ror ror I had extreme hormonal cystic acne for about 5 years. Everyone has different things that work for them. I tried almost everything. Here’s what worked for me: •STOP using scrubs, acid, homemade diy ANYTHING. Those lemon/apple cider vinegar diy damaged my skin like no other. •Be SO very gentle with your skin. I damaged my skin by picking/scratching at my skin or scrubbing at my face because I was so frustrated and sad, don’t do this. Be kind to your skin. Don’t use face scrubbers or rough towels. •use gentle cleansers. Cerave is a fantastic drugstore skin brand. I use their gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Changed my skin!! •using a gentle toner has been super helpful. It may not be what’s right for you in your acne journey right away but later down the line. I started using a toner later on when I was being more caring to my skin. Sometimes you can go too hard with the toner and damage your skin. •using a product that has either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in it once at the end of the day may work for you along with a gentle cleanser in the morning. Salicylic acid is more effective for me. I like neutrogena’s face washes •use products that have hyaluronic acid. It helped heal my acne scars! Super recommend! You can get it cheap too! •I would NOT recommend taking oral medication. I went on antibiotics (doxycycline) (accutane) and that made it worse. Sometimes this works for some people, it did not work for me. Most people that I know that went on a type of tetracycline had their acne come back after they went on it, became depressed while on it, or didn’t have bad acne in the first place so they were fine. I would try to avoid this as much as possible. •light therapy is BS. •you could choose to use specific birth control to help manage your hormones. I’ve had friends that said that worked. •talk to your doctor! •trying to find what triggers your acne and products that work best is so difficult and you’ll want to give up but keep pushing. •it may be hormonal, stress, diet or some other thing causing your acne. Stress was a huge factor for me and I’ve had to experiment (healthily) with my diet. •a big factor that people rarely consider is that along with your skin, your heart/mind will have to heal too. Having extreme acne caused terrible confidence issues in myself. I had friends/family make upsetting comments or strangers give me dangerous and unsolicited advice for my skin. I still struggle to look in the mirror. A huge part of acne recovery is self love. You may even want to look into counseling! •it will NOT last forever. I promise! I’m a sophomore in college now and I forget that my face used to look like that. I still have mini hormonal breakouts but they never last. •you are loved and you are special. You are so much more than your acne and your face. The people that love you best know that. •imagine your acne on your best friends face and how you think your friend deserves to feel. She deserves to be respected and loved and live a good and successful life. Treat your skin as a friend. Your skin is not ugly. You are not ugly. It’s not your skins fault. It’s not your fault you have acne. It will all be okay and you will be able to look back on this part of your life and be grateful for the empathy it gave you for other people who might be suffering in a similar way. You will build up your confidence and nothing will stand in your way! God bless you in your journey! Feel free to ask me questions, I’d love to chat. -Sam 🌸

Sunfish OutOfWater 10000% Plus, when she eats outside the home like at the whole foods vegan bar, it’s a little tiny soup cup she chooses for her meal (the smallest container available) , doesn’t fill it and never finishes it. And then at home , it’s such a vast quantity that most people couldn’t even eat a quarter of that volume.?? Something doesn’t pass the smell test. She’s lying , either she eats that once and then starves the rest of the week or she splices in several days of food to look like more.

She eats almost exactly how I would eat when I thought I was ‘recovering’ from anorexia, but was in fact losing more weight and physically deteriorating. It’s really scary to think of all the people who will look at this and think it’s healthy. What bugs me is that people think anorexia entails eating literally nothing, when in fact you can eat seemingly large volumes of food and still be restricting, especially if you’re underweight and need to eat SO much to repair the damage on your body. I hope she does receive some help but it’s hard if you’re in that mindset to accept it (ive been there), she deserves better.

Orthorexia isn't recognised in the DSM 5. But, that's due to most psychologists agreeing that it falls under other sub-categories of ED. The term was also coined around just after the time that The DSM 5 was created, so that's also why it's not included. Orthorexia is probably just a symptom of body dysmorphia.

Honestly, I think this is more important for Dr Drays followers to see than it is for Dr Dray herself. Videos most likely won’t help her, as you said - she needs proper medical care, and I hope she gets it. No one deserves to be caught in an ED. Her life could be so much happier ❤️. I do think it’s scary how she showcases her restrictive eating (and frankly obsessive over-exercising), though. Especially her younger audience needs to hear that this isn’t the way to go, and that her level of thinness is not something we aspire to obtain for ourselves, but rather something that sparks concern.

