A life hack for you Jon, and anyone else interested. It is only the surface sand that is hot, if you knife your feet about 2-3 inches in to the soil you will find it cooler to walk.

The only time in my life, and a fair amount of travel, that I got food poisoning was on a trip to Portugal! On the bog, every hour on the hour, for 24 hours. So I did laugh in sympathy. When I asked for medical assistance after a few hours, they smiled condescendingly and said no, don't try to rush it - let your body deal with it, in its own time. 😢

As someone who grew up in a country where Brits often holiday, as well as having lived in the UK for 7 years, I can confirm that this is the typical attitude - try your best to avoid seeing the bright side, the silver lining as much as possible, and dig deep for as many complaints as humanly possible, then add a few more for comedic effect. Even the way they refer to holidays - "escapes" has negative connotations: there's no looking forward to the good thing, it's about looking back at the worse thing they're "escaping". I never thought I'd say this, but thank goodness for American tourists for the occasional ray of sunshine.

Having grown up in the UK, and being here 40 years, can confirm , that most foreigners will NEVER understand British humour 🙄 Well played Jon Richardson 👏 as always

@@lulabelle4527 Of course we do, my comment above was a complaint about a foreign country (to me), and a joke, in exactly the same vein. British complaint humour thrown back at you... don't you get it? Hilarious, isn't it? Don't take the complaining about your country personally, because we're not supposed to be offended by your complaining about ours. Right? Hilarious.

Could you imagine if an Aussie married a British person. What a contrast that would be. As for most Canadians, I'd say we fall somewhere in the middle.

@@lulabelle4527 Complaining is a huge part of British culture. You have millions of pounds worth of gossip magazine activity and don't distinguish between news and gossip. The first thing a British person does after someone leaves that they've just met, is complain/gossip about them behind their backs. Without even a hint of guilt. There are so many rich famous people there that have worked at and achieved nothing in their lives to deserve it, but just because people like to read gossip about them, they are celebrities. Big Brother is one of the most successful TV programs ever over there, for no reason other than the public being able to complain about people behind their backs, in gleeful joy. If you want to feel proud of that culture, that's your choice, but to the rest of us, except for classic old-school stuff, what you are calling "British humour" isn't funny, it's just sad, cowardly, malicious, two-faced complaining. Monty Python this is not.
