Today on Pittie Nation, watch how Bones became the most important person in his dad's life - and the beautiful way his dad's helping him now. As a veteran myself and a dog lover, I'm so totally into this story. I've been struggling with issues myself...I've also studied a lot about pit bulls and I'm completely convinced that these are absolutely some of the most amazing dogs God ever created. They, just like us, only need love to truly flourish.

I know its difficult to accept that our pets will share only a small portion of our human existence with us. But, at least for me, that I why we need to make the most of the time and love our companions have with us. I know the pain of losing a beloved pet--many, many times over. But it's not disloyal to your lost pet to open your heart to another.

After reading this with tears in my eyes, I wish the USA would help veterans like this one, who had more love and compassion for this animal. They saved each other. No veteran should have to go w/o help, either from a rescue animal and/or the government. He served, now it's time for we humans to save them, with or without service dogs. Please believe in them who served FOR US!

That is a true companionship between animals and their owners. When you adopt or rescue animals such as cats or dogs they will always be by your side, even if it takes a while for them to trust you but you can't give up. They won't give up on you, you can't give up on them

My Pitbulls are my world, I have a terminal illness and they make me smile everyday regardless of how much pain I’m experiencing. They are just the most lovable dogs in the world. I will miss them dearly, but I’ve made arrangements for them so they will be cared for when I’m gone. They’re my only family and I wouldn’t want it any other way if it meant I couldn’t have my dogs. One of God’s greatest gifts to mankind are Dogs 👼🏻🙏🏻❤️. Everyone in their life should experience the love from one of these animals. I can’t explain how Wonderful it is to see them everyday and know that they love you unconditionally....I Love My Pitbulls more than any person that has ever been in my life. ❤️🙏🏻. I totally can relate. I have have had dogs all of my life. When I became an adult, I bought some from breeders, etc. I have PTSD from childhood trauma. Then I rescued my first husky and it changed my life. I don't drink any more, never really did drugs other than psychiatric medication. But this husky was EVERYTHING to me. She still is. She taught me all about the joy or rescue and how to laugh all the time. I still have her, but our days are becoming shorter. She's older (13) and slowing down. It will be the hardest thing that I'm ever gonna have to do, when I have to say goodbye. But I have 3 others that will help me through it, and there will be others that need to be rescued, and on her behalf, I will never give that up. Thanks for sharing!

The only problem is, when I go into the bathroom, especially in winter, to get ready for bed at night. I usually come out to find that 'my' bed has been taken over, and have to squeeze myself into 'their' bed somehow😂 👍✌✌✌✌😙😙

Both of my dogs can tell when I’m having a panic attack. My German mix is always touching me and nosing me and won’t leave me alone if I’m sad or panicked, and my staffie will just sit there and stare at me like he knows he’ll be there if I need someone to hug. Dogs are a beautiful thing.

I know this video is 3 years old but I hope you guys are still together... Your story touched me hard... I was never in the army but I am fighting depressions since a long time... I couldn't work anymore and being home the whole time was horrible... I am a giant animal lover and I decided to adopt a dog too... That's how I met our beloved giant baby girl crazy Daisy from the local shelter... It was love at first sight for everybody and we took her home the same day. She was just 7 months old but huge. A mix of St Bernhard and a big munsterlander, a german hunting breed...but she thought all her life she is a lap dog... We had almost 11 incredible years with that sweet soul... She was carrying her heart in her eyes...She was my baby, my shadow, my soulmate and my all... She wasn't sick for one day until august 2019... Normally she laid on my left side with body contact every time. That day she laid under the table and I knew something was wrong... She had 40.6 degrees feaver and was kind of knocked out... After putting cold towels around her legs and body the temperature went down to 38.6 and she was normal again... The next day we brought her to the vet... They found out there was a infection somewhere and she got antibiotics. 3 days later we came again for an ultrasound. There was a shadow where there must be the milt... The vet said it's no problem to get the milt out and she will make the surgery now and we can pick her up in the afternoon... We were just 2 or 3 minutes at my daughters house and my mobile was ringing and it was the vet... She said she opened the stomach area and there were multiple other tumors of a very aggressive kind of cancer... She would live maybe 4 - 8 weeks and this in pain and she wouldn't let her wake up again.... Our whole world broke down in a second and we weren't able to think... We drove back to the vet as fast as we could... Daisy was lying on the surgery table with a mask for inhaling the narcotic gas... We hold her about an hour crying all the time and pet her... The vet came in and said it's time now for the final shot... It was so horrible and cruel and we were so heartbroken... Before she gave her that shot I asked for a ink pad and took her paw print... This paw print is now a tattoo... After maybe 2 minutes she said it's over... This beautiful and sweet and affectionated baby was gone... Her wonderful big eyes were like glass marbles and the sweetest soul ever was gone... It was such a bad and sad time with unbelievable grieving... She took our hearts with her and we still miss our giant baby girl so so much... I don't leave the house for a long time and my husband was very worried about me... My life lost the best friend ever and I was despaired... One year later it was still that bad. We couldn't stand that emptiness and lonelyness in the house anymore so we decided to adopt a new dog and give him the best live... So we found our sweet boy Marley. He was found at a dumpster in Greece and after quarantine he came to Germany and we adopted him directly.... He had a bad start and we wanted to make him happy...and he is ! Of course we love him very much and he is a very sweet and beautiful boy and he has a great life now... But honestly I must say that Daisy will be our number one cause she was so special and funny and always in a good mood and ready for any kind of action... But it must be like that cause Marley is another dog so the love is different... I am sure the day will come and we will be together again for all times and nothing can break this unbelievable bond... Love you so much wonderful baby girl and you will be always my number one.... And I love you Marley cause you are such a gentle love bug...

