My wife was diagnosed with chronic vestibular neuritis 10 plus years ago and is still suffering. She only found out she had celiac disease last year. No doctor or specialist has ever even mentioned gluten ataxia to her. This actually makes so much sense. We will be bringing this up during her next examination. I will follow this with an update. Thank you so much!

Nine years for me. Double vision and unsteadiness I still deal with. My eye doc said 6th nerve damage from possible diabetes. Neurologist said migraine. I finally realize it is VESTIBULAR NEURITIS DYSFUNCTION. Now my new eye doc wants to use prisms on my glasses...

I got terrible vertigo that made me sick and landed me in the hospital after my second Covid vaccine shot. It's been a month and I'm still unsteady on my feet. The room doesn't spin however sudden moves make me dizzy. I continue to work and play in the garden and just power through the physical moves. I fatigue easily now due to the extra effort staying steady. Hope this gets better soon. Seeing a neurologist next week.

I too developed severe vertigo and headaches following my 2nd covid vaccine. I went to the ER 3 times because of severe dizziness, nausea and vomiting. 2 months later, I’m still quite symptomatic with constant dizziness and nausea. I have trouble walking without help. An ENT finally diagnosed with vestibular neuritis. I’m currently getting vestibular therapy 2x a week to help me walk. Also placed on anti viral and steroids. Hoping to get better soon. I wish everyone the best. Very scary initially 😦

I’ve had severe ataxia for the last three years. This began with a bad episode of vertigo which I received some therapy for it but even as the vertigo let up I’m left with this balance issue. When walking I veer to the left until I hit a wall. For this reason I need a walker when outdoors or shopping. I have seen a neurologist and had an MRI which was normal. He suggested that I had vestibular neuritis due to a viral infection. Apparently nothing can be done for this condition which of late is also causing loss of hearing and pressure in the ears. I will see a ENT doctor but I don’t have much hope he will be able to help. This has had an impact on my daily life since any added stress makes it worse. My life is more restricted now and I was an active senior until this happened. Just looking at the comments here makes me aware of how many others are experiencing this in their lives.

I have had VN for 8 months. It’s awful. The anxiety is awful. I’ve been fit and heathy all my life. In April I had dizziness and sickness. Have had CT and MRI scans. Seen an ENT, cardiologist and neurologist. Various blood tests. Have a Vestibular Physiotherapist. I’m so much better I was in the summer. It’s soil destroying. I was dizzy for 8 weeks. Then with anxiety I had panic attacks. I had a bad virus prior to this. Thanks doctor! Fan from 🇬🇧

What a great informative video. The woman is asking the questions that a patient like myself would ask which is great and I love the way they’re being answered. I like how you said that is a heavy feeling which I coined as being cloaked. Throughout the day, I’m dizzy, but then there are times when I feel this heavy, feeling like there’s a cloak being thrown over top of my head. Anyhow, it sounds silly but I’m gonna be taking a Journal of when I’m being cloaked so I can understand it better. I’ve read that antihistamine and other anti-vertigo medication’s can hinder the body from healing. Is this true?

thank you so much for this clear, presentation with so much information. I have just had the worst vestibular neuropathy. It was a nightmare, impossible to understand without experiencing it. There is spinning around you 24/7. However, although the acute 4 months is gone, I still have some instances of vertigo. I still do not feel normal, always some fogginess, and neural dysfunction. I also think I have developed PTSD, since when I wake up, and attempt to rise out of the bed, I become terrified that the spinning of the room will begin. In this presentation, it was also very insightful, to hear the relationship between neuropathy, and gluten sensitivity in relationship to vestibular neuropathy.

