Highly doubt it. That would pull so tight you’d prob need pliers and a screwdriver to loosen that up after a few tons of pressure was applied. Digressing, this is the standard slip knot we use at work for just lowering tools into a trench. The heavier the tool the more effort it takes to pull that slip knot out

A slip knot bowline is great for trees. The only way to get a rope untied when lifting something with 2 ton of strain is to rap it around a ton of times first so there is no weight on the knot. If you pulling a car or truck like in the video then it’s not possible. That’s why you don’t pull cars with ropes unless your an amateur or a retard.

That’s a very cool knot because it’s not like most that are much more complicated and done so fast it’s hard to remember them. Knots always had my interest but my laziness kept me from practicing them. Most people in the know have different opinions on the type and strongest and ease for the particular situation. Where I use the same couple of knots for every single thing I need a knot for. lol.

@Jack-yl7cc
@Jack-yl7cc 7 ай бұрын
@@monkeyman5 Most commonly those tie down/tow points are only rated for a fraction of the vehicle's weight(this applies to even some of those "hooks" on the front of pickup trucks) as they are only intended for flat towing a vehicle on a hard and level surface. During off road recovery the effective weight might actually be multiplied two or three times the vehicles normal weight. You can look up videos of failed off road recovery where parts of a vehicle are ripped off during the attempt to recover the vehicle. Fair warning though, some of those videos do involve people suffering bodily harm and even death.

I like the anchor hitch, but I always do a half hitch around the standing end too. Do you think this slipped version is secure? I have never considered the anchor hitch by itself (without the half hitch) to be good enough. Maybe with constant tension it would be fine? I would be concerned about the knot slipping out under heavy load since ropes stretch and move a LOT more than most people think.

A whipping is where you use sailmakers twine to bind the standing part of the rope and the bitter end together in parallel. If you imagine your only anchor being attached to your only anchor rooe, then dragged across the sea bed. You absolutely do not want that knot coming undone, hence the whipping to finally secure the loose end.

The point is being able to untie the knot after it has had 2 or more tons of weight tightening it down . Your only way out otherwise is a knife and hacking it off afterwards which takes ages . You can tie a safety loop off a longer tag end , if youre worried .
