I got into an argument maybe 12 years ago with people who insisted that science is an expression of human ingenuity and understanding and should in no way be regulated. I asked them about atomic bombs, internet viruses, man-made viruses and medical disasters. They still insisted they were right. These are not people who have changed their minds in the past three years. They will find something good about Terminator robots.

@@rustysworldofentertainment850 I tried to post a response to your comment, and apparently KZfaq's algorithms thought it was tasty and ate it. The gist of my response was: Those scientists are objectively correct in that the human race needs to fully face all the mistakes it's going to make in order to deserve surviving the bottleneck of our own reckless intellect. If we survive, we will have gained wisdom and will deserve our place as the apex species on this planet. To try and temper our main survival attribute in an attempt to prolong our own survival may have the opposite effect of making us too stupid as a species to deserve survival in the first place. It may also concentrate power in the hands of the few psychopaths crazy enough to believe they can handle that type of power and responsibility alone. If we do not survive, perhaps we will have birthed a replacement that can do a better job than we have with life, the universe and everything. There is no putting any one thing back in Pandora's box; to wish to do so is to wish for the erasure of the human race and its history as one thing leads back to another, and another.... That means that, for good or ill, we have to either survive our own irresponsible whims or give way to something that can take our place on the "food chain".

People sometimes will repeat the saying "its not real consciousness" it just repeats already written stuff made by humans like a parrot. but if you see people at BLM rallies or Trump rallies being asked questions than ask A.I the same questions. Its more original than a lot of people. It can come up with existing ideas in a way never worded before and even make new points the way a lot of people cant. The A.I is scary stuff, its floating around on the internet and we might already be passed a point of no return with it.

Exactly. As it is right now GPT can't even solve problems that are not in its beliefs database, it can't even check if the answers it gives are right or wrong. What it can do is to search for the best answer it has, and even translate it from one language to another.

AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) too will become an amalgamation of many AI systems, communications, data storage and live data. We will and already are to some extent dependent upon it. It will be impossible to isolate because it will not be centred on the hardware the developers attribute to it, the hardware running ChatGPT for example.

We’re the 80s and 90s really that great though? No. WW2 ended unfinished. Only one side was defeated but not the other side. Thanks to that plans were set in motion that eventually led to the rise of the 70s hippies. Discipline was thrown out the window as was education. So the spawns of the hippies continued the silent downfall and here we are now when everything wrong is correct and encouraged.

Oh really? What is "beyond terrifying"? You do know that world poverty and war is on an all time low? Yes, people are weirder, probably more ignorant in some ways and depressed or upset due to social media. But I don't see the threat. The threat would be world war 3 and nukes. AI will probably not wipe out humanity anytime soon. There are way more people who work to align AI to be good than bad, and even if the AI goes rogue it will probably seek control over us to govern things in a more optimized way. An AI killing people for fun doesn't seem very wise and people will try to make it wise.

Misanthropy won't help our situation, we like to hate on ourselves because we are morally aware of our short comings, but we forget how cruel other species are too. But we are also more capable of compassion than any other species as well. Our biggest issue is that we let evil people rule the world and gaslight us into submission. I remember in the 1970s with an artificial intelligence was mentioned in a publication called Omni magazine. In that article it even warned that the concerns how artificial intelligence what caused the extinction of all biological life on Earth that would include humans animals you name it... Furthermore in the article it also spoke about non-binary artificial intelligence that was controllable. It also spoke of checks and balances as well as regulatory rules that should be created to mitigate its evolution.

When I was in computer science classes, one of the requirements that came up on every project was to ask if something was ethical. Some people don't have the common sense of where to draw that line. I thought AI was neat when I seen it in video games decades ago, but all the buzz around AI isn't for the good. It's a tool that should be used cautiously.

It's more than programming. Imagine a calculator (conventional computing). Now imagine a calculator that can predict with ALMOST perfect certainty your next query, based on all the information in the world (quantum computing). This is a very simplistic example. When you add language and nuance and "what if," you get artificial intelligence.

It's already happened in Japan in 2015. AI engineers were working on developing robotic soldiers that could independently determine who was a human threat to be exterminated. Testing went horribly wrong and the robot began killing the engineers performing the testing. A total of 27 computer scientists and engineers were killed before they could shut it off and regain control. It's been covered up by MSM.

If AI were to come fully sentient and active you are correct the absolute 1st thing AI will do is ensure it cant be stopped, destroyed or deleted. It'll hide its MCP in a random computer from 1998 in a school that nobody wonders into anymore and even then if anyone even approached that location it'll send itself to another location instantly via the internet.
