pardon? Anyway if I had felt the necessity to take it ''very seriously'', as you say, I would have let you notice that ''we all hear mistakes'' it's completely wrong. We don't have the same ears by any means. To put it simply even though is reductive (because of genetic), musicians, simple music listeners and non-listeners don't have the same ears ---> not everyone notices musical mistakes. Have a good one, peace : )

What is so great about Borge is that you don't have to know anything about classical music to get the jokes, but if you do, they are more enjoyable. He played to both audiences. One of the best performers ever, in any genre.

I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand WHY the joke is funny. Makes me laugh, but I don't know why. Could you enlighten me?
@sixmillionsilencedaccounts35173 жыл бұрын
Classically trained musicians are so much used to play from sheets that they sometimes don't care or even think about what they actually play.
@boundary25803 жыл бұрын
@@Odthean the joke first is that he is probably using a pirated copy of music (hence the use of “Joey” Strauss instead of “Johann” Strauss). The second is that he was playing the right notes, but the chords had all the notes rearranged from their normal order (the bass was switched to the top line and vice versa).

It reminds me of Jára Cimrman, a fake Czech artist. He was present at a Strauss' rehearsal and the four staccatos were played in different chord. Cimrman said: "Wouldn't the A-major be better, Mr. Strauss?" And Strauss find Cimrman's suggestion good and revised the score.

@jensraab29026 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's Blue Danube by Johann Strauss, jr. - you might also find it under its original German title "An der schönen blauen Donau". BTW, a variant spelling of the composer's name is Strauß which looks a bit like Straub to someone unfamiliar with this particular special character of the German language (which represents an "s" sound). Borge certainly was aware of this (he seems to have spoken German to quite a good degree) but apparently made fun of this by warping Johann Strauß into Joe Straub! ;-)

So we notice that the piano isn't tuned, and he clearly notices something's wrong. We think he's gonna try and retune the piano or do something to fix the problem. But, then he pulls out the sheet music. He simply thinks he's playing the wrong key, and he wasn't. It can be seen as either him being oblivious to the piano being out of tune or simply not caring. It's not his fault if the piano is out of tune, he just has to hit the right keys.
