Welcome to the Invokation Akademy Review Session, where I go over all the changes to GITCG from the latest update, and give you my first impressions to get you better prepared for the new metagame.
Version 4.3 has a massive number of changes, so in this first part we'll go over all the balance changes on existing cards, as well as the first impressions on all 20 of the new action cards that are coming as well! This should hopefully give you a bit more direction on just how you'll want to build decks around all the new character cards that are coming. This is perhaps the largest update TCG has ever gotten - with the exception of maybe 3.7, so I hope you're ready for a brand new world of Genius Invokation!!

Thread for errors in the video - Falls & Fortune requires YOUR dice to be 8, not your opponents, so you should be able to play it more reliably than I said. But, that isn't enough I think to change my evaluation on the card and you should probably still avoid it - but it is a little better than I gave it credit. Opera Epiclese (and other cards that reference Equipment generically, like Boar Princess) will also work on equipped talents! If anything though this makes me lower on Opera since now there's another set of cards you will need to worry about your opponent playing that denies the dice.

13:55 just wanted to highlight that Opera Epiclese also work for talent cards! Basically any cards that is attached to your character will trigger the effect :3

@@trottinettesauvage oh totally missed that interaction. I think that might actually make it worse though as now there are even more decks that could invalidate the card... stuff like bennet talent costing 4 too that gets above most 3 costs could be really annoying

@@blepthecat hmm it can be countered with bennett talent card yes, but it also means you can use it as a benny user and be less likely countered right? The card is fun tho but definitely too conditional and is made useless whenever your opponent happens to use as much equipment cards as you or if you cant setup because of bad luck draws

Yeah the cards by themselves are still not powerful but there is enough now in combination that there's a critical mass to make them work. Hard to see it coming without playing it

Just letting you know that you made a mistake about falls and fortune. it's you who needs at least 8 dice, not your opponent, so you'll always be able to at least play it. It's the same restriction as pankration.

Vourukashas Glow sounds really good and the new furina arcane card is very interesting. I was hoping for a nerf for Nilous talent card but theres lots of new content which is nice!

Nilou's actually in a fine spot so I'm glad they didn't decide to nerf her - but yeah will have to see how things land in the new content!

I found that the ultimate nilou weakness is electro fire 1 turn 30 dmg nuke deck. I always win nilou decks by a few hp on the thread

Going back here to say that Artifact deck (Timaeus + Gilded + Lyresong) is so OP and overused right now and it's tiring to see the same rainbow decks all over again lol. Just like BIN deck 2-3 patches ago.

Yeah really turns out I underestimated that set of cards - Opera included there. It's looking to be a difficult package of cards to outvalue when it draws the cards it needs

Mamere sounds good I think, at the very least, you have cards for tuning so you're not forced to waste cards you want to keep, but you can also combo this with, say, sumeru resonance, to shuffle more cards. It also adds mind games. In general, I think that card has potential.

It's still up in the air how her effect works exactly, but she's the one I'm most curious about too. Could either be very good or very bad!

I can understand why you wouldn't want to pass judgment on characters without trying them, but it would still be nice to see a first impression. More importantly though, recapping what the new characters do is worth watching IMO.

Haha I would but in the end that would be too content for me to handle. I also prefer to showcase the character skills in a video, so can't do that until they release. I might have a solution for next version though so we'll see 👀 appreciate the suggestion though for sure

Glad to hear! The amount of updates they come out with now is kinda insane... I wish they would leave more room in between. But take it slow and just focus on one or two decks!

Use a top deck thats all. Do the nilou spam deck its a good starter that can tet you 5 wins in arena.

I feel so dirty after playing Mamere, my first game with it she gave me 2 Varanara's, managed to get a screenshot of 4 Varanara's on the board at the same time. Not only that, it generates so much stuff that it often doesn't even matter if it's good or not. A good pair with her is definetly Varanara since you start overdrawing pretty easily with her and that proccs the landmark condition. I'm still gonna play around abit more, specially now that this video explained some stuff I was confused about.

i'm trying to get back into TCG after a long hiatus and i dont know most of the cards so i keep 2 Mameres in my deck since its overwhelming to try catching up to the cards i missed and its easier to learn what they do in action. In Mamere We Trust

I get asked this a lot - but the problem is card rankings and popular decks change really frequently so it's hard to maintain. I think if you're interested, you can check out my TCG101 on card evaluation - might help give you an idea how to come up with those rankings yourself for individual cards: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7KAdqWEupqZY4E.html As for popular decks, I'd recommend tuning in to some tournament streams sometime - either on the @GITCG channel or @Astra_Carnival

Something I do like about be new arcane legends is the security it gives you. If your opponent isn’t willing to burn 3 cards or the dice that comes with it, it prevents all resonance cards, all instant energy cards and a ton of other useful cards. You can be pretty safe knowing that a surprise burst is a lot less likely. Obviously it depends a lot on your openers strategy and willingness/ability to get rid of the effect, so other cards may be more reliable

Yeah it shuts down a LOT of very good cards - but just be aware that sometimes your opponent can just play around it quite easily, and arcane cards need to have quite a big effect to be justified these days

Hu Tao might be able to trigger PJWS with her skill, which may be useful bc of its cheap cost. Honestly Engulfing lightning may be better

am i the only one getting the feeling that Dehya will become meta in the next patch? she gets a lot of value using the new cards Im already planning on using on using her + Vourukasha + foods + Talent + Four leaf sigil etc to make her really tank NO. the goal isnt immortal, but as a meat shield for the rest of the team, unlike Zhongli who creates huge shields to deal dmg himself she will be more on the support side

The main problem with Vourukasha is you need to be the active character to trigger the draw - so it doesn't work with her skill as well. And generally healing her is not a priority since she gets more value once she drops below 6 HP

I believe gilded dreams can be really good when paired with lyresong in rainbow teams

That's definitely a combo for sure. If Clam hadn't been nerfed and we had 2 good Lyresong targets, it could be promising. As is, I'm still skeptical. Definitely give it a try though!

