On this episode I finish up Refreshing this Classic 1980 Chevrolet Silverado BIG 10, and it turned out amazing! I buffed the paint to remove the oxidation, cleaned the interior, painted the door panels, added chrome bed caps, and finally found some original hub caps in great shape. I Also detailed the engine compartment and box. Watch this truck really come together! Please Like and Subscribe!

Bought my dad a '79 version of a sorta kinda similar truck in '85. Plainer version with a 6 cylinder and three on the tree but very similar interior. He loved that thing, had always wanted a truck. Unfortunately, when he passed in '91 I did not stop my mother from selling his truck. Lots of emotions and all that. I am so glad he had the truck for 6 years. Wish I had it now. A feller misses his dad.

The Big Ten, was basically known as a heavy half ton. GMC built a similar version they called The Gentleman Jim. It was a heavy package with overload springs and a towing package that you could order with the Sierra Grande, which was the GMC equivalent of the Silverado.

The GMC version was called Heavy Half. They had a sticker that read "Heavy Half" in place of the "Big Ten" sticker use on the Chevrolets. Both of those were RPO code F44. That option was available with any box configuration, IE, long or short bed and including the step sides. I currently own a '78 Chevy Custom Deluxe short step side that is has the F44 Big Ten option. The GMC "Gentleman Jim'' and the GMC "Beau James" were limited edition appearance package options only available in 1975. Those options could have possibly come standard with the RPO code F44, but I'm not definite on that.

You can keep from hitting the glass with the spray by spraying the cloth then wipe the dash instead of spraying the cloth. Also noticed looks like you were using a microfiber for that. It works better if you use a cloth that doesn’t absorb as much for that use such as a old t-shirt.

I really appreciate the low key//relaxed approach you take when adversity seems to hunt you down or you hunt it down. Good example to your wife and kids and those watching on this here “i telephone”! Thanks., I happen to be going through a season in life when the laid back approach works a lot better than screaming and yelling. Thanks for your videos.

Sitting here layed up with a foot problem, so watching some of your earlier work. Noticed the oil on the bottom of the doors on the inside. Thats actually why that truck is rust free. My uncle mixes up oil and diesel fuel and sprays the inside of the doors with it. That way they don't rust from the inside out. Diesel fuel just makes it, so you can spray it. Love the channel.

Only way to keep the gunk off your windshield is to spray only the towel to clean the dash. Then use a magic eraser on the windshield to get any overspray off. Love your content feller!

I spray and clean the dash 1st and then handle the windshield overspray when I clean the windshield. I usually go top down of course but I actually do have method to some of my madness.

This one went away for bigger and better projects. It is a beauty. I’m pretty sure I just saw this one on the road a few days ago. Can’t remember where exactly. I travel all over the Midwest but, I recognized it soon as I saw it.

That is a beautiful pickup!!! I had (purchased new) a 72, 73, 76 and 77 Chevy pickups. I loved them all, then started buying Chevy vans and SUVs. The last GM product I bought was a 2009 GMC Acadia. I loved it for about a year, then everything bad started happening to it and I haven't owned another GM product since. GM would not honor the warranty, and I went all the way to the top trying to get help. I'm driving Ram trucks now and have been ever since the Acadia, and I love them. Great job Derek!!!

That truck is a rare find in this day and age. As an auto glass tech in the mid 80s to early 90s, I am reminded as to how many windshield and door and vent glass I put in these old trucks, not to mention, rear sliders. No way you'll find another in that kind of shape nowadays. Personally, I would have kept it, but I know a guy needs to turn a profit. Beautiful rig.

I have a 73 GMC 3/4 ton, with a 292. No power steering, no power brakes, 3 speed on the column, and I love it, and REFUSE to get rid of it. I am adding factory air, (I had never heard of Vintage Air), but after starting that project, wished I hadn't, as the firewall is different, so I had to have my bother do the welding, (I don't know how to weld). I have also added dual carbs and headers with dual exhausts.

Derek: I love these square bodies! Had a 1974 metallic orange camper special! Another vehicle I wrenched on , as I told you about my 67 Pontiac Fire- chicken! I touched every bolt on that truck rebuilt every thing on that truck! Was able to get a camper shell that had all the windows blown out of it, with no rear opening. I was working at a body shop at the time was able to do all the work on it there, it was one of my perks! The other body man and I were life long friends with the owner and his extended family, we were all like minded people! And all part of the extended family it was a great situation! I ended having to get a new big block , long block crate engine from our Chevy Jobber, dealership that we purchased all our parts through back in the day which was around 1980, it cost me $2,400.00 . About a year previous it needed a new trans so it was all pretty fresh! Had it for years till I pretty near wore out! We also was able to purchase a used 19 ft travel trailer that we were able to fix up! Wore that out ! We all started an off road club called So-Cal off road , we had a blast raising three daughters it was about the time when Honda had come out with the three wheelers , then the quads we wore everything out! Lots of maintenance but a great time a lot of kids don’t know what they are missing today stuck in the house with virtual game playing so I enjoy watching you work on these vehicles and doing it with your family! It’s a good thing for Fellers and Fellet’s to do with their family’s! Keep up the good work ! Regards From a retired ol wrencher, Mad Mike S.
