bravo, Verowak.

That Wizard of Oz reference you made blew my mind. Tin Man really does have a heart. He just ripped it from a living persons body. This is the reason why I watch movie reactions. You get something new from someone else's perspective almost every time. It's comments like that reference that make me think of what the director is trying to say. The many references they're trying to juxtapose.

Ever since Arnold said "I'll be back" in this movie, I can't think of one movie of his since then where he doesn't say it. That line has some how been worked into every movie of his since.

Another choice Arnold (as opposed to the director) made: in the scene where he is driving around scanning the area for Kyle and Sara (the one where you first see him without eyebrows) Arnold chose to have the movement of his eyes precede the movement of his head slightly as it swiveled left and right on his neck because it appeared more robotic (something like a surveillance camera).

Without exaggeration, the best reaction to this cult film! This is one of my favorite movies since childhood, so thank you very much for the gorgeous reaction in many ways!)

Here's the only thing I will tell you about T1 vs T2. - Terminator Budget: $6 million - Terminator 2 Budget: $100 million You can definitely see it in the quality of the visuals as well as the story telling. You are going to love it.

I just love your reactions Verowak. The studio originally wanted Arnold, whose name was growing in popularity at the time but who was still an unknown as an actor, to play Reese and convinced James Cameron to meet with him. According to an interview I saw, Cameron didn't think he was right for the role but, during the meeting, Arnold kept telling Cameron how he thought the Terminator should be like. By the end of the meeting, Cameron decided Arnold would be good as the Terminator. Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone had already turned down the role. O.J. Simpson was considered, but Cameron didn't think he would make a convincing killer. For the famous "I'll be back" line, Arnold tried to convince Cameron that it should be changed to "I will be back". He said in an interview that he didn't think the Terminator would use the word "I'll". Cameron insisted it stay the way he wrote it and, according to Arnold, got fed up with the arguing and yelled "I don't tell you how to f---ing act, you don't tell me how to f---ing write!" and Arnold gave in. The sequel has a much bigger budget and is one of the few sequels that's better than the original. The third movie gets a lot of hate from the fans, but I don't think it's that bad and is worth a watch. It does wrap up the trilogy, plus it has one of the greatest chase scenes ever filmed. If you're looking for more Arnie films to watch after you're done with these, personally I'd recommend True Lies, Total Recall, Eraser, and Last Action Hero

In a scene that's cut from the movie, you see that the end scene was set in the Cyberdyne computer factory and skynet was created from the technology derived from the terminator.

This was the first "I'll be back" in Arnold's career. He adopted it as a catchphrase and kinda overused going forward until it became a joke. Cool Reaction!

What is so sad is that while talking about the picture, Kyle mentioned how sad Sarah looked. He used to always wonder what she was thinking about. Kyle didn’t know that she was thinking of him. Kyle and Sarah are like true soul mates. Their lives and love are intertwined in some kind of time loop.

This was a lower budget cult film that didn't get a lot of studio promotion. My friends and I were in high school when this came out and of course we were blown away by the film and the whole story concept. It got its popularity from mostly word of mouth.

Since you loved this one, you're going to thoroughly enjoy the next! T1 was a low budget film. Arnold almost didn't take it because he thought the film was going to be dumb and didn't want to play the villain. The next movie, T2 was at the time the most expensive film ever made (until Titanic I believe) and holds up quite well visually 30+ years later.

You will thoroughly LOVE the second movie.

The first movie was a really good movie (and one of the first of James Cameron). But the second is part of this very short list of films that are better than the first! A masterpiece.

What I like best about this movie is the cyclical nature of the whole thing. John is born precisely because the machines sent a terminator back in time to try to stop him from being born. Without the war, John would not exist. It's all inevitable.

When this movie was first released, and popular culture wasn’t full of references from it, the audience didn’t really know that one of the travellers from the future was a good guy sent to rescue her, which added to the already extreme anxiety in the first act of the movie. It was like, how is she going to survive two different killers competing to get to her? And so the classic line ”come with me if you wanna live” was actually a reveal. (And a huge relief at that). Unfortunately there is no way to watch these pop-cultural landmarks the way they were first seen. We can only try to be aware of it.

"He now has a heart" Fun fact ; in the original storyline the Terminator had a set of miniature organs including a chicken sized heart to supply his flesh with nutrients . When Reese shot him in the chest in Tech Noir it destroyed the heart and from then on he was rotting , hence the janitors "you got a dead cat in there ?" remark.

Fantastic catch that the Terminator has no eyebrows after being set briefly on fire. I've seen the movie countless times and never consciously noticed that, just that he was looking less human over time. Great eye!

When James Cameron pitched the film to the studio execs, they said that they liked it, but that it wasn't a sci-fi movie. They said "This is an action movie." Cameron was stunned as his story has two of the main elements of science fiction- robots and time travel. But the studio promoted it as an action/chase film anyway.

They had no budget in this movie it was amazing that they could pull it off. James Cameron would drive around L.A. without a permit and shoot scenes with Arnold walking around. This is one of the few times Arnold was the bad guy and he was great at it !!!!!!!!! Can't wait for T2 when you can see what James Cameron can do with a budget !!!!!

Wow. I've rewatched Terminator 2 a lot more than this, so I always forget how RAW this one is, both in the sense of how it was filmed with basically zero permits or budget, but also in how intense and gritty the action is, and how much generally darker the vibe of the film is, score and all. All that said, this first film is great, but the second? It's a *masterpiece.* My favourite Arnie films are probably either Terminator 2 or Predator!

