Boy do I have a story to tell. I live in India,Im a foreigner....I adopted my dog as a pup 9 yrs ago. Last year i suspect she suffered a Babesia Gibsoni bout. As I was trying to fly her to South Africa, I needed to do blood tests to comply with the South African quarantine requirements. India is not equipped to run these tests, so I had to send blood to Dubai. They conduct tests for Babesia Gibsoni. Her IFA test came back positive as a carrier of Babesia Gibsoni but the other perifiral test to see if she was currently sick with Babesia Gibsoni was negative. So as there is no current 100% cure for eradicating the parasite from her blood, we could not relocate her to South Africa, and because I love her so much, I decided to keep extending visas till she dies. I dont have it in me to abandon or rehome her. Anyhow, just after that report, her hind legs became lame somewhat. So began my constant visits to 6 different vets, one vet was 300km there and back. One vet said she had hip dysplacia, another said Arthritis as so did others. Then we had her on NSA Inflammatories. Then heaps of other meds also tried joint supplements, salmon oil, golden paste..etc etc. It just got worse, the meds and drugs created other issues and eventually my baby was reduced to a zombie. Thats when I flushed all the meds down the toilet. I then went to a state vet, they did xrays andsaid no hipdysplacia, no arthritis, she has an injured knee joint and by now was 3 kg over weight ( she was a healthy 15kg dog before the meds that I had to conceal inside cheese)(both meds and cheese were damaging to her) We began ultrasound and I followed all your massage tips, I used arnica cream on her legs daily. Worked really well. I also purchased an ultra sound machine and did that from home. Put her on curcumin supplements and salmon oil capsules. I then contracted a dog nutritionist, we did a whole sleep report, analyzed her daily routine and current eating habits. Took her off all the kibble, chew sticks and raw hide bone thingies....they use formaldehyde and commercial glue in those treats. I was always suspecting kibble was BS. We now have her on 2% of her body weight in food, 60% meat and 40% veg. No rice, no biscuits, no wheat, nothing inflammatory. As for the glucosamine and chandroidine supplements, I make her bone broth. So much better. her treats are chicken hearts or liver bits or chicken feet. Anyways, 6 months later, my baby can run and jump and play again, shes so much healthier off the BS pet foods. I swear they are out to kill off our pets too. If i may just say so, your advice played a huge part in me changing my approach to my dog and it certainly helped her to recover from everything. Bless you friend.

Thanks for sharing. Sorry she suffered under the hands of monsters. My Vet is a monster who prescribes deadly pharm drugs, so he can live a lavish life. He asked me to find another Vet. ; I told him, there are no Vets who give a rats a - - about my our dogs health. I'm appauled by all the Vets around the country. From where I'm sitting, I have a Rottweiler, he is 156 pounds, and 5 years old, has eaten only raw meat and bones since he was 8 weeks old, his teeth are pearly white, and he is in overall excellent condition, he gets plenty of exercise, I take him to the Vet every 6 months for a check up, he gets an A+ from the Vet, raw is the way to go, My Two Cents!

@@reynaldomeade4797 I give my rottie raw frozen bones to keep him busy & keep his teeth nice & white. He gets frozen chicken feet ( glucosamine & chondroitin for healthy joints) 3-4 a day. Frozen chicken feet are great back teeth cleaners & a great source of collagen for dog joints. You can find em real cheap at Walmart, by the chicken. Meaty neck bones with meat & gristle on them, are great sources of calcium & glucosamine. Raw meat has an enzyme that will break down the biofilm that causes plaque & chewing on the bone will clean the teeth. If your dog is an aggressive chewer, choose bigger raw bones. Lamb or oxtail bones are good choices, too, especially if you have a medium sized dog. You can find them at a butcher shop or the meat aisle in a grocery store, or ask if you don't see any out. If you feed your dog marrow bones, know that the marrow is rich & will give your dog runny poop. Whatever bones you choose, make sure to supervise your dog, incase any pieces break off into smaller pieces.

