Victor Valdés was never the best goalkeeper in the world, and he sure made a lot of errors during his career. But he was probably the best goalkeeper Barcelona could have asked for during the team's greatest ever period. Being a La Masia product, Victor knew the club's philosophy inside and out, and he was bleeding in Blaugrana colors. His feet were superb and he had great reflexes as well, and winning the Zamora trophy five times is not a bad record. A loyal servant and a Barcelona legend, Victor Valdés.

I only remember 4-5 big mistakes in 12 seasons... and only in Spanish Super Cup of 2012 were important to lose a tittle. The problem is that success in Barça arrived so late in the XXI century an Casillas and other goalkeepers were glued in the national team, so he received less prestige than he deserved. In my opinion he was very underrated. For Barça style for exemple he could be better than Buffon or Casillas, even those were better in some habilites but overall for Barça goalkeeper I think they weren't. Top 10 goalkeeper during all his career and Top 5 during 2004-09.

His feet? They sucked. The board should have swallows their pride and signed someone else. None of his saves in this video were good shots. It’s not a good save, it’s an ass shot.

I really liked him. He was always underrated and had the Barca-Spirit. He wasn't World Class, but he was a very very good goalkeeper. Nice to see that he's back at Barca as youth trainer. 👍

The only reason he wasn’t famous like Casillas is because Casillas was just slightly better and was the spain national gk valdes as the 2nd at times. Basically valdes was a legend behind another legend

Extremely underrated, He was awesome, made many mistakes but his leadership, hearth, abilities and love for playing with Barça made him the best goalkeeper of Barça's history.

Underrated. His errors got exaggerated but his risk-taking with the ball was a big part of why Barca was able to perfect the style they had especially under Guardiola. And not only that, he was an excellent 1-v-1 keeper with great reflex saves and always quick off his line to protect the space behind the high defense line. The perfect Barcelona keeper, in other words.

@@zainshuttari6737 Ter Stegen is a shot stopper. That's why his best seasons were under Valverde. We were low defensive line defence but when we got caught in counters Ter Stegen got exposed

many years ago around 2005 when i was still a school guy and trying out to play football professionally this guy here was the reason and my motivation to become a keeper, i remember kids or just adults having the likes of cech, buffon, iker, van der sar ,kahn ,coupet or any other great keeper in that time as their idol but i was the only one that was a VV fanboy, always thought he was a little bit crazy and had fantastic reflexes and especially good on 1 on 1's, maybe not the best when it came to dealing with crosses and long shots,ball handling but that didnt stop me from liking his sweeping keeper style, before neuer "invented" the sweeper keeper role it was actually Valdes the initial creator. Barca's best keeper and one of the most underrated keepers in world wide, its a shame that he gets disrespected or to put it on past tense, he was disrespected his whole career based on his mistakes, this man won multiple zamoras and has won the award of the best keeper in the la liga history but yet when you ask normal football fans almost nobody will mention him as one of the top keepers in the world. i ll always miss and cherish the great moments , that fking final vs arsenal was perhaps his best game in a barca shirt but no doubt there were many clasicos in which he single handedly kept us in game, even football legend thierry henry said in a interview some months ago that VV is super underrated and there were many games that ended up with huge scorelines but before those scorelines happened up untill those points the opposite teams that were attacking were denied the chance to open the scoreline and make the match very difficult, it was only after Valdes's saves that Barca around that time was able to take over the game and score multiple times.

Baker Taha we can ability wise. Ter Stegen is far better. But Valdes is a legend because he won so many things and was with us for so many years. Ter Stegen is better mate whether you accept it or not. Ter Stegen is in the fight for the best goalkeeper with De Gea

I Still remember the agony I felt when he got injured during his last season and we were left with Pinto. I'm convinced that we would have won la liga that year and maybe even la copa del rey if had been healthy. Shame we couldn't send him a proper send off. Hopefully someday soon we can give him a proper send off alongside Dani Alves and Carles Puyol.

I remember how well he played during his last season, but he said he still wasn't going to renew his contract despite being offered one. Unfortunate that he had to end much of that season due to a bad knee injury...

Lol you mean Valdes that won 5 Zamora trophies. Clean sheets don't mean much when you have a good defence, which we did have during Valdes' time. As a matter of fact the best GK in the world can concede so many times if the defense isn't good enough.

Mikko Salmela Just shows he was Very loyal..and a decent shot stopper..goal keepers in Barcelona Don't have a whole lot to do.. very seldom do teams break Barcelona's frontline and mid field barrier... it's about saving when called upon and make no mistakes..the guy made a lot of mistakes and that too Very often..

Jaydeep Bose exactly. The situation was a lot better back then, we dominated in every game, our GKs were almost always ball watching. Can't say the same for now, Ter Stegen, Cillesen have faced more shots on average

TheFNProductionz Yeah true, but saying that it is still lesser compared to how much other good team keepers have to face like a de Gea or a handanovic.. Barcelona still always have 55 to 65 Percent possession on an average..
