What a pro she is and the song is definitely one of Denmark's best ever in the ESC! However, the no. 1 Danish song of all time didn't make it to the ESC in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix in 1960; To lys på ett bord. I'd give it douze points from Sweden even in 2019.

Such a happy and fun song! What makes the performance better is how happy she looks being on the ESC stage. After placing 2nd place in 3 national finals, I think you'll be so happy after finally getting your ticket to the contest! Honestly, this would have been a great winner for 1989.

Loved this entry and totally deserved its third placing. Actually thought it was better than the Yugoslav and UK entries aas well.

I was 6 in 89, so I can't say I was paying attention to ESC when this was on, but I did get a tape a couple of years later with this song on it, and it's been stuck in my head ever since. It helps that I'm Danish and know the lyrics (which are really catchy). But also, after having looked up the winner and 2nd place of ESC 1989 I just don't know how this song placed below those.

She sold this song so well. How that disaster from Yugoslavia beat this is beyond me.

Ok, so the gimmick with Krogsgard joining the gang on stage midway through the song is a bit cheesy, but who cares - the entire song and performance are cheesy, charming, and innocently fun. I just wish the director had shown us the nuances of the staging: the singer waving to the conductor, the conductor going "what? me?" and then starting to conduct again on stage - all of this is lost due to the static photography. Shame.

What's the song about? Because "Were painting the town red" gives me communist vibes, and idk if that'd have been allowed back then.
