VERY LOUD and Slightly CHAOTIC / FPC Poker Run at Haulover and Key Largo

Haulover gets crushed under the weight of the Florida Powerboat club for their Miami Boat Show Poker Run! About 35 boats depart Haulover Marine Center through a choppy Haulover to join another 35 boats at Grove Harbor Marina and then to meet up at Gilbert's in Key Largo.
Big thank you to my friend Tommy Archer at Archer Exteriors who invited me tom ride along with their offshore team on his Skater 410 LAUGHING GIRAFFE. We hit 141mph in Key Biscayne! Jumping on his powerboat was a last minute addition and next time I will be prepared with better camera angles and audio.
Another highlight was docking up with the Black Diamond fleet in Key Largo. At the docks were SIX CARAT, BLACK DIAMOND and BLACK DIAMOND EXPRESS

I don't see electric boats in anybody's near future. These things need far more energy than any battery can provide for more than 5 minutes.

Electric motors have more power output and less weight than traditional motors and the weight savings could be used to store bigger batteries. Batteries are getting cheaper, the maintenance cost is way lower. Your comment is from 2 years ago, look where electric cars are right now, their performance and range improved so much in the last two years. I'm sure we're seeing electric power boats in the not so far future :)

Not normally a fan of go-fast boats (I’m a fisherman, they scare the fishies away), but I have to admit, that MTI 52 Black Diamond is a right nasty piece of work.

Is that what you had in mind, that walking on the deck of a MTI 52 in August in Florida is "The go to" plan when you are wondering what to do if you own a Black MTI 52 and it happens to be August and you happen to live in Florida ? The cheapest vehicle out there is the helicopter. I love the smell of racing fuel in the morning! Those engines sound bad to the bone.

Think about it for a minute, really. They sit in a boat for hours to pickup some cards to win a poker hand. I imagine it's fun for a bit when you're new to it all, but after awhile it's the same tired old S every poker run, right? None of them look comfortable and certainly doesn't look enjoyable being slammed around in a boat for hours on end. At those speeds it's rough as F and you can't do anything but just sit there and hold on to something. I'd much rather be riding a motorcycle, cruiser or sport bike through some winding roads. These people spend thousands of dollars in fuel cruising at 100mph+ also. The money to fun factor just isn't there, but hey I'm not a millionaire with money to burn like it's nothing either.

They are vent tubes attached to the cavitation plates to help the boat plane. Surface drive stuff.

It has nothing to do with helping the boat plane When you put the boat in gear they suck air to help cavitate the probeller from lugging the motor down too far and killing it

Most definitely has to do with planing that’s why only surface drive boats run them. Zero prop slip but hard to plane. I’m not disagreeing they may also help a lazy motor but that’s not what they were designed for!
