Honestly tragic how Light and Marss had to face each other to qualify for Top 8. Their player matchup/rivarly is top 5 in Ult imo.

I freaking love that Marss picked up Joker so much, And that he still will whip out the ZSS sometimes. I think it’s so optimal and he’s gonna do great things

for all those people saying marss “fell off,” i just disagree. his main that he’s been playing for like 5 years including smash 4 got nerfed, on top of the meta developing in a way that nullifies her. on top of the fact that covid happened and zss is such a hard character online. so now he has to pick up one of the hardest characters in the game, and he’s been improving and adapting really well. you got this marss, ik you’re still the best in the world ;)

He definitely hasn't fallen off he just needs more bracket exp with that joker and to attend more events, he'll be in every top 8 he shows up for in no time.

Marss this tourney has validated what I’ve long thought about smash: people write off genuinely optimal punishes as “scrub behavior” because they aren’t technical or cool. Throwing out an fsmash where you’re pretty sure someone is gonna land works so much of the time but players be like “yeah I’ll only smash attack when I have a kill confirm into it it out of parry so I don’t die for it” like bro it’s just an fsmash it’s not that bad. Obviously if you play ike this doesn’t apply to you you’ll definitely die for throwing that shit out

@@cheers9430 facts and even then I can think of several laggy ones that are still so good. Dk can dash dance and then throw out a random fsmash and that bait works almost 100% of the time, even at mid-level play

This bracket led to a lot of annoying stuff, like Loaf and Ferps fighting in round one of losers, but this is the most irritating thing to me. Marss beats Light the first time and then loses the second, but the even set count in this tournament doesn’t matter and Marss is eliminated. I know that’s how brackets work. I get that. It’s nothing new and to be the best you have to win where it matters consistently. It’s just really frustrating as a huge fan of Marss to see him make the upset against Light after wavering results and then have to fight him AGAIN so early. They’re friends and they live in the same region. I wish the bracket at least found a way to space them out more with that in mind. Them fighting twice in one invitational is really annoying, especially when majors have changed seeding for Mexican players who have like five guys seeded for top 16 as is.

I think Marss is happy with this. This was lowkey anime as fuck. If you listen to his interview after his first set with Light He wasn't happy He thought Light played terrible Marss played the role of the mentor you have to beat before you're ready to fight the villians (The Steves and Kazuyas) So Marss was like You'd better snap out of it Light, and start taking this tournament seriously!! Or I'M gonna be the one to send you home!!! Anime asf

@@dorohime7001 That’s if you’re content with the narrative of Light being “the protagonist.” I like Light too, but I like Marss more. Besides, Light isn’t the scrappy underdog anymore. He’s incredibly good at this game and has proven himself a definitive contender for top five and possibly even top three in the world. Marss, meanwhile, has had rocky tournament results essentially since offline events returned and I really want to see him back in the conversation for at least the top ten. Light would’ve still been regarded very highly if he’d fallen here, with people generally recognizing one bad performance does not discredit the player. I just feel like Marss hasn’t established that same credibility since quarantine ended and I really wish they didn’t make him face his greatest rival twice at his first event where his Joker looked prepared for top level competition. Still, I do believe the better player won. It just sucks that they had to fight so early in the final bracket after already being stuck in the same pool.