Once erimite and Fontaine resonance are added we will have double/triple resonance decks which is interesting, also vorukshas on dehya is going to be so broken

Vourukasha specifies active, so it won't work with Dehya taking damage from her skill unfortunately! But yes double resonance will be interesting... some specific sets of characters are really going to be unique for doing that!

Is this specifically for the balance changes? I believe for all the brand new cards I spell out everything the card does on the screen. The balance changes do assume you are keeping up with the game. If you're not as familiar with the original cards then the balance changes probably won't affect you all too much. I will take a note of this though, thanks for the feedback!

Joyous still seems underwhelming despite its 0 cost because there are just arcane cards of better value and sometimes it might not even be used, though there is potential it could be ran with another arcane if people cook something though I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. Overall still a dead arcane card Win and Freedoms buff could see some potential in aggro decks like NEC for cheap swaps as it’s basically a free changing shifts if you order your characters next to each other based on rotation(it might mess you up on the second proc but that is rare). Good changes though and could see it in play. Stone and Contracts has had a very great change as it’s basically an instant Liben in a sense with 3 black dices, perhaps Raiden sc/Zhongli weapon/Hu Tao Yoi/Ganyu freeze might be seen more often? Timaeus seems questionable because of his 6 or higher artifact requirement, in the case do that if you are running 6 it’s likely you’ll get 1 artifact at the start of round already and further more as rounds go on so I don’t see a point really. Would rather run Dunya with Yayoi for more consistent reduction. Wagner on the other hand is just a big no, his requirement of having 3 different types on the team is way too restrictive and makes unseen razor harder to use, only deck I can think of is aggravate with Fischl/Tighnari/Collei,Baizhu/Lisa,Cyno/Yao Yao. Zhang or golden house is much better for weapon engines. Oceanid nerf is well deserved and it’ll decrease the chances of opponents securing 3 summons on board if they are ahead somehow and the George nerf could be called a small buff and nerf hence he will proc more often but it’s more of a nerf. Pyro agent deserved the -1 max hp for his versatility and instant stealth at the start of round which puts him ahead of most characters already. Clam also got a great amount of nerf as it is deserved for making AEC how it is. In short AEC got a huge nerf but I still think it is playable but it’s a deck that is way easier to deal with.

nerf agent is bad because it doesn’t cause damage until its ult, and damage absorption is now small to justify it in the early stages.. the essence of the oceanid is the same, summon 3 mimics on the field, now this is not the case, it just removes characters from the board.

Maybe it's my weapon bias creeping up haha. But if you look at a lot of artifacts they gain a lot more value played early. The first use if Timaeus will be solid, but I think you really need to try and use him a second time to make him worth running which might mean waiting 2 or 3 rounds. Ofc if your deck has a lot of 1 cost artifacts maybe this changes

So it turns out it does draw completely randomly from all possible cards. The problem is 3 of those types go in the same area of the board so you can kinda fill that up. I think she is decent but far from cracked

No doubt we'll see her eventually - in general they are releasing 3 characters at a time so I'd expect her in a patch or two given we're running out of unreleased characters and we just got a bunch of monsters.

We'll see, they are adding a lot more variety so even if bloom is strong you should be seeing it a lot less, which may make it better to play against

Nilou deck can be defeated by a few hp every time with a explosion reaction deck

nilu is easily defeated by large incoming damage on one target or by minions. this is an average team. and always will be.

@@sweetwaifu4655 it is above average but not the best. I say above average because i consistently get the 5 wins needed in arena matching with some losses. With average teams I can only get 4 wins and get booted out with 3 losses.

Why did they nerf oceanid now? it's literally been a year since she got released, why didn't they nerf her in 3.6 or 3.5?

Good questions! She's always been dominant, but specifically the Agent Electrocharged deck she was being used in was way too dominant against other decks competitively. I think for the upcoming Asia Invitational, they really wanted it out of the format otherwise everybody would be playing it would be one less deck people experiment with for the new cards.

@@blepthecatThat's correct but there were many other dominant oceanid decks, fischl and oceanid always destroyed other decks, so why wouldn't they nerf her before many meta decks were made?

So while I don't think it goes in many decks, there's actually some potential in Double Anemo. Anemo Resonance lets you still swap without the penalty, and it makes Sucrose/Jean's swaps even more potent in some cases by making them pay even more to go back to a character. Unfortunately it's probably not good in any other deck - but in that specific one it actually is fun to play

I think it's better to go a bit slow - you'd still want agent to be playable in other decks. He also needs to use stacks to keep his base damage on par with other characters, so it's a balanced out by that
