Apartheid has been gone for 30 years now effectively. I see plenty of black ppl in their parlament, I dont see this as a "white man" or segregation problem anymore. Even tho - I believe this kind of riots will be sparking more renewed segregation with places behind strong walls and machine gun turrets like in those post apocalyptic movies very very soon.

There are more than 10 times as many private security officers in South Africa as there are police, private security is often better trained, better paid, better motivated, more trusted and occasionally better armed than police, usually have high membership from the local community, better and more sophisticated PR machines, lower corruption, more modern and expensive tech and better community support. Of course they are more professional; it's far harder to get a job with a private security firm than the police given unemployment rates and the nature of government service culture and far easier to set arbitrary high standards for conduct of private contractors and hold them accountable. Any private guard worth hiring probably has a dozen certifications from different independent certification authorities and possibly a university degree if they have a higher rank, police probably have a high school diploma and a police college certificate.

@TheKnowledgeMan101
@TheKnowledgeMan101 20 күн бұрын
It may be better for the White Afrikaaners but not for the majority of the population. Also its a lot better to take care of a few million people at the expense of the majority because you have a massive labour force, you only really have to care for the small minority and its alot easier to care for the minority than the majority. Also, while there is some personal responsibility at play, the problems are also caused by Apartheid due to its after effects. You can't just say the after effects don't exist just because Apartheid ended

@Elijah Newton the violence is about economics. any country with so many people unemployed is a ticking bomb people don't wait in their homes until they starve. the fact that the average white in sudafrica is richer than the average black is generational wealth mostly but not the main point. a poor person will feel resentment of a wealthier one no matter the race or place but when you have you necessities covered that resentment is just mild but if you cant get medicine or food it explodes. i only make 280 USD a month in Argentina but I am not going to go looting even if I am mad about how our currency lost 90% of its value in 6 years... now if I were to lose my job and couldn't find one in half a year and there was not gov help i would need to resort to things like this to survive i wouldn't like it but that is how things are. ofc that cant happen here getting a job is rather easy(for MOST people) even with bad salaries so no reason for people to go to that extreme.(to don't get a job here you have to have some serious problem like alchoism or drugs or violent demeanor)

Well there is, but it only selectively applies, and they are more than okay with this. Most policemen/authority in these countries owe not only their livelihood, but the livelihood of their entire family to the government. If such a holy body orders action one may deem morally unjust, it’s either their own morals or their families livelihood one must sacrifice. For most, family usually tips the scale, even if that means they’d be resented for the very actions that they blindly believe will secure them.

I grew up in South Africa during the early eighties. True, the apartheid did cause segregation but the country had ORDER. The citiies were clean, we could walk around town safely with our parents and friends at night and the economic situation was flourishing! Everybody seems to have forgotten that, economically, South Africa had been shoulder to shoulder with the U.S back then. There were no water problems, no load shedding and black people who worked for the "oppressive white man" were fed, clothed and sheltered. What brought this beautiful country to it's current state was the greed for World domination, masked as a fight for democracy, and promises of a better life given to people who (still) have no leadership skills as well as no clue as to run the country. I mean... please, folks, it's been THREE DECADES since apartheid was abolished and look what they've done!