Miss former competitive bodybuilder, the second terminator in Kyle's flashback (flash forward?) was played by Arnold's friend and training partner Franco Columbu, Mr Olympia 1976 & 1981. (Both times Arnold retired, Franco won it the following year.)

It was one of the first films I rented from the Video rental store, after we rented our first VHS recorder/player in the mid-`80`s. You could not miss it they had multiple VHS cases on display, it was so popular. Looking forward to watching your next reaction to Arnold/The Terminator franchise.

The TV show, The Sarah Connor Chronicles is also quite good. Takes place after T2. Sadly it got canceled before it got a proper ending.

My favorite slasher movie ever made. The low budget nature of this and the way it was shot makes it hold up surprisingly well in my opinion. Although the jerky stop motion used for the full endo skeleton is occasionally a bit too jerky, it kind of works for an entirely robotic character. Reese has some of my favorite expository dialogue in any movie ever made, between his explanations to Sarah and Dr. Silberman about the future, it's great writing and performing. No spoilers about the sequel, but can't wait for you to see it. If you didn't notice Sarah putting money in the pay phone to call the cops when 911 calls are (or were) generally free on pay phones, 911 was not a universal emergency number for far longer than you would imagine. It started rolling out in 1968, but had only reached about 50% of the country by 1987. This also might explain why she got their busy message, each police department had to have their own dispatch and Los Angeles' was occasionally overwhelmed.

Hey, Veronique! This is a modern classic of science fiction. This movie put director James Cameron on the map and became one of Schwarzenegger's signature roles. "I'll be back." and "Come with me if you want to live." entered into the general lexicon. This is my favorite of the franchise but many prefer the sequel to the original. The first sequel is well worth watching and is also directed by Cameron. There are six films in the series which grow increasingly convoluted and provide diminishing returns although they are all entertaining on some level. However, none match the simplicity and elegance of the original in my opinion. A very popular franchise, "The Terminator" spawned a television series, a comic book series, multiple video games, detailed action figures for adult collectors and merchandise. Several actors who would later feature in Cameron's "Aliens" worked with him here first: -- Kyle Reese was played by Michael Biehn who would go on to be Cpl. Dwayne Hicks -- the punk with the blue spiky hair was played by the late Bill Paxton who would go on to be Pvt. Hudson -- the lanky Det. Vukovich was played by Lance Henriksen who would go on to be the android Bishop The late Paul Winfield, who played Lt. Traxler, was an accomplished character actor known for his love of science fiction, his amazing performance in "Sounder" and his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The late Dick Miller, who played the gun shop owner, was a prolific character actor best known for "Gremlins". Earl Boen, who played the skeptical psychologist Dr. Silberman, reprises the role twice more in the franchise! Linda Hamilton also reprises the role of Sarah Connor twice more in the franchise and, like Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, the character became a feminist icon. A war against thinking machines is a common trope of cinematic and literary science fiction but this is the film that popularized the concept into the mainstream consciousness. Robot revolution remains one of the top five doomsday scenarios of the genre which include alien invasion, nuclear holocaust, viral pandemic and ecological collapse. It is a surprisingly romantic film with lines like, "I came across time for you, Sarah." The most romantic element in the movie is that the picture of Sarah given to Kyle by their son, John Connor, which causes Kyle to fall in love with Sarah captures a moment where she's remembering Kyle and the time they shared. He cherished an image of a frozen moment when she was thinking of him. Beautiful detail.

I'm glad you enjoyed this movie, yet I'm curious how much you'll love the sequel which is one of the best ones in the history of cinema. The first movie is needed as context for T2, which is a masterpiece! They drop off badly after that and are easily skippable. But then for a fun bit of nostalgia, Linda Hamilton is back as Sarah in Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), which feels like a direct sequel to T2.

God, I didn't know there were people my age who hadn't seen the Terminator. 😁 He no longer had eyebrows because the first thing the fire takes are the thin hairs, including the eyebrows. Another cool trivia is that O.J Simpson was also considered for the role but they passed it up because at the time they said he didn’t look like he’d pass as a killer. This was before the trials of course. I love the classic 80s retro song this movie has. They really wanted to make what would sound like a metal heart beat rhythm to try and capture some of the essence of a terminator. Some more cool trivia. Can’t wait to share more with T2

You're the first reactor to note the significance of the line, "In a hundred years, who's gonna care." The waitress friend was telling Sarah the ice cream in the pocket was academic, but inadvertently was prognosticating the destructive potential future. Reminded me of Jenny, in "Deep Impact," when her Dad's new wife told her, "life goes on," which made Jenny guffaw.

To be fair Reese wasn't the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree. I could have thought of a dozen better stories to tell the cops that would have been believable.

Well, to be fair, after the two phone book murders, and other murders and wrecks near the same area up to that point when Sarah used the payphone to call the police, they were probably already handling a bunch of calls and such situations right about then. Was blown away by the tiny truck the Terminator ran over was the same model as the one that he blew up in haha.Some other cool facts, Lance Henriksen, who played detective Hal, was originally slated to play the Terminator and Arnold was to play the Kyle Reese character. Cameron wanted Arnold as the Terminator and offered Lance a role as a detective instead. The scene at the end where the Terminator rises out of the pile of flaming debris was a scene from James Camerons dream that inspired the entire story. He woke up and immediately painted the picture.

This movie portrays what is called a 'stable time loop', where the future as it happens, is dictated by the actions of those who traveled back in time. Rese will always be born after the war, travel back in time, father Jon, and die in 1984...

T2: Wall-E fights against Arnold for the supreme Terminator 🤣
