That was *shocking* to see such an immense area of swelling and redness on Scotty. What a relief to see Scotty going through his training exercises with enthusiasm, and even giving Lisa kisses to thank her for saving his life.

Shepherds are awful for skin infections, and I say that having had three, including a long haired one currently. They can suddenly develop a, itchy, painful, weeping sore overnight for seemingly no reason at all. There's an old adage for vet students - if you're asked to say a dog breed in which a disease occurs, but don't know, just say German Shepherd. That's especially true in allergies and skin issues. My current boy has an antibacterial shampoo that sits on the shelf waiting for his next hot spot so that I can get it shaved, cleaned and dried as soon as I notice itching and redness to hopefully prevent a full blown infection. It happens so often that I usually spot it before there's even visibly broken skin.

It's always good to see a cop actually take care of the canine they're assigned, especially knowing 40% of canine unit deaths are caused by heatstroke due to lack of care- this mans is honorable in my book (especially because it was the dog acting lethargic that caused him to get it to the vet) Making sure your friends okay and getting them medical treatment and such is very important in my book, good work

@@keaponlaffin6737 Honestly I think canine units are essential but only for specific instances, like drug or bomb sniffing/tracking a lost person's. Or even as a trained emotional support animal during crisies with children involved. Just not like.. chasing an armed individual or things like that. Its inhumane to ask a literal dog to put their life on the line for these police members especially with how little they police are trained vs how well the dogs are trained.

@@mammontustado9680 While %40 is high, keep in mind how very few canines actually die in the line of duty (and many cops pull them out if they think there is a chance they could get badly hurt). Most cops actually love their canines and adopt them once the dogs get too old and have to retire. In america you have to apply to be q canine officer, and the people they pick are often the people that volunteer to train and spend time with them before they are canine officers. At least that was from the people I know, maybe it's different in other parts.

Fever is a sign of infection and she gave him antibiotics and antiinflamatiories. For high fever they always give them an injection to lower the fever, so most cases the fever would just go down and the infection would get better. In this case he needed strong antibiotics, but her inicial reaction was right for most cases. Fever and infections are very common and they usually get better after what she did, so unless he already was 41 or more degrees there was no reason to hospitalize for observation.

I recently lost my German shepherd and am devastated. I know our dogs are special to us, but German shepherds are really a one person dog (although they will love the whole family, just not as much) and that bond is unbreakable. They are so in tune to you, it’s more like a spiritual connection. So when they’re also working for you which makes them really happy, it takes your bond to another level. My girl was a pet, but she was so protective and was basically like an emotional support dog for me, she helped me through some rough times. There are no words to describe this breed at all. ❤❤❤❤❤

I first appreciate that the Veterinary Hospital has all the modern and advanced equipments of surgery for animals. Secondly, the lady veterinary doctor has treated the dog with great concern, love and kindness. Unfortunately, in India, there is a great shortage of well equipped Veterinary Hospitals and expert veterinary doctors and most of them do not treat the dogs with love and kindness as they are more concerned with the money. So this is the difference, on one hand the concerned person is worried about the ill health of his dog and the Veterinary doctor is concerned about money making of his treatment. This video is a lesson for those Veterinary Doctors who are more focused towards money than giving proper treatment to the dogs with human values.

These comments are not it. “Dogs shouldn’t be on the police force” “police treat dogs badly”. Y’all- dogs are used to detect drugs, chase down criminals/drug addicts. Afterwards, the dogs are awarded and given lots of love. As told my father whom was a police officer, all police dogs are taken care of as much as humans are. Clearly none of y’all have never owned a dog nor even been on the police force. Edit: or even been in Australia, half of these comments are from America😐so, I’m not even surprised.

I felt for him when he said "I do feel really bad" because it is how every pet owner feels whenever a pet is sick or injured. No matter how early you catch on and seek medical treatment, there's always that bit of guilt of "How did I not notice sooner?? I'm with them every day! :( "

So strange that I just went through similar situation myself. Had a UTI that didn't get better with first antibiotic and turned into kidney infection. Had to stay in hospital and get lots of fluids and strong antibiotics. I also had a very high fever and my heart rate was dangerously low. On the med now thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses. So glad Scottie is also doing better. God bless and stay safe.

The walk away from a seriously ill dog...when it is touch n go, is the absolute worst. You know they know you are leaving. The amount of times I've done this and been terrified of the outcome so totally get this police officer's fear. Thankfully there are so many outstanding vets out there...who manage to pull them through.