Hello Dr. I am writing this out of desperation. Back early November 2021 I noticed a slide muffled sensation in my hearing. ( both ears) nothing major. I thought I was coming down with a cold. But never had a cold. Then a couple weeks after I started developing dizziness ( derealization/depersonalization) feeling. Never vertigo. No spinning around feeling. Went to the ER did MRI MRA, CT scan, and blood work. All test came back normal. Just a Left Sphenoid sinusitis. I went home with 10 days of Amoxicillin and Flonase. Went to an ENT and did a hearing test and VNG a week later. They said my hearing in normal for my age, I’m 48 years old. Slide decrease in lower tones in my left ear, but normal they said. But the found that I have bilateral Vestibulapathy and Caloric weakness. I that time I had a lot a tinnitus on my left ear I think. My symptoms got worse from that point on. Then they started to get a bit better, not much but better. My tinnitus is almost gone, the dizziness comes and go but my ear fullness still there. There are days that my ears feel a bit better ( less clogged ) and days they feel more clogged. But that muffled sensation has never gone away. I’ve being to several doctors with not much answers. My last ENT said I do not have Menier’s disease, which is great news but I still don’t know what I have. What is weird is when I eat and chew a lot, specially hard foods my ears get more clogged. I am thinking that I have Vestibular neuritis but I have problems with my hearing so I am thinking Labyrinthitis. What do you think? I am seeing a new ENT in a couple weeks. Any questions you suggest I can ask the doctor? Please help, I really really need it. Thank you in advance. Cesar M.

Ive been to neurologist, chiropractors, acupuncture and so many different specialist and I've taken pt. I feel a weird feeling on my left side of face and head and get dizzy constantly. A neurotologist should confirm what I have right? According to my ent doctor they specialize more in inner ear conditions. What do you think?

vestibular neuritis (now called acute unilateral vestibulopathy) is one of the major causes of acute vestibular syndrome (acute onset of prolonged vertigo, imbalance, and N/V. HINTS-plus exam can diagnose better than MRI in first 24-36 hours. steroids improve outcome anti-viral drugs do not help patients should not receive meds like meclizine for more than a few day vestibular rehab very important to prevent development of persistent postural positional dizziness. better information - Vestibular Research Journal YT presentations

Hi, I went on a road trip back in may (6 months ago) and something happened that drastically changed my life. I think it was due to the pressure changes, the only way I can make the connection is going through the mountains because after that is when my world went upside down. The first episode I had I could barely keep my balance or talk or think right, I got very cold and shaky and I felt like I was walking on a trampoline. When I got back home from the road trip my symptoms got so much worse, I have had brain fog and derealization non stop without a break. Some days are better than others but it’s always there. Cognitive issues as well. I also have ringing in my ears 24/7, extreme fatigue, heart palpitations, and I feel nauseous all the time like I could faint at any moment. My eyes have also never been the same, my vision is always sort of skewed like I’m not seeing the world the way I used to. I have had moments where I lose hearing for a few seconds with a low monotone sound and then it comes back, it’s happened about 3 times. I don’t get room spinning sensations but I do feel movement when there is none sometimes. Is it possible I could have gotten vestibular damage? I have always had problems with my ears so that’s why I think this. Can atmospheric pressure cause vestibular disorders? This does not feel temporary

Neurologists have noted a variety of cognitive effects caused by V.N.. It is understood that Medicine, as a scientific community is.. a bit of a "slow-moving ship" in that Outliers (either in the form of new data sets, diagnoses, and modalities; or in the form of being a proponent of same) run a risk of receiving push-back or penalty from established protocols within the medical landscape. While the need to establish validity of outcomes (to prevent misdiagnoses; or the adoption of unproven treatments of a spurious pathology) is of paramount importance, I cannot overstate the significance and value of integrating novel results and protocols in a timely manner. There is much data, compiled clinically AND anecdotally, over DECADES, regarding a panoply of cognitive alterations related to Vestibular Neuronitis (including, but not limited-to changes in speech-processes [stuttering, aphasia], memory-process alterations [short-term recall]), with clinically-documented alterations in brain construct [shrinking of the hypothalamus]. These changes are noteworthy, and deserve focused research.

