Mine is to be delivered tomorrow and I am new to the game. Have done a lot of welding and metal work over the years and this should be great for me because I've been too lazy to build my own. Like the stainless steel shell and hope it will last longer than a carbon steel shell. Thanks for the setup video!

Oh man! Talk about not thinking before buying something! Kicking myself just about now! I recently bought the Vevor forge with two burner... son of a gun! I could have purchased this unit instead and have a furnace and a forge! Argghhhh!!! Anyway, great video!!

For the air adjustment I am thinking of installing copper tabs, drilling the tabs and soldering a nut on them. Through the nut it will be possible to tighten a wing screw to lock the adjustment 😉

Smelting? So we're using it to extract metal from ore? Cool

This 'smelting' description is an error I see very often.

Nice review. I've been considering the Vevor 12kg but am 100% new to melting furnaces. What others would you recommend on a budget?

The vevor 12kg one is the only per made one I have used so I only have homemade ones to compare it with. Basically any of the $400 or less ones will be basically the same. I went with the vevor 12kg one because it can double as a forge. If you don't care to forge and you are not casting big items I would recommend a 6kg to start off with.

Hello Kevin, nice video! Is there anything there with your connections to have air fliw?

Just cut out holes in the burner near the gas intake to suck air in.

Do have to have both valves or can you just have one open(Have the bottom one open and the top one closed)?
@KevinChainey
@KevinChainey Жыл бұрын
There is a valve on each burner so you can run it with just one burner. I found it really hard to light with just the top burner, due to the lack of a choke to control the air. Once hot it runs on one burner no problem.

Sideways with the lid on it's pretty much like a glory hole , like for glass-blowing .

I was going to say very much the same. I worked in a glass blowing factory for several years.

@howardosborne8647 I have a book on glassblowing from 1974 , I've had it for 30+ years but never taken the steps to blow glass . The next City over from me , Pensacola , has a glassblowing club and I believe they are the ones who made the glass pelican figures that downtown Pensacola has displayed on its sidewalks .

I've seen where you need a piece of cardboard under the crucible, just to reduce the chances of the crucible sticking to the fire brick.
@KevinChainey

Never heard that before but I can see how it will help. Thanks for the tip

Havent seen any videos yet about crucibles sticking to fire brick. cardboard would catch fire from the heat of the crucible so I dont see that as a viable option
@roguepowersports3576
@roguepowersports3576 10 ай бұрын
@johndurrett3573 yes the cardboard burns away. It's the ash from the cardboard that acts as buffer between the crucible and fire brick to prevent them from sticking to each other which can happen.
@howardosborne8647
@howardosborne8647 7 ай бұрын
@@johndurrett3573the cardboard burns and turns into a thin carbon layer under the crucible. That is how it prevents the crucible fusing to the brick.

What's the maximum temperature that the dual burner reach? Can it melt steel
@KevinChainey
@KevinChainey Жыл бұрын
I personally have not tried melting steel with it yet. Vevor claims it can reach up to 2700F which is the mid point of melting carbon steel (depending on the alloy). I will be trying to melt steel in the future with it, to see if it can.

@@KevinChaineySteel melting in that type of crucible is not really a safe idea. The melting point of steel is way above the safe working temp range for a clay/graphite crucible.