Same with my EBT, she suffers when she eats kibble "food," and most are allergic to poultry and whats in most kibble brand food even if chicken isnt listed on the front of the bag as the flavor so you think your buying beef type food then you look in the ingredients 9× out of ten you will see chicken in the list, its so processed its technically not food, just like Mcdonalds for us mcdonalds etc... shouldnt considered food, but for them Mcdonalds would be a healthier option for them then kibble crap its not good for any dog or cat,

@@beyourownmuse8297 My dog is allergic to chicken, too. He kept getting yeast ear infections until I switched him to raw beef- organs, muscle & bone. We had nicknamed him C-note bc every trip to the vet was at least $100! He also gets a rotation of broccoli, pumpkin or cut up green beans for other vitamins & fiber (other veggies were too starchy, broke down into sugar, which feeds yeast).Through trial & error we've finally found the right fit & he hasn't had a yeast infection in almost 2 1/2 years. Only goes to the doc for his yearly checkup & mandated rabies vax.

Follow the money! Hills Science Diet website says that corn meal is good for dogs and cats. I posted that dogs and cats don't need grains and cats can't even process corn. HSD replied, that, when they process the corn into meal, it is healthy. HSD neglected to say that the "processing" destroys all nutritional value. Corn is cheap filler, nothing more.

After one of my dogs stopped eating kibble completely, got dangerously thin, my BRAT canine version diet failed to get her to eat, I threw down a piece of raw chicken out of frustration, about 4 years ago. She gobbled it up quicker than I saw her eat in a long time... thus started me on the research of raw feeding. Now they all eat raw, and I spend less doing so. The hard part is finding organ meat, finally found a butcher that keeps organs ground up in stock/ he also feeds to his dogs....

What does she eat? human food, the same food I eat, she doesn't eat my leftovers, she eats red meat, no chicken, no pork. White rice and vegetables and a lot of water. She has my same diet! How does she look? Like a two years old dog, she rans, walks and jumps like a puppy! When was the last time I took her to the vet? Don't recalled! The same as me! Am close to 70 years old and just like my dog, I feel young, strong and full of life! How often I go for a walk with her? Just six times a day. Makes soooo much sense! Not only that but my dog developed horrible rotten teeth. I couldn't understand why. I never fed her human food and only fed her dry food because that was supposed to remove tartar as she crunched the food. Unfortunately I was too trusting and I never read the ingredients even though I was paying extra for high quality pet food or what I thought was. I finally read the ingredients and there was so much corn and beet and sugary plants that caused decay in her teeth

I like your approach to empowering people to make their pet’s food at home. I’ve been raw feeding for 4 years and have spent hours and hours researching balancing. But I’ve always been suspicious that feeding real food - even if it’s not perfectly balanced - is a lot better than kibble. Just common sense would tell you feeding real food is better than feeding dry balls if hard baked waste products. I like that you give people permission to make simple and easy meals for their pets the same way we do for ourselves and our human children.

I decided to stop giving dry Kibble to my fur baby and started buying The Farmers Dog Food which is human grade food…. I wanted to cut expenses and after five months or so found out they have a “DIY” program whereby you buy their Nutrient Mix Supplement and they give you many recipes to follow…….it was so helpful and easy to prepare, I can’t rave enough about it!!!!!! It’s costing me half of what I was paying every month and I’m willing to take the time to make a batch which at 304 calories/day lasts 8-days….so if I make 4 batches and freeze, I have enough for the whole month….I just got done making the Chicken and Broccoli and the Turkey and Vegetable Recipe…I’ll do the beef one next….then maybe another Turkey……..she’s 20lbs and a Chi/Pin….I feed her twice a day…..she absolutely loves it!!!!! I just want to keep her as healthy as possible…I too was giving her Acana which is a better grade of kibble but is still highly processed and has an extremely long shelf life……that’s my story…God bless everyone 🥰 and ty Dr for all your natural remedies……I made your shampoo with the Green Tea and Castile Soap and Lavender Oil…..

