I heard Rachael say in an interview that her last look at Larry was her saying "It is finished". I found this incredibly fitting because her message concerning Larry was the same sentiment as what Christ said before His "it is finished", which was "forgive them Father, they know not what they do". That's what I heard from her "I pity you" statements to Larry. To put yourself through the guilt and shame and anguish of sexual abuse therapy to the point that you yourself feel empathy towards your abuser for what they robbed themselves of, even after all they robbed you of, is incredibly moving. Rachael took all the power back in her statement. I'm surprised the earth itself didn't shake after her statement to be quite honest. Rachael you'll probably never read this but as a fellow survivor of abuse I am proud of you beyond what I can say. Your wisdom and compassion are unparalleled. You carried your cross with grace and dignity. And you took back everything that was stolen from you and shared it with every other victim of Larry. God bless you for your sacrifice.

Never have I seen anyone address the court, it’s constituents, the defendant, accessories and accomplices So thoroughly and with so much just and righteous conviction. What an extraordinarily Intelligent, powerful, genuine, wise and loving human being! This is a woman that all young women would benefit to model after. With each and every testimony and address I have heard from all of these indescribably precious and strong women there have been things I wished they would say. Over and over because they made so many important points and brought up profound truths, I found myself frustrated because they would be so close to making a point that I felt truly needed to be spoken, yet never quite find those words.… But this woman did not miss a beat! I couldn’t wait to hear someone finally refer to the scripture that speaks of the impending judgement and punishment of anyone who harms one of God’s little children. She articulated this truth with perfection. Divine perfection! Now the only thing left to mention… And it is so important...And I have not heard address as of yet is a specific point about not taking restitution. I thoughtThe judge might bring it up this time but she didn’t quite get there. I wish the judge would advise he’s young women who are declining restitution that if they are concerned about taking money that belongs to his daughters they should still go ahead and except it because it is better that they allocate the money to whoever they want, then to trust it to anyone in this man’s family. That may not be fair to his family members, however ultimately it is the most fair and to err on the side of caution. I get nervous every time they don’t take restitution. At least this time the judge mentioned that this money could be used to help one of the sisters who are not in a good financial position. Nothing wrong with giving the money back to his children and no one better to make that move then one of the victims. It Would speak volumes And open opportunities to share the true and pure love of Christ with his family. His children. They could find willing to and such an out reach of love. I am tremendously moved by this young woman!

I loved how in that way the judge recognized Rachael’s generous spirit. Yes that is EXACTLY what I love so much about Rachael’s impact statement: there are many moments where the survivors are just on the cusp on saying something that really needs to be said but they just lack the words. Let me be clear though, I do not judge it: Though I have not been victimized in the specific way these women were, I have traumas of my own from a toxic family member. I am a 23 year old woman who has just begun to access suppressed memories and emotions of things that happened to me when I was 14 years old. I watched these women and wondered if it was a source of personal weakness that I am not ready yet to confront that family member. My mom said when it’s facing a family member, that poses a different set of challenges. She started to casually wonder if I my counselor from when I was 16 had done a better job, maybe I would have been able to discuss it then. That shook me up and I asked if people are able to talk about this stuff a lot sooner than me and have I with my timidity blocked myself from being able to heal years ago. I said “I hate to imagine maybe people talk about this stuff sooner than me and would be further down the pipe than I am.” She said “no, people wait a lot longer than you have to discuss these things.” But back to Rachael: she does so brilliantly because she leaves no stone unturned. She has gotten to the root of a lot of issues by going through some really exacting questions... which had rather damning answers. I really think it was freeing for the victims to talk, but she also presented evidence to the court in case the fragmented answers of those questions (How long has this been going on? How did this get allowed to go on? What started and perpetuated this cycle? Why did no one listen and how did it take so long for the reports to get handled correctly & taken to trial? The others are harder to identify) but she adds ethos to the claims of other women by including her own research. She lists excruciating detail and speaks in a way on behalf of victims like Larissa Boyce who she found out about because she examined the situation after a remarkable flash of intuition (I could tell he had done this before and he had developed methods of grooming) for a teen girl. There is evil going on her not just on a personal level: she points out with crystal clarity it was even bigger than that. Had Larissa’s report been handled properly, maybe none of those women would have had to be there. That’s the real tragedy in this: she reported the year I was born. Emma Ann Miller was not even born until 6 years after Larissa’s report. She is graceful but she does not beat around the bush. She holds things up in a way where you have to examine the world and the way you live and gives no out: she asked “How much is a little girl worth?” She said “if you need an outside institution to tell you that you need to take seriously the reports of sexual assault from your athletes, then you are in no position to be working with children”.

