One of the biggest challenges in long boarding is being able to stop or slow down, especially on hills. There's got to be a better way than dragging my land paddle, right? In this video, I'll be installing and testing Vibe Ride's longboard brake.

Great review on what it's like to install them. Can't wait for a review on what it's like to ride them.

Great to see how easy it is to install! I've been considering this for a while. I got a longboard a few years ago that I custom build myself, and getting a bit older, injury just really isn't an option for me. Not only can I not afford it, but it takes longer to heal and just ruins the fun of skating. I was an avid skater as a kid, but stopped for years. So getting back into is a little bit slow, because of that fear of injury. Also! For the pebble problem, look into Shark wheels. I have them on my board, and they are fantastic.

Great video. I couldn't have put it better. I love my longboard, but age, a new knee and other stuff means foot-braking is not really a choice.

Hi Rachael! I loved watching your skating/longboarding vlog. That brake is super important for safety, especially in the hilly area you live in.

I havent been on a board in 50 years😅 wow tech has changed. We would downhill on our backs with motorcycle helmets, gloves and 2 pairs of pants. No brakes, you stopped at the bottom of the hill, or fell off😅

I bought the brake set too and attached it to my Landyachtz Drop Hammer deck, which is a drop-through, so there's no need for drilling a hole. Good to see how it works for you with a top-mount deck. I think the brake is really helpful to overcome the fear of getting too fast, if only it wouldn't be so noisy. What do you think about the rattling coming from some parts of the truck?
@RachaelPadilla
@RachaelPadilla 9 ай бұрын
I was able to adjust most of it away. My first ride was a disaster in every way, but I started making little adjustments and got any rattle down to a minimum. I hadn't noticed them being too loud since then.

what exactly did you do to get it less noisy?@@RachaelPadilla

I tinkered with the tightness of the kingpin first. I believe that the bushings are of a different dur than I had previously. Then I worked on the "brakey" adjustment and made sure to tighten down the pedal bolt well. I haven't noticed them being more loud than usual since then.

Hi, Rachel. I just found your channel via this vid and was immediately interested in your feedback on the VibeRide brake - thank you! I just ordered the entire brake board tonight, but if all goes well, I may even buy and install VibeRide's braking system on to my other longboard, which BTW is exactly like your 44" Magneto, even down to the blue translucent 70mm wheels. 🙂 BTW, yes, pebbles are NOT our friends, but what I encounter more often here in So. California are uneven concrete slabs of sidewalk which threw me for a loop - literally - some months ago. My only longboard with a tail is the Magneto, which makes it safer for negotiating these hurdles, but not so with my 2 other longboards. 😞 Liked, subscribed, and cheers!

Pebbles are indeed the enemy. I've never had much luck with skateboards, but I used to do quite a bit of roller-skiing (yes, that is a thing) and "the pebble problem" is an ever present one, as my knees can readily testify. What a fun video. Reminds me of kids television in the 80's/90's shift era, when there was actually a "how to mod your skateboard" segment in a popular children's show. I love following along on your many and varied adventures, so thanks for an interesting ride. (Also, are those the Nike General Purpose shoes?)

I have seen people roller-skiing, but I've never tried it. I can imagine that pebbles would interfere just as much! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment, and you are correct, those are Nike GPSs. They are a very useful shoe!

Why take apart the whole truck and king pin just to attach the skate plate to the deck? I'm just wondering if the instructions said to do so?

Be wary of big, steep hills, the brakes lose efficiency really quickly and you'll end up with brake fade after a short while. Downhill254 did a review on his channel, and he couldn't brake anymore after a while of riding. edit: Also, wearing certified helmets and pads gives a lot of extra confidence.

He was talking about it's actual efficiency of coing to a complete stop at 50MPH, per his blog. It won't stop you within 20 yards like sliding would, it's much more gradual. But for everyday cruising, it's super efficient at slowing down and you just gotta try one IRL :)