I make a batch of bone broth every month, freeze in ice cube trays and add that along with goals milk. My pups Vet isn't convinced of the raw diet. But I think she is seeing the light! For their first couple of months, my dogs had Kibble (Eukanuba). I started doing reading, just in general, and I soon realized that our first dog maybe would have lived longer and in less pain had we not fed her kibble. I got rid of the kibble, and my dogs (one 9 and the other 3) are a bundle of energy and health. I cook all of their meals, varying them a lot. I also give them sardines, and everyone once in a while a raw chicken foot. I make games throwing them blueberries to chase down. I also put in a few beans here and there. The 9 year old LOVES cauliflower, so that is a daily treat for her, while the other loves apple. I make broth out of chicken feet and use that to make brown basmati rice and other things for them. I always put a small amount of some green- parsley, rainbow chard, other times kale. I then sprinkle a bit of kelp, and I use ancestral supplements Living Bone which I like because it has a natural ratio of calcium and phosphorus.

I have almost the same recipe. I start with a ground beef base then add: lentils, green powder, pumpkin, ground flax or chia seeds, psyllium powder dusting as a binder, and sunflower seeds. The ground beef is microwaved with the other ingredients into a meat sauce texture. I also include a mixture of uncooked carrots, tomato, broccoli, and strawberries blended to a sauce with bone broth. I change the ingredients occasionally. When I feed them I add a bit of V-dog or Wild Earth vegan kibble and mix it all together. The kibble provides a healthy crunch they like and may catch some nutrients I may have missed. Most of my dogs have lived to 18 years. They pass from old age. They get a noon meal and a couple of treats in the evening for teeth cleaning. I have never and would never feed them the poison in the store dog food aisle. The "meat" in these commercial foods are denatured and / or rancid from processing to "sanitize" for consumption. Even the ones from the store cooler. It's what you start with that matters. If the ingredients list has more than two or three items, walk away. Ask yourself. How can a unrefrigerated bag of dog food sit on a warm store shelf for six months and claim the number one ingredient is meat? Think preservatives.

I hear you about cooking constantly! I have 4 dogs, 2 of which are lab-cross 4- month old puppies, their 1-1/2 year old mom, and an ancient beagle who decided on his own to move in with me. I fixed a great big stock pot of ground turkey, brown rice and mixed canned vegetables because that’s what I had on hand and a $48 bag of dog food lasted about a week with this crew. I’m going to adjust my recipe next time, but even this huge batch is going to last less than a week. Maybe I’ll go back to the bagged raw chicken with cooked veggies.

I have two kittens, now 10 months old. I have been moving them from kibble to wet food, mixed with raw. They just stopped eating the wet food. Now I give them raw ground beef, and boiled chicken. I have a supplement powder with vitamins, minerals and taurine. I mix the powder in beef bone broth. A few times a week, I add beef or chicken liver and some broccoli. Can I ask you how you know how much taurine to give a cat?
@AcornHillHomestead
@AcornHillHomestead Жыл бұрын
@@blkbrn1952 Dr Jones mentions that in his YT video about home made cat food. I believe 1000 mg per lb of cooked ground turkey. I have an 8 month old cat and am transitioning him to the home made. He recently got very sick after eating commercial wet food (beef) that our recently adopted cat eats and was recommended by the shelter. I dont think it was the food so much as a sudden change from chicken to beef. He got into the other cats dish after seeing he was eating something different. My young one has had an issue before with switching foods too soon then he wouldn’t eat for days. The first time was a month ago and $615 later the vet could do nothing for him but another blood test, xrays, antibiotics, tranquilizer and fluids. He just had blood work done when down for Being neutered and everything was normal 😬. I had given him organ meats just as a treat the night before he stopped eating. So this time I took matters into my own hands after he stopped eating and am feeding him home made chicken, home made chicken bone broth (magic for sick pets and great for the gut) adding in probiotics, digestive enzymes, coloidal silver, L-lysine and giving him a vitamin supplement. He was a 10 week old stray when we found him so he may have some issues stemming from that. Took 4 days of nursing him back to health but without drugs and he looks and acts great now. Some pets are extremely sensitive to switching foods especially young ones.

