Good tip! Within the past couple years (afaik), people have been discontinuing the use of the word “master” in contexts like this, so this change makes sense

Hi Jennifer! When not in present mode, you can still access links. I usually embed links over images or text. When you click on the image or text where the link is embedded, a box should appear with the full link in it. Click the link in the box and it will take you where you want to go.

This is a terrific tutorial! I hope to create a digital notebook to share with my colleagues and all of our students. @Vestals21stCenturyClassroom
@Vestals21stCenturyClassroom 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris! Thanks for watching. Yes, Google Slides are easy to share as an assignment in Google Classroom. When you create an assignment, you can upload directly from your Google Drive. I haven't used Canvas but all the LMS that have worked in allow you to upload from a Google Drive, so I am assuming that one allows it too. If not, you can provide a link in Canvas to the slideshow. Here is a video from our channel that shows how to share links to Google resources with students: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbZjmrheyrapd6s.html

Hi Alissa! Thanks for watching and commenting. You cannot share directly from your Google Drive with students who do not have a Google account but you can still share the resource. You will just copy/paste the link for the resources somewhere the student can access such as through an email or on the LMS that you are using. In case you are unfamiliar, I have a video about the proper way to share links for Google resources so that all of your students have their own copy. You can find that video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbZjmrheyrapd6s.html

Hi! Thanks for watching. Your links should work in both both present and edit mode. When in editing, you or students should just click on the text or image where you have embedded the link. Then, the link should appear below the image or text and you will click on that. Sorry I cannot offer more assistance. This is such great information. Question: I am using a template that someone else created. I have of course edited the text to fit my needs and I'm hoping that there is a way that I can make it where my text is uneditable. Sort of like creating a "new" master from the template. Is this possible?
@Vestals21stCenturyClassroom

Question. I would be using Google Classroom. Once you Give every student a Copy can student add pages to it for example if they are taking notes could they add another page into the Google Slide Presentation that you shared with them? Or do you basically have to put in your Google Slide all the pages that you are going to use that year? Would the solution be to add say 50 blank pages so students can insert their notes and in class questions. Hope this makes sense.

Hi Barbara! Thanks for watching. If you want two pages with the spiral down the middle, you will need to change the slide size. I recommend using a horizontal layout. If you can unfamiliar, you can learn how to change your Google Slide size in this video that I made: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtSkZKuGnMixY40.html Next, you will need to find an image of the spirals and add it to the center of the slide (similar to what I did when I added the notebook cover to the front slide. Then, you can create two pages on each half of the slide. Keep in mind that when working in Google Slides, all of your slides must be the same size. It will not allow you to create different sized slides in the same presentation. I hope this is helpful!

@@Vestals21stCenturyClassroom yes this is helpful. If you ever have time in the future can you create one with a two-page spread this is also confusing to me. I just want a place to store my recipes and other notes. Will I be able to edit these pages?

I love the tabs in the digital notebook but I have a question. Once the students have received his/her notebook, can I still add pages to it and they will receive it?

Hi Karen! Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, if you update the digital notebooks, you will need to share a new copy with your students to ensure they all receive the updated pages.

I followed up to linking slides, then I couldn't get the link inserted on the tab to transfer to the presentation and the text box and shape remained separate. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Remind me again why we just don't put digital notebook on docs.....

Hi! Thanks for watching. It is hard for me to help troubleshoot unless I can see exactly what you are doing. I recommend just taking it step by step. Pause the video and go back to rewatch certain parts as needed. I know it can be a bit tricky the first time you can create a digital notebook, but you got this!

How do I push out updates to my student during the year?
@Vestals21stCenturyClassroom
@Vestals21stCenturyClassroom 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! I usually push out everything to students at one time because the process of editing the notebooks so that all the students can receive the edits is quite complicated at the time with a lot of steps involved. I recently tried using a Slides Add On to push updates but it was glitchy and did not work well. I am hoping Google makes some updates that will make this easier in the future.

Is it possible to add pages once you share with students?

Hi Leonor! I recommend sharing all of the pages at once. There is a way to push out more pages later but it is very complicated. I am hoping Google will roll out some features that will make this easier in the future.

Okay this might be a silly question. I’m not a teacher yet how does each child have their own notebook? If you give them all the same link won’t it save each child’s work on the same project?

Hi Shannon! That is a great question. When sharing any Google Slides presentation with students, you want to share a copy of the presentation so that each student has their own personal copy. We have another video on our channel that shows how to share a copy of a Google Slides presentation. You can find it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbZjmrheyrapd6s.html

When I clicked on the different tabs after adding blank pages it does NOT go to the correct section of the notebook. I am very disappointed and frustrated. No matter how hard I try tech never seems to work for me or at least not the first, second, or third time. :( I guess Google forgot. Just my dumb luck.

Hi Judi! Thanks for watching and commenting. I am sorry to hear you are having trouble linking your tabs. I know technology can be frustrating at times, but don't give up! I know you can get it! I explain how to link your tabs starting at 11:54 of this video. When I am watching video tutorials, I always find it helpful to work through what it is while the video is going. Then, I can pause and rewind the video if I can stuck. You got this, Judi!