Jason Bolding Her videos are centered around skincare not nutrition. Saying she promotes her illness when all she did was film a “What I Eat In A Day,” already further victimizes a victim of a mental disorder. Exposing ED victims does not help them in the slightest, nor will it open the eyes of the willfully ignorant (those being the audience who choose to ignore it). Talking about it won’t help, and Dr. Dray’s demographic is largely older women. I’m pretty sure they can sense something off about her physical stature. She doesn’t need to be exposed, and this mentality of exposing ED victims is honestly quite disgusting and immoral.

She’s making sure none of it is absorbed by working out, chugging coffee, and taking supplements that casually cause diarrhea. I can’t handle looking or listening to her because she sets me off back into a frame of thinking that led me to a very dark place. She will not change until she wants to. And she’s had this major issue for so long, that unfortunately, the only way she will ever stop at this point is when she passes. That’s the horror of this disorder.

Mary Poppins-100%. Watching Dr. Dray is like watching ‘anorexia porn.’ Her skincare advise is basically innocuous. She uses dermatology as the ostensible reason for her channel-but the real reason she films herself (basically daily) is that she wants to show off to the world her strange diet and exercise habits. I wish KZfaq would cut her-I agree she could be a dangerous influence to some. I also question whether she is a genuinely competent physician; yes, she is smart and cares about her speciality-but, if you are starving yourself, that raises an ethical question as to whether it’s appropriate for you to be seeing patients in clinical settings. I’ve often considered writing to the medical board that oversees physicians in whatever state she practices about her-that perhaps would be a wake up call if she ever loses her medical license for being labeled ‘unfit to work.’

Miss Twizzletoes please don't be offended, I'm not calling you out. I think it's dangerous when we start speculating on other people's competencies based on some unrelated perceived deficiencies or flaws. We Don't know if she is anorexic. We don't know if she has an eating disorder. She has behaved within the bounds of medical ethics on youtube by debunking pseudo science regarding skin care and she does not promote anything that is harmful to anybody. Trying to strike someone off for their weight, as a proxy for their mental state or character, is unconscionable and not justice in anyway. If she does have an eating disorder it no way means that she is an incompetent dermatologist or physician. Your weight has no bearing on your intelligence. Even having a mental illness does not mean you are an incompetent doctor otherwise a great proportion of doctors will lose their license for depression. Again this is not me defending her or having a go at you. I am really defending mentally ill professionals such, as myself, who worked extremely hard to get to where we are now. We are able to compartmentalise and function without letting that contaminate our work, which we take great pride in and it gives us purpose. There is so much stigma against those with mental illness already, please don't perpetuate it. We are trying to get on with our lives just like everyone else, so please be gentle with us, thank you 🙏

@@lydiachong1274 I was just about to say the exact same thing. If professionals weren't allowed to work _just_ on the basis of them having a mental illness, and not, for example, on the reasonable, responsible and ethical assessment of if and how that mental illness affects them doing their job, then so many professionals wouldn't be allowed to work. Mental illness is more common and spread amongst all categories of people than most people realize. This kind of thinking only reinforces stigma, even if it's done with good intentions. Personal bias on the professional's part, a doctor in this case, would be an area that would make more sense to address, since a person's political, religious and other kinds of personal beliefs and opinions affect the way they do their job and treat their patients. I've had doctors do that a lot of times. I find it hard to believe that during a consultation about a cyst or vitiligo, she'd take the time to infiltrate some harmful notions in relation to EDs and the thinking patterns that are affected by them. I honestly find it insulting to imply she's incompetent in her field because of it. And to contemplate writing a letter to the medical board, because maybe being deemed "unfit to work" and possibly fired will be a wake-up call? Ikr, how _dare she_ have an ED, she deserves to lose her job for it ASAP! You shouldn't seek to push people to rock bottom because maybe there they'll realize they need help. People seem to be understanding of mental illnesses as long as they're resolved. God forbid you're currently having a setback, a bad period, or it's a mental disorder that's more like a chronic illness. The person whose comment you addressed seems to have a very self-righteous, "oh my" attitude about this that rubs me the wrong way. Doctors, teachers, and I assume other categories of professionals, they all go through regular mental check-ups. If _just having_ a mental illness as opposed to how and if that illness affects their job will be the basis on which they lose their jobs, people might lie about it or about how serious it is, a lot of people will not seek help in the first place, possibly risking people's safety by not having it monitored, and consequently worsen. Very intelligent people have mental disorders and issues too. Even people like doctors, scientists, engineers, people who are usually very rational, with minds that judge based on facts and figures, can be touched by mental illness and believe and think unreasonable things, but that doesn't mean they're unreasonable people in all areas. Mental illness =/= not smart or capable. I constantly worry about people doubting my ability to work because of my mental illness and it's unfair for me to have to worry about that on top of dealing with my illness. The state or whatever institution deals with this should ensure people do their job well and that whatever individual issues they may have (mental, physical, opinions, mentalities, etc.), they don't interfere with their ability to do their job up to standards and in a safe manner for everyone involved, and that's it.