@@blkbrn1952 The amount of taurine is based on the cat's weight. A rule of thumb is, 10 mg of taurine, per kg of weight per day. All cats are different, here is my situation: My two kittens weigh about 7 pounds, or 3.2 kg. They should get 32mg of taurine a day. The supplement contains 125mg per day. There is also taurine in the ground beef. I feed chicken thigh meat, which has more taurine than light meat. I have not found any problems with giving them lots of taurine.

My get some not nice comments but our story. Male cat, almost completely blocked. I am truly grateful to a vet clinic I trust with my fur babies welfare. He was a holy terror, yet they gave him the care needed. I saw his distress when I was finally able to pick him up. Not due to the care they were giving, he was just an angry kitty. They did not up sell me on anything, never have. In fact, after four nights stay, medication and procedures, plus that new prescription diet, bill was only $350. That includes new feed for all four of my babies.I do love your channel! Yet I have found a clinic and group of doctors who honestly care. From a small midwestern town, they could price gauge if they wanted to, they never have. Yes, giving that "awful" dry prescription kibble (watered down) plus the prescription wet food. There are good, decent vets out there, grateful for the ones who always come through for my fur kids.

My vet is kind and good too but also promotes the prescription diet steroids and antibiotics. I am trying to temper the prescription kibble with the better kibble plus wet food made by me and purchased. I am very fortunate my cats have always been good water drinkers. I filter their water and have ceramic or stainless bowls no plastic for them for food or water and I wash bowls and change the water daily. I also keep the water bowl away from food bowl and they drink more that way. I hope this info helps anyone with cats as well as yourself just in case. I'm confused about the raw chicken thing. Aren't we constantly cautioned about eating raw chicken and making sure we wipe down and sanitize cutting boards and utensils that came in contact with raw meat? Why is it then OK to feed dogs and cats raw grocery store meat, but more specifically chicken? This is a serious question. When I make chicken for myself, I cook a piece separately for my cat and he loves it. But I never thought it would be safe to give him a piece that was raw.

I have the same question. Until I get an answer, I'm going with the idea that dogs' and cats' digestive systems are better able to handle stuff we cannot. Also, there's a difference between feeding a solid piece of meat as opposed to ground. Ground meat is a lot more dangerous than whole meat unless you grind it yourself.

Dogs have shorter digestive tracts designed for fast digestion of raw meats and bone. Their guts are very resistant to things that make humans sick like salmonella because of this. They have more hydrochloric acid in their guts for fast absorption. They digest food much quicker and therefore the food does not have time to sit around and ferment in their guts. Hope this helps 🙂

@FairyMoon Tarot It's not because the poultry is raw that makes it dangerous... It's the way it's processed. It's processed in such a way that if one bird has a dangerous pathogen, it passes it on to ALL the birds being processed. It's because of the methods the poultry processors use. Beef, lamb, pork, etc., are not processed the same way. Thus, the concern about feeding anyone raw poultry.

B4 we domesticated these animals, alls they did was hunt 4 their food, which meant eating whatever they caught as it came... it also meant they didn't eat daily & they were healthier 4 it. I've started feeding our dogs just once daily, at different times, & their behavior, energy, appetite, etc is better. It's referred to as intermittent fasting for dogs, & is based on the history of their eating habits (basically)... They are finally slimming down eating a full amount of daily recommended food all at once, where the diets, restricted food, etc didn't work at twice at scheduled times, so I think for our (large & giant breed dogs) pets this is working great. Just saying...

