not hard to understand how they were so dominant, learned to handle/training with weapons at 7, same as spartans and having no fear of ending in battle as it would bring you to a much better place than midgard(earth) so combined with being strong farmers, advance skill in able to use axes and other "tools" and no fear at all in battle......yea that is a scary opponent

You got that ChugChug feeling v3tReacts :D the Vikings weren't just roving pirates so much explorers and merchantmen to my knowledge, a lot of the Swedes at least though it is not that easy to tell with the sources available. Written ones are heavily tendentious (biased) because they were largely produced by Christians several hundred years after the fact. Runestones are different but a lot of the writing was on perishable materials such as wood which has obviously since rotted away in all but a few rare cases. Anyway, rambling. There is just something so Iconic about a longship landing on a beach and a band of absolute maniacs charging into battle scaring the ever-living shit out of Christian monks. I hope that Sabaton makes a song about the Varangian Guard (Väringagardet in Swedish), a mercenary company that was employed by the Byzantine emperor in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul, the former capital of the Ottoman Empire) at some point. I remember reading some accounts by a Muslim diplomat (I think) about his views of their ehm.. somewhat rowdy behavior in general. The man was not amused in the slightest xD