As a South African, I remember this time clearly. It was a shocking time for us all, not too long ago. My family member's friend lived in a house next to (on - as we say) the main road where the looting occurred at an 'upper class' suburban mall in KZN. She was extremely traumatized and fearful while sitting in her house at home while she could see the chaos and fire from her window. She prayed that her family would be left alone, she even hid her newborn baby in the ceiling at one point when groups of protesters passed her house, chanting violently with trollies of stolen goods. A few days later they traveled (escaped) to the western cape. They stayed at a quiet beach resort in a quiet town in wc, but couldn't enjoy it due to the trauma and nightmares. Sometimes, like every second year, things become very dark in South Africa. The world NEEDS to know what happens here. It becomes like a violent video game, and nobody is completely safe. I remember when this was happening, I was shocked that it wasn't on goodmorning America , all over BBC, and fellow South African Trevor Noah who then hosted the daily show, didn't even mention it once! That was truly shocking to me, instead, he made unrelated jokes about South Africa on his show at the VERY SAME TIME this was happening in SA. South Africa is beautiful! WC, Cape Town is beautiful. The garden route is beautiful... I just feel that foreigners should not come here and bring their money and boost our tourism, until the government does more to ensure our safety and the safety of visitors in our county. Many tourists get robbed, unfortunately a few murdered. I remember when their was an extreme violence against women spree in SA just 3/4 years ago, the government made many promises as we mourned the lives of slain woman and teenagers, but still they have not fulfilled their promises. As someone who has been a victim of SA's alarming statistics of violence against woman, I know first hand, they are not just statistics. A good school, a good neighbourhood and being an upstanding person - doesn't always protect you from criminals and predictors who are protected by an unjust and largely corrupt government and systemically sick communities. Thanks to Jesus, we are strong. Us woman of South Africa are strong, because we also have to be. Innocent, then shocked and traumatized, then strong. With many tears in between, but also looking back the road to stronger happened fast - just. Like. That. Sink or swim here in South Africa. I think our country must impose the death penalty on major and removal of a limb for petty crimes. It saddens my heart to say that, but my heart is more sad for the hundreds of woman assaulted daily and people (many innocent children) murdered every week in South Africa. There will only be one or two examples, then people will stop. I don't agree with MANY of the UAE policies but one thing is for sure - the citizens are safe in their houses, at the mall, at the parks. It just takes one or two examples and then people stop, first they stop due to fear of punishment and overtime people enjoy the comfort of a safer community, even the former criminals enjoy knowing their wives and little children will grow up safe - protected from crime retaliation. The government made an example of people who said racial slurs by imprisoning a few, now that has stopped to a large extent. Same should be the case with violence. I pray for this nation. God bless you all. Thanks Vice for the coverage.

BUT if the gov would have stayed under there control the whole country would have been better off. They would have continued pushing it forward economically. This is what happens when you hand a country over to a majority uneducated society. Its not just SA, many places are just not ready for that level of freedom that fast culturally. @@junioradult6219 Ahh, so the whole separate but equal thing. Again, apartheid and social responsibility is the problem. Also, practically speaking, you cannot stop millions of black people for demanding their freedom and maybe things wouldn't be so shitty if Apartheid never happened. Also, how about just promoting people based on merit, getting rid of corruption, and uplifting the poor rather than continuing to segregate people. And they need to figure out a solution based on these situations because the whites in South Africa have caused this problem and they should have the responsibility for helping black people uplift themselves. And the blacks in South Africa need to accept responsibility and be more educated. Also, there are plenty of black people who went to school and received education, it's just that they can't find any work due to the market oversaturation and not having any jobs available. Also, alot of black people can't afford education because of wealth inequality, where the white minority and a small amount of blacks hold all the money while the black majority doesn't. Please just accept that Apartheid is partially responsible for this and white people need to deal with the consequences of their actions, you reaped what you sowed.

@@junioradult6219 Ah yes, the whole separate but equal thing. Its so funny how the people are complaining about this because you cannot stop millions of people of wanting equality and the white people in South Africa need to deal with the consequences just like the rest of the country of the after effects of Apartheid. Also, there are plenty of blacks that are educated, its just that they can't find a job due to market saturation and lack of jobs, corruption is also a problem, promoting incompetence over merit. Also these people can't afford education because they don't have any wealth to send their kids to school because of again apartheid due to wealth inequality Get rid of the ANC, learn to deal with the problems that are inevitable and how about just uplifting the poor since the majority of whites and a small portion of blacks people own most of the wealth.

@@junioradult6219 for some reason KZfaq keeps deleting my messages. Its already too late to change the past. And the people who were so privileged under the old system needs to stop being so whiny all the time because they are the ones who inherited this problem due to their ancestors system. They and a small black minority own all the wealth and the rest of the country does not. The reality of it is, is that you can't stop millions of people from stopping their oppression and you need to adapt quickly to the situation. How about just stop being so damn whiny and just deal with the problem that the old system has created. Also, there are plenty of black people who graduated from education, it's just that they can't find a job. Also, these people can't afford education because of wealth inequality.