This breaks my heart. I haven't heard about her until now, but seeing the short clips of her videos here reminded me so much of my old AN. The insane amounts of variety in each meal, while very healthy, must have taken so much thought and effort to put those meals together. It seems like she is making each one of her meals from scratch too, so all of that effort has to be repeated for each meal. Few people have that much dedication to spending that much time in the kitchen for the payoff of only one meal. When I was in the worst parts of my ED and all I could think about was food and the next time I would be eating, I would prepare these ridiculously complicated meals with tons of ingredients like hers just to spend more time around food without actually eating it. I like how you mentioned that the longer a person struggles with an ED, the harder it is to treat. Obviously every person will be different, but I know from experience that I struggled with a clinically diagnosable ED for less than a year before getting it treated, and it took the better part of a year and a half of intensive treatment to leave me at least somewhat symptom-free. I truly hope she gets the support that she needs as soon as possible because living in that mindset is absolutely miserable, and the only things to come out of it are a (possibly) lower BMI and a loss of close relationships. Thank you for shedding some light on this topic. Dr. Greger and other WFPB doctors are scoffing at the idea of orthorexia and how their advice could lead to the perpetuation of these illnesses, and it is very damaging to the people that hear that and decide that what they are doing is okay and that they don't need help for it. Thank you for providing the opposite side of that coin.

Never looked into the validity, but it makes sense. Also SPF in makeup isnt enough. Your foundation may say SPF35 but to get that coverage, you have to use 1/4 of an ounce. Yes please, especially if (like me) you NEVER burn. You still need sunscreen! People think darker skin is immune, but it's not. And early skin cancer is also harder to see on more melanated skin, so although lighter-skinned people are at greater risk of getting skin cancer, they also usually notice skin lesions in the earliest stages when it's easiest to treat and cure. Often it's darker-skinned people who die from it because they didn't see it in the early stages. Everyone should be using sunscreen, even if they don't think they need to.

Also as someone who struggles with Ed and knows people with an and I think the deleting comments combined with everything else is triggering and could make people think it's normal and she's getting all this praise on her appearance but no one is concerned. @@lunasmoonlight714 U.V can point out that Dr Dre looks extremely unhealthy, so that there isn't just a wave of vegans online praising her and her lifestyle. Veganism gets presented as an eating disorder, and not calling it out, makes it worse. As every country in the world increases it's total meat consumption, it renders us few vegans entirely irrelevent. Veganorexia nervosa is leading to a wave of white girls being vegan during their moody years and giving up, and making veganism seem inherently unhealthy in the meantime, so nobody else considers it either. You say that she is obviously sick... but plenty of people with eating disorders are inspired by such looks and then to see her getting nothing but praise, only perpetuates that concept. I think it’s really important to mention we have no idea if she has a medical condition causing her to be underweight. We tend to jump to conclusions using words like “obviously” and “of course”... but it’s not always black and white. For all we know she originally became vegan for her health because she got a scary diagnosis that’s starting to take a more physical toll. I just know how much it hurt when I was getting _told_ how I wasn’t actually eating what I was eating because of how much weight I’d lost, and _told_ I wasn’t actually experiencing the symptoms I was describing, I just had an eating disorder and was lying. And a lot of people including my own mother didn’t believe I had legitimate diagnoses and chronic illnesses until I had two tubes in my gut and a port in my chest. I also dealt with tons of mental health and addiction issues from my preteen years that still definitely live in a little corner of my head-so no... if it’s an eating disorder, this isn’t gonna do anything. As much as we shouldn’t assume- she doesn’t need to prove whatever it is or isn’t, either. It’s not our business, frankly. I think taking a step back so she doesn’t feel overwhelmed or like half the internet is staring at her would be great. We can do that while gently not accusing, not asking for her to share anything she doesn’t want to, and just reminding her she’s loved. Doesn’t matter what it is. If you cared so much you wanted this video made, go tell her she’s a brilliant dermatologist, with a great sense of humor, and is down to earth, and you appreciate her, and she’s incredibly loved.
