It was a pain to access and work on when it went on my bike however with a few alterations you can alter it to be a bit more accessible making it easier to keep a check on

@@edvinas4072 if you very carefully cut into the loom near the ground block you can extend the wires coming from the block itself and then wrap them up and form another branch loom. this will allow you to have the block somewhere you can access very quickly

I had a 2003 VFR. Honda did a recall to replace the loom going to the head lights. Not sure if that block was replaced as well. Mine was recalled in 2010. I never had any electrical issues. Had 90000kms on it when i sold it.

I'm yet to find out what changes were made in the looms they placed in the bikes during recalls but I'm itching to find out. I do believe they kept this in there or something similar. Despise as much as we all do at the end of the day all them electrical items have a ground wire and they all have to go to ground and this is one of the ways of achieving that task. had it been designed a little better on their placement with some thicker wire then it should never have had an issue. having worked on multiple bikes and their looms ive learned that all the manufacturers seem to have their own ways of dealing with ground wires.

I had this issue, I thought it was relays to start with, I ended up running 3 wires from the frame to the indicators and left/right light looms, everything back working as it should... phew!

there is a second in the front loom section maybe your issue lies in that one

Having this problem right now for the past year taking it to the shop having tests done.... I was able to locate another problem area for weird electrical sh. It that Honda should be able to redesign- at the bottom of the ignition block your wires will get a short. .... eventually because the back and forth as your bike moves your wires from the rt hand starter..... I need to know where this part is at so I can fix and ride again 😢

The worst part is the areas of concern on the loom are not only not mentioned by honda but in a terrible place to access. I've had that issue aswell it's common on most bikes as them cables are always moving around. You don't have to replace the barrel you can remove the ignition, strip it and the bottom piece with the wires connected can be swapped over from another barrel solong as all the connections are the same. You can also have the wires resoldered on or new wires used solong as the gauge of the wire is a match. It will save you from having to buy a whole new lock set

I have a bad grounding problem as well, do you have a picture of the bike showing the area where i can find that connector? I have already bypassed the green ground on the blue main front connector but i still get no ground from time to time. I would like to check on that hidden grounding collector as well
@ABMotorbikes
@ABMotorbikes Жыл бұрын
theres 2. one in the front harness just north of the blue connector, feel the loom its taped inside from the factory but youl know when you have found it. the green ground wire you speak of near the blue connector is for this block which carries the ground for everything front end of the bike. the second is on the main wire loom on the left side of the bike and its not easy to get to. if you remove the fairing and coolant overflow bottle you might be able to reach in and feel it but without a fair bit of disassembly you cant get at it to work on it.

I just finished rebuilding both grounding from scratch an hour ago, i removed those janky connettors and added two equipotential blocks, all ground cables end into these brass blocks and are screwed in. Also i bypassed the original group small wires by adding to 2.5 square mm cables one in the front and one in the back connected directly on the frame with the battery ground wire. Now the bike runs smoothly and the electricity consumption is much less. Before i had both plastic ground blocks burned...

pff more electric issues , i vreally love the vfr but this and it killing rectifiers/ alternators really has put me off from buying one
@ABMotorbikes
@ABMotorbikes Жыл бұрын
It's generally down to the nature that these bikes get hot and Honda placed electrics next to the hottest parts along with cutting the budget on some connectors all of which can be easily rectified. other than that there is no more electrical trouble than the next bike

@@ABMotorbikes Only had my VFR 750 a few weeks, Yes it runs HOT. Do you think a larger / thicker radiator with more cores or even an extra (small of course) rad could be fitted ? Both from the point of the loom but just to have it a few degrees cooler all round. What's your opinion ?
@ABMotorbikes
@ABMotorbikes 11 ай бұрын
The best thing to do is begin with a good thorough check over and service of the cooling system. Drain the system and flush it thoroughly several times. Before filling it back up check all your hoses as any leak will not only mean lost coolant but also lost pressure. I would also recommend replacing the thermostat even if your current one works It is quite a time consuming job as its under the throttle bodies but easy to do. you could also replace the rad cap with a new one. these parts do lose performance over time and play a huge role in the cooling systems operation however they are fairly cheap to replace. After all this refill your system but bleed it multiple times to get as much air out as possible. The final thing which i highly advise anyone with a vfr is to fit a manual switch for the fan. I have one on mine and it helps immensely in keeping the temp under control.
