I review and compare the Victor Thruster Ryuga Metallic against the original generation Thruster Ryuga. Both rackets were used by Lee Zii Jia who is incredibly powerful and this is a head heavy racket. The Thruster Ryuga Metallic is also the second Metallic racket by Victor after the Drive X 10 Metallic.

I'm an intermediate player, at best, and I recently tested the Ryuga Metallic 4U for 90mins of singles, swapping periodically with a Ryuga 2 (4U) and my own DriveX 7SP (4U) for comparison. I'm also familiar with the Yonex Astrox 88D Pro (2nd gen). You can immediately feel the head-weight of the Metallic compared to the Ryuga 2 and other racquets; the Ryuga 2 feels more balanced and, to me, quite similar to the 88D Pro. Yet in many ways I found the Metallic slightly easier to play with than the Ryuga 2, particularly with smashes and other power shots, as well as backcourt clears. Drives and net-play felt very 'direct', the shuttle bouncing off the Metallic with sharp and steady propulsion, although the Ryuga 2 provided more feedback (or feel) to the hand. The Metallic was surprisingly easy to manoeuvre given its weight and top-heavy balance, and many strokes required only wrist and forearm flex and not a lot of arm movement. Perhaps that's why I didn't feel much fatigue at the end of the session? My wrist/forearm/shoulder only felt a little more tired than usual (which is to say not very tired at all). Timing was pretty easy to adjust to (the frame is similar to my DriveX 7SP). I also found the Metallic easier to play with than my old trusty 3U Yonex Nanospeed 9000. Comparing the Metallic to the Ryuga 2, the latter was quicker to the shuttle and control was also better; certainly it would suit doubles better than the Metallic. But for singles I felt a little ambivalent about the Ryuga 2, as it did everything very well but nothing exceedingly so! It's a 'neutral' power racquet, if you like, but I just didn't warm to it. Needless to say I bought the Metallic 4U with VBS-66 Nano strings at 27lbs. For reference, I'm 6'2", average wrist/arm strength, fairly large hands and long fingers, and the Metallic seems to naturally suit my play. I recently talked to two advanced players at my badminton hall (both of them coaches): one bought the Ryuga 2, the other the Metallic. A quick word on my DriveX 7SP, which Victor released last year. There's very little info and feedback about this racquet on the internet, but it's a brilliant all-rounder combining balance with power, and it's light enough for doubles. I chose the 7SP after comparing a number of current Victor models-including the DriveX 6SP and Drive 9X: the former was a little too light and flexy for singles (but excellent for doubles!) and the latter felt a little too stiff. In my opinion the sweet-spot in this range is the 7SP (I've not tried the new Drive 10X Metallic).

Another great video again CK! I personally have 4U RyugaMT and measured it at about 95kg/cm2 after strung and gripped. My experience with Victor rackets is their declared spec and their deviation is rather huge. You probably got some "off-spec" racket which is head heavier than usual.

Hey CK, I've been following your videos for a long time now, keep up the good work! I am looking to buy a new racket soon and want to replace my Oliver dual-tec that I got on sale for 30€. I find it lacking in power and a little too flexible. I wanted to ask you if you could make a video comparing the 100, 88, and 99 series game and tour versions (similar to the Play series and Ultimate Power Racket comparison a while back). It is hard to find reviews and comparisons in the mid-range and I think this would help a lot of people other than me as well.

do you feel the ryuga metallic is more stable than ryuga TD after doing a smash (i mean, according to some players compliment that after doing a smash the ryuga TD is very shake which make it lost it's precision, especially when you do consistent smashes) is it that shake or it just insignificant shake that nearly doesn't affect your precision's shot

