Thousands of veterans are waiting to find out if they’ll have to start making different plans for their final resting place. Potential changes for who can be buried at Arlington National Cemetery were expected to be announced this year, but that has not happened. Investigative Reporter Ted Oberg and the News4 I-Team found some advocates are more hopeful than ever about a potential solution to ensuring a proper farewell to those who have served this country.

I'm a veteran who did three tours in war. I will be buried at Riverside National Cemetery in California; which will be an honor since it's also my home city.

Love the capt lady who wants to be buried at Arlington, thousands died and they didn’t get the opportunity. Get off you high horse lady.

Depends on how that "thousands" died. At the current eligibility, if you died in a Title 10 war, it doesn't matter if you are M/F, you are automatically eligible for below ground burial on ANC, otherwise anyone (male/female) served 20 years and retires and retained their retirement pay then however you die will also be eligible. And finally, anyone who have Silver Star/Purple and above can also buried in Arlington. Under the new rules, she's Navy, 20 + years and most likely didn't have neither Silver Star nor Purple Heart, so she will not be qualified for it. Under the current rule tho, she is eligible.

@rgarri. My father is 94 years old he has2 silver stars 1 from Korea 1 from Vietnam 2 bronze stars and a purple heart. Old regulations or new regulations He's eligible. But you know something ? He's not gonna be buried at Arlington it's not because he doesn't want to It's not because to quote you he didn't get the opportunity he chooses not to be buried there. He wants to be very close to home where the family can visit him and that is where most veterans usually wind up! It is not because they don't have a freaking choice.

I'm not an American, so my penny's worth might not count here. But shouldn't Arlington Cemetery be for those military personnel who have died in action or for the greater good of their country and not for those who got to leave the military or retired from it.

It's actually worse.. Their spouse(s) can also be buried there.

There are almost 460,000 graves if I remember correctly in Arlington going back to the Civil War. Who do you suggest we dig up ? There's only 2 presidents buried there JFK And William Howard Taft. By the way on the internet there's a list of civilians that are buried in Arlington and if you look at the list of vast majority of them do have a military or government background of some type.
