Hey Subi performance? Where are you located? Can you do a lift system and performance enhancement to my 2020 outback w/the 2.4 turbo motor? Damnit! Nevermind. I just saw you are located in Germany.

Very detailed and systematic. I loved the way he torqued the bolts down with several steps and how he checks the gaps with feeler gauge. Very seldom do I see such good job even at the dealerships or performance workshop in our country. Great job Subi Performance!

That torque sequence is crazy.
@yjmsrv
@yjmsrv 8 ай бұрын
Yeah I wondered about that too then looked it up: 1. Apply a coat of engine oil to washers and bolt threads (or his ARP Torque Lube) 2. Tighten all bolts to 29N*m (22ft-lb) in alphabetical sequence. Then tighten all bolts to 69N*m (51ft-lb) in alphabetical sequence. 3. Back off all bolts by 180deg first; back them off by 180deg again. 4. Tighten the bolts (A) and (B) to 34 N*m (25ft-lb).

Just question from a newbie, why do you tighten and then loosen and the finally tighten the head bolts again? Is it to crush the new gasket?
@LL-ck4ei
@LL-ck4ei 5 жыл бұрын
Yes... or I think the botls gets longer.🤷‍♂️
@brencostigan
@brencostigan 2 жыл бұрын
I wondered that myself. The gold standard for bolt tightening is to use hydraulic bolt stretching to bring the bolt to its designed tensile pre-load (which is below the elastic limit of the bolt) and then just nip-up the nuts to hold the bolt in that state. All bolt torquing techniques are merely a coarse proxy to achieve that same outcome by inferred tensile load due to the applied torque. Friction in the interface between the nut and bolt then do their best to screw this up which is why he applied a thread lubricant. You can think of the bolts as just being really stiff springs. If you crush and then relax the load on the head gasket I don’t understand the benefit. Maybe an engine build specialist can shed some light on it.
