The diamond at Seymour sees about 5-6 trains a week to serve Mitchell, IN where the concrete plant is located. The location in Speed, IN is shutting down and the plant in Mitchell is ramping up.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video from beginning to end. So fortunate to get the vertical drawbridge to come down after the barge pass. I just flew this bridge last week from the Indiana side but because of the wind advisory, I was not able to cross to the other side as you did. This is a great video. Thank you for sharing. 👍 All the best, - Robert

Hey Bruce, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the info on the B&O. I would have never known it also had a line. It's a shame all that history can just be ripped up and disappear. I hope you have a great day!

If I recall correctly, Pennsy installed the drawbridge in 1912. That hunk of iron has been moving up and down non-stop for over 100 years. Also, good call sticking around at the CPL for the train to light it up. Thanks again for putting this up.

It really is incredible how long these bridges last. It never gets old seeing it raise or lower. I do love the CPLs. It was pretty cool to see it light up as the train entered the block. I hope you have a great day!

Yes, they did put in new rail, but before that the L&I had some of the best maintained stick rail you were ever likely to see so I can't really say the new rail is much of an improvement.

Speaking of that East-West track in Seymour, the last I heard it sees one train a week going West through the big tunnel near Tunnelton & Ft. Ritner, IN but that's been probably close to a year ago I heard that.

Hey this video has a little of the bridge and the history of it. It starts around the 18:50 mark. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/psyWiNJ33tyoo2g.html I've got another video in the works with the NS bridge in it, but it's a pretty cloudy and gloomy day. @@nkyrailfan very good video, I remember the round house at the yard . And my brother in law works for CSX goes across the draw bridge on his daily run to pick up cars. Thank you as I grew up in Louisville.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I will definitely say I am very jealous of your brother-in-law. That has to be a great trip across the river. That is a really fun area to Railfan. I want to get a little closer to the yard from the ground to get a better look at it.

this area around the bridge heading east is going to be devopled as part of the riverfornt park and the luoisville loop trail system that run down to the big four bridge that connect indaina and ky that was converted to a bike hike bridge connected the two states. that area was the old B & O yard the feed the the L & N depot over on broadway. the tracks to the west of the bridge that you were standing on iss the L & I interchange with the N S that happen once or twice a month the L & I droping on sunday and N S picking them up on tuesday i use the bike and hike trail along the river servial times a week to bike out to the N S yard in portland

Your drone skills are so smooth. Do you finger pinch or thumb the sticks ???
@nkyrailfan2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Randy. I actually do both, it just depends on the controller. When I fly the Mavic, I usually do just thumbs. When I fly something with a bigger controller, I'll use the finger pinch. I think the finger pinch gives more control, but once you are moving the thumb control is pretty smooth. Everything in these videos is using only thumbs. It sounds like you fly too. Which way do you prefer and why?

Almost had a different kind of video with that pickup towards the end. Don't know why people have to be in such a hurry that they'd take chances like that.
@nkyrailfan2 жыл бұрын
I agree 💯. I just don't get it when people do that. Especially in an area where the trains go by quickly and it wouldn't be long of a wait.

Why doesn't CSX just buy the L&I? Though the CSX ran on it from Louisville to Cincy getting on the old B&O, does CSX run to Indy on the L&I too? And wasn't the L&I a former Conrail line ex PRR? Did CSX not want it when they got there share of Conrail lines?
@nkyrailfan2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't know why CSX didn't purchase the line when it was up for sale as part of Conrail. This is only a guess but maybe since it could route traffic over the LCL sub and the Indianapolis sub, CSX didn't think it was worth it to buy the tracks. The L&I was created just to purchase the line. I agree though, it would make a lot of sense for CSX to own it. Here you can read about the L&I: www.anacostia.com/railroads/lirc

What is the weir used for and the wall ?
@nkyrailfan2 жыл бұрын
I believe it's used to control the level of the river to make sure it remains at a navigable level. I've only seen the area inside the wall full after a heavy rain comes through the Ohio River Valley and the river is at a high level.
