Tamizh and Malyalam cinephiles do not realize how lucky they are to have daring filmmakers like Vetrimaaran and Martin Prakkat who make films which speak truth to power. It is unthinkable for me to imagine a Hindi movie director coming close to making such searing movies like Visaranai and Nayattu. I would urge the Tamizh and Malayalam audience to keep going to see movies by such directors because their films are the only ones which are critical of authority, which is so refreshing to see while most of Bollywood is busy brown nosing the central government

I liked this extended cut more than the theatrical cut. it has more breathing space compared to the theatrical cut. expecting more directors do the same.

The extended version is another layer of the theatrical version... it was so exciting to see the various other events happening around the theatrical version...... both the theatrical and extended version makes this wholesome.... after seeing this... feeling that this must happen to Vadachennai also... i am sure Dir. Vetrimaran has so many layers like this in vadachennai movie too.. that it can be released as a Series....

Rajiv Menon could become a great actor....He has the Poise and Grace, and has a soothing voice and a extended, not so rushed speech pattern. If Directors cast him more often, we could see another great actor from the Industry!

I really like Vetri’s own critique. Not many directors really does this kind of reflection. Like what Gautam said, Vetrimaran is always finding his film while doing it organically. Really a sincere director for his audience. Francis Coppola does that. That’s why you will see most famous western directors have many extended cuts. That’s what you will see in 4K or criterion releases. Wish to,see vetrimaran films in Criterion series. Really enjoyed all the three reflections about the film in this interview.

To those persons who asking 'why did you cut those scenes vetri? Those are perfect'. The reason is us, we're the reason. If the director take 5 minutes for character arc, then we all yell the hell out of our mouths that the movie is slow, and actually what the hell we're really expecting? I really doesn't know. As BR said in his podcast, rn we (audience) are the one who destroying the art of cinema. Understand it.

just watched the director's cut.. the movie flows so beautifully in this cut, not sure why VM chose to cut these scenes for theatrical, never felt a drag or any slowness... Glad he released this to the public... Thanks BR for the interview.

Hi, this is not related to the video but, i want to present this as a request, I know that the bigger movies like ponniyin selvan and viduthalai are really interesting to review and with interviews it sheds light on the process of making a good film, but I would also like to request you review other smaller films, the results don't matter but at-least review them, for example: sopana sudari, or a run baby run, or a 1947 august 16. If bigger reviewers like yourself review such films there will be more attention to these smaller films if they turn out to be good smaller and new attempts will be encouraged to be made again. But other than that I love your interviews, and questioning style.