3rd time posting this comment. Could you maybe make a video about racquet features? how does one feature impacts the performance of the racquet. I.E. recessed half of the way on the racquet head, what does it do, recessed top and bottom, what does it do, long and short shafts what does it do, smaller and normal and big racquet head, what does it do, etc etc. It'll be much appreciated as I always hear this features mention in your videos but always thought, "but why and how does it affect it" and i'm sure there is someone out there thinking the same. Cheers
@JohnDoe-ei5gp
@JohnDoe-ei5gp 8 ай бұрын
it's pretty simple and he mentioned it quite a few times already - Recessed parts of the frame will be stiffer ( racket head still bend, just not as visible as the shaft ), and with slimmer profile = more aerodynamic = faster/easier swing speed, non recessed parts are the opposite, usually placed at the T joint to make the bottom bend, and could provide more power due to the big boxy frame - Long shaft = more flex, less stiff, opposite of short shaft. Some manufacturers use stiffer materials ($$$) or they "cheat" by making the shaft shorter to achieve stiffness. - Smaller head = less resistance, but smaller head will mean small hit zone and harder to hit the shuttle perfectly. Generally anything smaller while keeping the same mass will make the racket more aerodynamic and stiffer due to higher density

I just tried playing with the Ryuga 2 Pro (4U) - after a few days of playing, I honestly prefer the Ryuga 1 over the Ryuga 2 Pro. I have not tried the normal Ryuga 2, but I still feel that the Ryuga 2 Pro's shaft is still soft/light and doesn't give me as many solid swings compared to the Ryuga 1. I now get the "soft" feeling that people reviewed about the original Ryuga 2, it's WES 2.0 allows me to drive shuttles at the front rear court and gives my smashes quick speed - but it lacks weight and power in the shuttle during smashes. Definitely, it's a more optimized racket for singles/doubles for its lighter weight and softer shaft (despite Victor stating its shaft is stiffer compared to the original Ryuga 2) - but I would personally go back to the Ryuga 1 for its original solid + crisp swing and feel in the shaft and the overall balanced weight of the racket with a wooden handle.

@@jincofficial personally, it looks like the Ryuga 1 is much more for singles and the Ryuga 2 Pro is something design for both single & doubles. The Ryuga 2 3u feels lile a 4u =))) pretty light imo with a fairly stiff shaft which - for me - makes it much more suitable for doubles.

TD is pretty much the “intermediate” level for the Ryugas - meaning the materials used in TD is softer, hence allowing a intermediate player to use the racket better. However, it won’t bring out the same power and initial design from the original Ryuga 1/2, as the TD materials are softer.

Looks better than original Ryuga, but heard its even more stiffer and head heavy. To the point 4U feels more like a 3U.... definitely not an easy for doubles play.

Yupp, have both the ryuga 1 and ryuga mwttalic and im telling you ryuga metallic feels more heavy than the ryuga 1. And i kinda prefer the original ryuga compared to ryuga metallic since i can generate more power on ryuga 1 compared to ryuga metallic. Both are 3u btw

@@kimjuztin3suar3z67 i agree the Ryuga1 is more whippy and faster. the RyugaM is much stiffer so u do need to adjust the technique a bit with a longer backswing to create power. but once ur used to it then its a lovely racket. its handy to keep ur Ryuga1 around tho ;)
@kimjuztin3suar3z67
@kimjuztin3suar3z67 8 ай бұрын
@@michelmc4645 exactly, i think im more used to the whipping feel on the ryuga 1 and i feel more movement on the shaft on the ryuga 1 compared to ryuga metallic. And in my opinion it has the same stiffness as the voltric z force ii. Which is super stiff and it is the stiffess racket if used.
@michelmc4645
@michelmc4645 8 ай бұрын
@@kimjuztin3suar3z67 stiffness wise de ZF2 is definately stiffer. the RyugaM is slightly softer than the 100zz. ZF2 is stiffer than then the 100zz but it has the power to back up or compensate for the stiffness. which the 100zz doesnt. The RyugaM is still slightly below these two but it is creeping up to the 100zz but not quite there yet. i feel that the RyugaM just hit the limit in terms of stiffness. perhaps slightly over. but still more smooth and better balanced in all the elements compared to the ZF2 and 100zz
@michelmc4645
@michelmc4645 8 ай бұрын
@@kimjuztin3suar3z67 i did enjoy the ZF2 very much but it gave me a long term muscle pain in my forearm XD the smashing feel was too nice. and the bang was so loud. new rackets are more muted when u hit it hard. when u tried newer rackets. you dont want do deal with the stiffness of the ZF2 anymore.