I know that feeling. I had to wait almost 2 hours before I got the call that my dog made out ok. Everybody thought she was about to die. But thankfully she made it. I try to keep her life a adventurous as possible!

Tripod pits are especially awesome. My neighbors have two tri-pittis, and joke, "Hey, between them? They've got..six legs.." And we all crack up laughing. No seriously.. to see them running at the dog park, playing and dogging around...you have to really look close to get it they are missing limbs. Such is their strength and grace. Hubby is a vet, and though he did not have PTSD..I respect what combat trauma can do to a service person. And the healing power of love. From your people, and from your wonderful dog. Hang in, buddy.

I've seen this story a few times. I hope that his pittie is still on this earth, but if he's not, he needs to go rescue another one immediately. He's a great dog dad. Thank you for your service Sir.

Having lost a dog to bone cancer - discovered because she seemed to pull a muscle in her leg and go lame (she'd usually ignore little injuries) - my heart is going out to him. We were unfortunate in that by the time the cancer was discovered it had already progressed. Until she tweaked her knee, as we thought it was, there had been no sign whatsoever. We were given a couple of weeks worth of painkiller, told that was probably all we had with her left, and told to go home and enjoy every last moment. So we did! The painkiller gave her a new lease of life. It was like she was 2 again (we got her as a retired racer - hadn't been any good lol - aged 2. The most beautiful pale brindle girl). She took everyone in the family out for walks. My eldest came home 300 miles from uni - breaking into the time he was working on his PhD thesis and the study it was part of - and was able to spend some time with her. Fortunately two of our other kids was home for the Easter hols at that time (both undergrads), and our other daughter popped in often, bringing her dog for play dates. 2 months later (and more bottles of pain relief!) she had explored parts of the village we didn't even know existed. Then one day, she looked at me and her eyes told me that she was ready to go. I called the vet out and they made a huge fuss of her, and played with her for a bit, then she finally went to sleep. I said never again. I've been through it too much (I'm crying now). Hubby, however, wasn't yet prepared to never have a dog again. So we borrowed our grandpup over the summer (to help my daughter out - that was our excuse and we stuck to it) and Xmas that year (2018), I went to the racing kennels (they rehome their own and rescue others as well, bless them), and took the dog who renamed himself Buddy (longer story than this!) to him. Best Xmas present he's ever got. They're completely inseparable. I hope that Bones is still going strong. If not, you must know my heart is with you right now. It will be impossible to replace him. But, you'd be surprised how much room you'll find in your heart to help another rescue dog in need. It won't be easy, but it will be possible. I'm absolutely positive that he'd want you to have someone else to watch over you. All my love x

Nothing compares to having an animal devoted to you, especially a dog. They are named humans' best friends for a reason. I just lost my baby girl German Shepherd mix to spline cancer at the end of February, after losing my German Shepherd boy in March 2017, to the same damn type of cancer. My life is now on hold, as I cannot imagine my existence without them. I still have three rescue dogs, but no one will replace Rico and Sheeba in my life.

Your story brought me to tears because I went through the exact same thing. I have a bad case of ptsd and panic attacks and I befriended a brindle pit bull that would become my best friend. She literally turned my world around for the better. At about 2 1/2 years old we found a tumor in her hind leg and it had to be amputated. As soon as the surgery was complete she was running again on three legs and was happier than ever and so was I. I had my best friend again. Unforunately the bone cancer had spread to far and 4 months after the surgery she had to be put to sleep due to the pain she was in. Even through the pain she managed to be strong for me and loved me until the very end. Its only been a year since she passed amd not one day goes by that her memories dont put a smile on my face. Even after her passing she manages to make me happy. I will forever be grateful to God for putting her in my life. I pray that you enjoy the time you have with Bones. Cherish it. God Bless

#1. Thank you for your service. #2. My daughter served in Iraq and would be lost without her blue pit, Diva. Each dog we all lose leaves a huge hole, but the world seems to prepare the next healer. They don't replace the one we lost. They add to the healing. My prayer is your next healer is here and ready at the appointed time.

i pray Jesus brings you another Bones one day when Bones goes over the rainbow bridge. Not to replace him, but as the next gift from heaven. God knows we love our pets so completely and utterly. That’s why He made them for us. They are unspeakably joyful creatures. i never want to be without dogs, ever. Ear has not heard nor eyes have not seen what God has prepared for them who love Him. I think dogs in heaven, our dogs we had on earth, will be there to greet us. Thank you Jesus for creating these precious animals.

I thank you truly for your service. My husband I have saved lots of cats and dogs off the street. My husband was military and civil service retired, passed in 2018. We received more love, comfort, enjoyable moments and something we can't get from human relationships than what we could give to our four legged children. I exactly know how you feel and happy with yours.