I've got nystagmus and very heavy eye flutters on both eyes, usually upper and lower eyelids. I have also been diagnosed with POTS Syndrome/general 'dysautonomia' aka autonomic dysfunction that nobody knows what to do about. Can autonomic issues or POTS result from a balance disorder? My VNG was quite abnormal and also revealed Hippus. The faster the movements, the more deviation I had. I was diagnosed by a functional neurologist who my MD docs don't believe, but he has so far given me more info about my body malfunctions than they have and they seem jealous. I litearlly can't work because I'm so lightheaded. Blood rushes to my feet/legs from the POTS. The eye fluttering 24/7 and the lightheadedness and 'tight' feeling on each side of my head near the temples, side of the head and also down the neck on both sides is very irritating daily. My whole body does weird/jumpy stuff and the functional neurologist felt that my frontal lobe is overwhelmed with unfiltered information and that the middle brain is malfunctioning causing the nystagmus. They try to retrain the brain to not malfunction, essentially..which the MD docs don't agree with. They'd rather give me meds that don't work for the rest of my life.

And for years sometimes when I get up all of sudden I feel like my eyes get blacked out all of sudden but that happen only rarely. But this dizziness been happening for few days now mi thought it was bc lack of sleep but I've been sleeping well for past few days. What would I do? Do I have this ? . Also had cold for few weeks before a week ago and have dry cough but those are getting better . Also few weeks ago when ever I move my head,I felt like something was moving in my left year like there was water inside but there wasn't, it doesn't feel like that now but is this something related to ear balance?

Hello doctor, I got the diagnosis vestibulaire neuritis since 3 weeks. I wonder, do you see a lot of emotional problems? Since my start with acute vertigo, I feel very easily and quickly sensory overloaded. I tried to work, because I did not feel as dizzy anymore after two weeks. But my head feels so exhausted, I could not take in any information, no visuals, nothing. I went home and could only lay in my bed and cry. I feel so overly sensitive. I hope this goes away. I am normally very active, social. I do not feel like myself at all, it's very intense for me. First I could also not watch TV, or use my phone. But I noticed I am able to again, so I guess I'm making some progress. I did not get steroids since I have type one diabetes. I did get antibiotics. I try to walk everyday and do house chores to keep a little active. Also I have to graduate in 4 months, I still hope I can make that.

Hi! I've got Neuritis 1 month after being sicking Covid-19. Noise in the right ear, vertigo (few times), etc. I went to the doctors immediately and they prescribed me Prednisolone. Now is the 10th day of treatment with no release. Doctors keep saying that Prednisolone is the only remedy that could help on this step. Is this true? I worry that if it has an infectious reason, I need some antiviral treatment. But it's not happening now. Could you give me any advice, please?

Dr. Don't know how to help because they don't know what causes it or how to treat it they just give you a general idea what it could be and hopes it goes away. I am 99% healed and I am 1yr and 4 months since my episode.

Hello Dr. I am a dentist by profession. I got vestibulare neuritis 6 months ago. Still dealing with the issues. Can u please let me know How much time does it take to get complete compensation from V.N?

I believe most people will compensate within one year. Sorry, I'm just now seeing your comment but if you are still having symptoms this may be something we can look at together. Wishing you the best.

@@gatesbrainhealth2639 i am still having symptoms. I got normal results in calorics, VEMP, and saccade test. All the VNG tests are normal. I am unsure why i am still dealing with symptoms. Its been 11 months since the onset.

@@simransingh89 The literature documents that there are typically functional processing issues in the parietal insular area of the brain when vestibular neuronitis patients do not compensate. Though these issues are not showing up on the VNG, you may need someone with functional neurological training to review that information and do an assessment on you as often times "normal" VNG's are subject to interpretation.

@gatesbrainhealth2639
@gatesbrainhealth2639 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Natasha, most people with vestibular neuritis do get better in terms of the vertigo, in fact the vast majority. However, 30-50% may have chronic dizziness after the vertigo resolves.
