Even before the virus, paramedics are under-appreciated. Hopefully this pandemic shows the public the importance of their job and treats them better.

Man, people treat us like taxis in SoCal. They believe just because they're going to the hospital by ambulance they're entitled to a bed. The saving grace is, most of the time, insurance won't cover "non-emergent" Ambulance transports so they basically got a $1800+ taxi ride.

ike eki are doctors and nurses and cops paid enough ? I understand maybe like other industries getting a hazard bonus ; but imo if you’re a doctor or cop this is exactly what u signed up for . We are praising them not saying we shouldn’t . But literally in nursing school and med school they go over pandemics and infectious disease outbreaks. I can understand an emt being it can be an average joe more so than a doctor . But nurses doctors cops like this is your job guys

Hope everyone knows how little EMTs at private companies make. My buddy is an EMT for a private company in Tacoma WA and only make $14/hour working 24 hour shifts and risking his life. These men and woman all get PTSD from the horrible things they see and put them selves in danger every day. We should be outraged that people who save lives and work a highly skilled profession get payed so little!

I'm in an EMT class and I was supposed to get my license this month. With all in person classes being suspended I am now getting a TEMPORARY license next month rather than a full one. Not only that, I began speaking with people who work with the company in which my class is through, I was told that an EMT showing symptoms will quarantine themselves (since you dont want to bring it home to your family) and theres no hazard pay, they dont pay for your coronavirus test, and they dont pay for whatever lodging you'd need to make sure to not take the virus home to your family. I went into this hoping I can save people and make a difference, but I'm not exactly sure anymore. How can I protect people when I cant protect myself? I'm shocked that this is happening.
@kayanne1692

It totally depends on the municipality or ambulance service you're employed with. Medstar pays/paid the wages of the employees who were quarantined or came down with COVID19. They also administered testing at multiple stations.

I'm currently finishing up my EMT class. There's so much uncertainty going on right now. People have dropped the class because they don't think it's worth it anymore, we're constantly being told there's no guarantee we'll even be allowed to take the NREMT by the end of the class, and all our ride along/hospital hours were all cancelled beforehand. I was very excited for this class but now that it's coming to an end this class, I'm just getting anxiety about going through with it.

I started working as an EMT earlier this year when everything was developing in a high volume area, then I was thrown out in the field as shit hit the fan. So many people freak out with just thinking of going to the hospital now. You don’t even know if someone is symptomatic until you perform your assessment. Getting fogged at 1am is an interesting experience.

If you are Vegetarian or Vegan please get Vitamine D also D3 is more specific can be better if you are not a meat-eater. It is so important for your immune system and with everything I have read in multiple journals. Please understand this is a longitudinal study by the Irish Medical Journal URL up after that the fact that Nordic countries have an adapted diet with a high vitamin D diet due to low amounts of sunlight. This is why people in sunny areas are getting the worst infections in Europe. Spain, Italy, France, and unknowing England. Everything in the USA is enriched with vitamin D. (Milk, OJ, Cereal, and many other foods) Their diets need much less vitamin D naturally. The other unrealized problem is that maximum Vitamin D from UV-B a day is much less than necessary for our immune system. Humans look to only need 15-30 min of sunlight on their epidermis a day for a maximum amount of vitamin D from UV-B that can be absorbed. Thus anything else needs to be supplemented to help support/defend our immune system must be through our diet. We have seen that 400 IU of Vitamine D that is at bioavailable levels that would be about 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 or D in terms of just not food supplements. (This is from memory do not hold this against me from another study about the IU's needed for bioavailability). This is my opinion as a biochemist, this is some info I have built my perspective from and other journals. imj.ie/optimisation-of-vitamin-d-status-for-enhanced-immuno-protection-against-covid-19/

Do you realize the media has manipulated you and the general population into an irrational fear response? There were millions of deaths predicted in the US. In reality there have been thousands, mostly elderly people who were gong to die from the regular flu. The death percentage was supposed to be 7%, in reality it is 0.1%. The real inevitable fact of a great depression if the lockdown continues will kill far more people than the virus. People will starve, everything you know will be gone. The way to go is to isolate the vulnerable, get herd immunity and continue life as normal, but with social distancing. Sweden is almost at herd mmunity, and our economy isn't destroyed. The people who've died here are the elderly on the brink of death anyway. There is no reason to be afraid to the point you ruin your economy. The democrats have made it a political issue, using the US economy as a pawn I their sick game of chess to win the election by mail in voting.

@@Son.of.Saturn its because of preventative measures and the lock downs that have been initiated that the numbers have been lower than expected, which is a good sign.