As a staple, we feed high-end kibbles (acana, North paw - anything over 50% meat content). Whenever possible, we feed raw. This fall, we had the fortune of two roadkill deer that we brought home and processed, and just a few days ago we processed our boar. It's hard to divvy up all the parts equally (it's freezing out - I'm just gonna reach in the bucket, grab a piece and toss it!), like, last night the monkey (not an actual monkey, but our 140# male who acts like a monkey!) got a pair of lungs while all the ladies got chunks of muscle, fat and bone... but I figure it all works out in the end (a reason we feed kibbles in conjunction with raw). The one thing I DO make sure to divvy up is the liver, as feeding too much of that can lead to vitamin A toxicity from what I've read. As far as feeding veg, none will eat them, with very few exceptions: Athena will eat carrots that were part of a meat dish (but Athena also likes Frank's red hot, so...); monkey will dig up and take bites out of potatoes and carrots (MY potatoes and carrots!); Arya turns her nose up at anything plant-based. Stella is still new, but with how voraciously she LOVED the raw deer when she first came home, I don't think she'll ever want any veg other than the sticks and bark that she keeps stealing for teething, lol 😆

You are in for a future of torment for your dog. My dog will never be normal. Apoquel is to blame. Please consider sooner than later and get to the "REASON" your dog is having allergic reactions. My dog ended up with IMT. Apoquel is an immune suppressant and will eventually destroy any chance animals have to heal naturally. I learned all of this the hard way. Sometimes I give her an egg mixed in or a tin of sardines. I make 3 weeks worth of dinners and freeze them into portions for each day. I have her nearly 2 years now and she is very healthy. It's actually no big fuss to make. It takes a half hour to do it. It's cheaper than a medium quality kibble and I get a lot of satisfaction knowing she is getting the best food I can give her. She is a cockapoo. I'm keen to see if she lives longer than the average cockapoo.

No kibble here. I make my dog's food and add Ultimate Canine. He's doing much better at 11 years old.

Yes, I wonder how our companion animals successfully evolved alongside us before advent of pet food industry concocting the “best pet diet” in a bag?? Dubious of claims my dogs will die from just a bit of onion. When I go to veterinarian clinic display stacks of “prescription” food, it’s apparent they have vested interest, are complicit in furthering industry profits alongside there own. Much of my distrust came about after losing my little Jack Russell to renal failure 2007 from Chinese import ingredients. Thank you Dr Jones for showing how simple it is to feed our dogs healthy and safely!

Im so confused. My dog has MCT, and the other day, she was at the vet, and I told the vet that I changed her diet to 95% raw and a small amount of kibble 1/2 cup. She said to check the kiddle for potatoes and legumes. She said they weren't good for my dog to eat. The kibble has sweet potatoes and peas.

Thanks ' very helpful information. I've been feeding my 3yr old girl (rottweiler)retriever bites and bones and it always gives her indigestion. But lately I've been incorporating sweet potatoes and blueberries. Working towards the raw products

Dr Jones, You are right!! I totally agree with you. All the risks in pet food, whether it be canned or kibble, is not going to make your dog live to be 20, and maybe not even 10. And I know that 20 is very old for any dog, and maybe your dog could live closer to the age of 20, if they were eating very healthy and fresh "people" food, I guess for lack of a better term. Also, they probably would have less health problems and be at the Vet less frequently, if their diet is brought up to a higher standard. Not eating the dregs of the factory farming left overs that go into a lot of dog food, no matter how expensive. My dogs always eat the more expensive dog foods but still! there are toxins to avoid in those foods as well. My Vet always says just what you have divulged in this video....she's not always that supportive about making homemade dog food, saying it's key to have all the vitamins and minerals that are put into kibble and wet food, but I know that you are absolutely right, try to feed your dog fresh food a couple times a week, mixed in with kibble...it does take time to get that fresh food and prepare, but you are doing the absolute best thing for your dog's future health and longevity. I like your videos very much! I love your natural approach to pet care whenever we can do it....THANK YOU 💟☮☯🕉

I’ve bought for my cats the “better” and more expensive kibbles to supplement canned food and I’m on my second brand of the better kibble that they won’t eat!! That’s two explanation points for two brands!
