@@_morganyuan yup im also a senior from the bay area and got wl/rejected by most of my reaches except one, which I'm so grateful for. its soo nice to finally see a realistic college decision reaction vid instead of one w/ multiple t20 acceptances. what matters most is what we do in college and how we make use of the opportunities given to us, and yeah we'll prob look back and laugh at the unnecessary stress lol. good luck in college!

@_morganyuan Most of, if not all the STEM related majors are difficult to get into. I forgot exactly what you're trying to do, but I remember seeing Biology of some kind. Not sure if you're doing pre-med. I'll put it up-front that going from pre-sciences into a stem major is an uphill battle, but so is all of college. Let me know what the specific major you're pursuing and I can take a deeper look.

@@_morganyuan Buckle in, I've got some important info here: I checked the degree requirements, and Biology is a "capacity constraint" major which is common among stem majors at UW especially Engineering and Computer Science. We have a tool called "Degree Audit" where you can select any major and it will tell you what classes you need to take. **Important note: During Year #1 you would be Pre-Sciences, and then after taking your "intro/pre-requisite" Bio classes, you would then "apply" to the Biology major/program. From the Degree-Audit: "Biology Admission Requirements: Biology programs are capacity-constrained. Applications are accepted quarterly and are due the second Friday of autumn, winter, spring and summer quarters by 11:59pm. Applications received by the system after the quarterly cut off will be considered for the subsequent quarter. Basic Qualifications to apply for Admission: 1) Be a matriculated UW Seattle student, in good standing 2) Completion of Bio 180, 200, 220 with a minimum 2.0 grade in each course. This is basically Intro to Bio #1, #2, #3 or in other words "The Biology Series" 3) 2.5 cumulative GPA in all coursework applied to the major 4) Personal Statement/Short answer admissions questions Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the Biology major. ------ You may think, "oh wow, ONLY a minimum of a 2.0 in the Bio Series and for all related classes a cumulative grade of a 2.5? That's so low." Let me say, it's like that for a reason. It's not like high school. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, I'm just preparing you for something that I ran into and had a very hard time with myself. All the intro series at UW are very, very hard. The first year is hard for everyone, which is why the best thing you can do is have people in your corner that you can rely on and share the challenge with. I know this is a lot. yes ofc! my gpa was honestly way lower compared to my friends but i know UW LOVES to see that by senior year you're taking an AP language as well as leadership weather that be in ASB or club president etc. I was freshman class pres, sophomore class president, junior class secretary, and now ASB president. i also volunteer within the field i want to go into (medicine), do competitive dance, and compete in HOSA and Science Olympiad. UW has this long personal statement which you can just use your common app essay - if you'd like a video of me reading mine, i'm happy to do that! i also have a video coming up talking about my teacher letter of recs bc that def plays a huge role for UW. let me know!!

hi! morgan wanted me to respond hahahha but yes i am that friend!! i am so grateful to have gotten in but also it was a complete surprise to me and my family. i have pretty average stats, i also got 2 B’s in high school so i think they took my application very holistically which i’m so thankful for.

ooh good question my gpa is lowk bad due to my lower grades in AP classes which is prob what brought me down this app season + i went test optional. extracurricular wise, if you want to go to UW, i def think they like to see leadership! i was freshman president, sophomore president, junior class secretary, and now I'm currently ASB president! I also am part of HOSA, Science Olympiad, and volunteer at my local hospital. outside of school, i do dance and i used to do lacrosse and cross country soph year. over the summer i did a dermatology internship, research, had a job, and took college classes. overall, just be passionate abt what you do because that's all that really matters in the long run. good luck!! i think the biggest mistake for me was spreading myself out to thin esp my soph year, causing my low grades in AP classes. lmk if you have any questions!!

@@_morganyuan Please list your UW and W gpa and AP classes/scores...it really helps parents and kids watching these videos. Also general geography. A valedictorian with 1500 and 3.9 UW from Fresno will have a different chance than someone with the same scores from orange county. Edit. and...financials...are you from washington state? so you're paying in state tuition?
