now you have just added another job to my ever increasing list of things the wants done, another great video Tim and it is nice to have a bit of variety from man glitter, even though it is still the best by far. I am amazed that you have managed to keep fresh content coming through the pandemic, I really appreciate it, it has been keeping me sane.

Clever idea 💡 you inspired us a few week ago to use our garden space better and begin growing our own stuff. We’re doing some basic veggies.. Keep the good working coming.

Looks very nice. On watering system. We‘ve been using the Gardena System for more than 10 years and are still happy. We started off by watering our rooftop bucket garden and continue to use as we moved into house with garden, we also have one string running up to the window flowerboxes. Love the big variety of components and that it’s extendable, as there seems to be something different in our garden every year.

this works really well on site of shed garages etc and is used a lot with strawberries . We DIY'd our on drip pipes and water collection from roof rain water . whole garden uses stored rain water . So much water in the south actually no need for domestic water if you got property space handle your own rain water . Your family a treat to watch ... Keep up the good work 👍

Great job Tim. I have a low pressure set up running off water butt at allotment for greehouse, 12v simple solar set up/battery bank with standard 12v timer running sump pump to header tank, changing "on" time changes volume water which gravity runs through standard salvaged 15mm then down to 4-5mm. Find the inline drippers don't work with low pressure, have open ended pipes spaced to suit watering requirements. Others have commented on commercially available mains timers which may suit your needs at home but I know you'll like to use rainwater.... Am also going down aqua/hydroponic route soon, dilemma if I'm allowed fish at the allotment lol..... Stay safe and sane.....

Great idea with the guttering planters, and am sure an automated drip irrigation will prove useful. I set up a drip system to water my front and rear flower containers. I did zero calculations, and bought lots of drippers of various types that I've since stopped using. My advice would be use eBay, to save money, run the larger supply tubing (13mm) as close to all plants as you can and keep the runs of smaller diameter (4mm) to a minimum. What I hadn't considered when I installed my system was the variable water requirements of each different basket/planter depending on number and type of plants. Also, as the plants got bigger, they obviously need more water.... switching out different rate drippers through the season is a chore, plus not that easy amongst heavily planted baskets. Use strategically placed isolation valves on both the 13mm and 4mm tubing to aid adjusting flow rates where possible. I use the Hozelock sensor plus timer, which had mixed reviews but I've found to be reliable. I have it set to water at sunrise and sunset, and it is working great. I have found a preference for lengths of dripper tube (150 or 300 spacing) over the variable shrubbler style drippers, as they focus more on the soil and less into the air/floor. Lastly, I couldn't believe the expansion in length of the black 13mm in warm sunny weather. I have runs clipped to the house all around to avoid Windows and doorways. It was about 4 degrees celcius when I set mine up, the tubing was rock hard and looked neat. It now looks like bunting...clip often if not running on the ground! Planning is key, if only to save buying bits that don't suit. Although it was fun piecing it together as I went too, albeit more pricey. Plants have looked better than ever, and for veg it will certainly pay dividends. I literally invested to help things survive for our holidays away...which haven't come to bear this year, but still really useful time saver not having to water manually when we are here. Most brands seem cross compatible, although we stuck with Hozelock for the 13mm and 4mm tubing, as seemed reasonable cost. For elbows, tees etc, I have various and they all perform the same. Best of luck.

Thanks for a the info, that’s great!. I’ll do some more research later. Will make sure we clip well when we run round the front of the house. 👍

For watering look up arduino plant watering, dont use a resistive sensor use capacitive and you can get pumps that run 3-5v and dont need a relay, build 3 whole systems for about £30max and program yourself, there are loads of resources to do this. Mine has different % reading resulting in different watering and reading periods so if its damp less water less frequent, dry more water more frequently

Claber Aquadue Duplo Water Timer for the watering system. Use hozelock piping as the claber stuff is very stiff. Worth adding some inline valves so you can control the pressure. There are some really good drippers on amazon that you can turn into sprayers if you undo them a bit.

Great idea, just wondering if you get issues with birds resting on there trying to peck at things, or worse squirrels in the winter making a bit of a mess. When the gutters are near empty, do you have them covered up?

I did this exact things with gutter at my house about 4 years ago & looks great. I also added a automated irrigation system. I’ve used a Gardena Water Control Flex which is really easy system to use. I then drilled a 7-8mm hole in the end cap to allow micro hose to pass through. Within the gutter I connected a 4mm ID soaker hose which goes the length of the gutter & gives a consistent watering across the length. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121860843326 Water pressure/volume can be regulated by an in line valve/tap individually on each gutter via the 4-4.6mm ID micro feeder hose.
