Hi Vicki, hi Geoff! Greetings from Canada. I just wanted to let you both know that our 11-month-old daughter (Arlo) will only take daytime naps if she falls asleep to an All The Stations videos. We started showing her your videos because she showed a very early affection for trains, especially commuter trains. Now she gets excited whenever she hears your voices. She especially loves Vicki explores, and wants to watch your castle videos over and over. Most adorably, she gets especially excited whenever Vicki gets excited over a Pacer. Don't have the heart to break the news to her yet.

On my doorstep! Did you know that Richborough Port was the site of the UK’s first train ferry, shipping locomotives out to France in WW1? It had quite an extensive railway system there.

We are taught about Julius Caesar's 'invasion' in 55BC. That turns out to have been more of a reconnaissance in strength. He arrived a couple more times in the following years, but a true invasion didn't happen until AD43. It was Claudius who really got the job done, and that was when Richborough was developed as the main port of entry.

Lovely to see you back Vicki :) Might I recommend Ribchester near Clitheroe to you. It is nowhere near as grand but is where they sent regiments for some proper R & R and has a wonderful atmosphere as if the Romans never left. The tiny museum is great and there is a granary and a bath house.

Interesting video, thanks. Surprised you didn't mention the Wantsum Channel which Richborough Fort guarded at is southern end (Reculver stood at the northern entrance). The channel, before it silted up, made the Isle of Thanet and was an important short cut for shipping from the south to enter the Thames Estuary.

I'm curious about the map shown after 4:00. How old is it? Of course, in Roman times Watling Street passed through Verulamium - the town/city of St Albans, on the hill alongside Verulamium, was created quite a while afterwards - but, more puzzling, I saw that Berkhamsted was spelled "Berkhampsted" on the map: I didn't know there was that older, different spelling of the town, which made me wonder how old the map was.
