Praise be to all the unholy gods of bad chemistry! As a lifelong devotee of Butthole Surfers it is a fucking joy to see another band come along and take up the mantle. This set is as gorgeously unhinged as anything on the Blind Eye Sees All set. What a perfectly ungodly racket of chaos! And the lyrics! Like the story of my earlier life, the one I was living up until a decade ago. Just when I think I'm not going to encounter any new music that really excites me, really grabs me by the ball-bag and drags me screaming onto the dance floor, Viagra Boys come along. Best shit ever, beast shit ever!!!

I’m embarrassed about the fact I’ve only got into them the last few months, heard them in November…. Went to a gig in Glasgow last week in January. The whole crowd we’re absolutely bouncing even to the slower songs, brilliant to see live

Wasn't that familiar with Research Chemicals until I saw VB in concert. Now it's one of my favorites. Crazy it was one of their first songs and still used a lot for the opening song in concert.

And there I was watching them yesterday at a Danish festival I went to for three other bands (Jack White probably felt he had to up his game coming on after them), knowing nothing about them, thinking they were perhaps jumping on the Idles bandwagon but still blown away. A little research and "how wrong can a man be?" is the conclusion. Been listening to them all day and this shows up. Also... can it be a coincidence that this totally bass driven band was formed the same year Lemmy died - almost as if to say "I can go now... The future will be safe in their hands".

Oh God... yes. I remember them. They were weird as hell. Used to sing in their own made-up language. Never got to see them when I lived in France but I had a couple of things by them on hardcore compilations. Probably gave them to my brother. Now you mention weird French shit from the 80s... Berurier Noir had a similar vibe too!

bro go check out the live version of I Gotta Move. it is the one with shittier quality, there are two or 3 up, but it goes on for 20 minutes. that's what makes a band truly great for me. the feeling that the song is infinite and could go on forever

Good stuff. Just discovered this band. Just bought tunes from this band. Looking forward to seeing VB's at SXSW in a month. The comparisons to BHS & KJ & Joy Division are WAAAY overhyped. Going back to when I was 18 in 1980 I've seen those bands in various settings some of which were in little basements, and tiny social clubs where the crowds numbered in the teens. But VB's show great potential. They, like all great bands don't mimic their influences. They assimilate them and take them to a place no other band has taken them. If they wanna go big league then they need to not just stand there and kinda bounce around. Big visuals. Stage craft & props. Lights. Flames. Explosions. Maybe make the crowd fear for their safety or at the very least genuinely force the audience out of their comfort zone. As Gibson Haynes once monotoned after peppering the crowd with flaming balls shot out of Roman Candles he was holding in his hands and aiming right at our terrorized faces as we ran for cover..."Smoke is the answer."

Na that is the same bass player , just looks different with a beard. The core of the band is bass, drums and of course seb and that hasn’t changed since day 1. But yeh they’ve had a few guitarists keyboard and sax players

As far as I can see the only personnel changes are the guitarist (RIP), a guitar/percussion player (who doesn't seem to be on this footage anyway) and the keyboard player. But yeah... 9 years on the band members as they are now are pretty unrecognisable in this.