Mallory Newcomb I agree with everything you said… Also I just want to mention that there’s no way around the fact that each and every person who suffers as a victim of any level of sexual abuse… Well they each have their own set of circumstances in their family. They each have their own make up of personality and character… I guess what I’m saying is that the circumstances are so dynamic that I hope no one is hard on themselves for however long it took them to come forward. There’s just no way anyone can judge a victim in this situation because no one except them knows what they were up against.. Like you said… Some don’t even remember or realize that it happened to them until later. That’s me. I took responsibility for what happened to me all of my childhood just because the one who did it to me was only 3+ years older than me so I thought it was my fault since we were kids. I realize later that I would’ve never asked for anything that he did to me. All I wanted to do was play and have fun and be kids but he kept bringing it around to sexual things every time. I hated it. I guess I felt responsible because I didn’t tell on him. To this day I have no idea why I didn’t tell except for that I felt like I caused it somehow. So ashamed.😔 Looking back at his life… He’s passed away now… I honestly can’t think of anyone who would’ve ever touched him and sexually abused him. His life was very sheltered and he was never left alone with anyone. His mother was absolutely not that type of person at all. She was more of the type of person that didn’t believe that kind of stuff could ever even happen. All she ever did was work hard and make a great life for him. A single mom. So what could’ve happened to him? Maybe she had a boyfriend that I was too little to remember. In all my memory I don’t ever remember her having a man anywhere near her home. Once the father cheated on her and left when my cousin was a baby...I’m pretty sure she gave up on men all together. Or maybe he just randomly turned out to be an abuser. Anything is possible I guess. Some people who are abused grow up to be abusers and then there are people like you and I who fight for and advocate for victims.
@MalloryNewcomb

brendametube What a story! Usually it does take a long time to regain all this memory... COVID didn’t help in my case but having such a productive counselor added to things. Even more has come back since I wrote that two months ago. That family member also didn’t believe me when I revealed I was harassed earlier that school year. That in a way adds to the guilt that much further. It could be that the abuser said something that made you fear the consequences of speaking up. Usually sexual abuse involves a grab for power and control. It could be that you experienced involuntary physical responses that you felt disturbed by and wished to never discuss... as children I think when we don’t understand something, we may not expect adults to understand. It’s hard to talk about what you don’t know. You are not responsible for what happened to you. It is curious that this seemed to be out of the blue because usually abusers have been victimized sexually before they become abused. But you probably already know If anything, life has a way of bringing this stuff forward even if you want to forget. I did for so long. I just didn’t understand and my mother said I didn’t have to talk about it. The problem was I had already internalized so much from that other family member. But the day of reckoning was going to come eventually. It is common for trauma reactions and memories to resurface unbidden in major milestone moments like your first time in a consensual sexual relationship or invasive medical procedures ... sometimes it’s just a set of words that sound eerily familiar and you’re like why do those words bother me so much. Those things happened for me: a life milestone and a verbal trigger unleashed a tide a memories... that like I said, life has a funny way of bringing up this stuff when you’re finally ready to deal with it. Now I understand my situation and despite being a very intelligent individual that asks a lot of questions until she can find some answers... even at 23, I’m still kind of struggling to wrap my head around it all. My brother had a great outlook when I told him all this: “be kind to yourself, you were probably doing the best you could to handle a really bad situation”. My goal is to make a lasting agreement with that statement.

It never even needed to be a debate whether this “treatment” was real or not (not) bc had any LE asked anyone (upon them finding out of course. Michigan state had reports they covered up but the police didn’t find out until later) “did he wear gloves?” They could have come to the conclusion this had no medical validity far far sooner. I used to think the part about sending a message to other predators was entirely general, but if you look into the details of these cases, you’ll find that Larry Nassar did not work alone. I believe Rachel was pulling a great double entendre with that bc it was general but she was also sending a message to Larry’s partner, John Geddert…. Who ended his own life, when charged, which is why he is not as famous.

That that is so true honestly for me is I have not to speak up for me I did not have a voice phone for me is that as a person with down syndrome for me was so hard for me really I was abuse torture for years and that’s hard for me and honestly I was abused by Larry Nassar he did that to me he actually did that to me

2 billion dollars anyways. She is an Attorney, so she knows what to say. Supposedly parents where 2 feet away for 30 years, hundreds or thousands of times while the abuse was going on and they couldn't figure out what was going on. No funny expression or any clue? I don't buy it sorry. It don't make any sense. They couldn't tell anything 2 feet away yet the FBI and everyone else they are suing should have been able to figure it out from afar. She had friends that performed Pelvic floor therapy. Why didn't she go to them instead of Nassar whom she was suspicious of? She is an attorney that represented numerous of the victims. Attorneys made hundreds of millions off of this case. How much did she make off of this case? There are 30 million young people into sports in the US. About 40 million females have pelvic floor issues. Hundreds or thousands of doctors do pelvic floor therapy regularly in the US. To figure out whom the perverts are you would have to be able to read minds. How could anyone do this type therapy and not have it have an affect on the doctor doing this. Who is overseeing this anyways? This case is weird and was done in the me too/ believe all accusers era and has several holes in it.

How do you know what is going on in the minds of all the other doctors that do pelvic floor therapy? You would have to be able to read minds to really know. It needs banned for minors under 18.
