Rudy is DPOY is because Wemby is a rookie and Rudy is not simple as that. Bird didnt won MVP as a rookie despite leading the celtics to the best record in the NBA. Kareem might of had slightly better stats but their is no logical reasoning to not give a rookie MVP that was the leader of their team and led them to the number 1 seed in the NBA. I dont know what a rookie can possibly do to win MVP or DPOY even if their team is good they will overlook them because they are rookies.

Historically yes it had to go to Gobert, but all I’m saying is that if you gave Wemby the supporting cast of defenders that Gobert got....he might win it unanimously 😂 Ima leave this here for everyone replying the exact same thing "Rudy won in Utah with lazy defenders" What were the on/off numbers defensively on those Utah teams? Because for the spurs it was #2 defense with Wemby on, and #28 with him off. You can call the Utah defenders trash and lazy, but they never were so bad that it tanked the rating enough to matter outside of one year. Not to mention Wemby plays just under 30 minutes a game while Rudy routinely played 32-35 minutes (which if you want to argue that's why he didn't win then it's perfectly fair). You know the year that something similar happened to Gobert? 2022, when they were top 4 with Gobert on the court and last without him. And he got screwed over that year too because Marcus smart was playing with Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Tatum, Rob Williams, Horford, etc. The voters were wrong then, and they're wrong this year too. The best and most impactful individual defender was clearly Wembanyama

Jaden McDaniels will make All Defensive teams this year. Naz Reid won 6th man of the year and a big part of that is because of his defense. KAT was surprisingly impressive. Ant is a good defender. The team is elite defensively even without Rudy. Rudy Gobert is just the icing on the cake

I'm not a stat man either. I hate when people use stats. But clearly Wemby has put up better numbers than Rudy ever has. When the difference is that glaringly higher you can't just overlook that. If wemby had 2.0 blocks per game, Gobert had 1.8, Wemby had 1.2 steals, and Gobert has 1.1 and their defensive rating was 108 for Gobert and Wemby was like 110. I'd be like okay Gobert still is putting up similar numbers. He's on the best defensive team and is a consistent defender i'd be like alright Gobert clearly is a good defender and helps make his team good defenders. But Wemby putting up way better numbers Gobert has never reached. I don't see how you can overlook that. And dude is a ROOKIE. Let's be honest. He got snubbed. They don't want to give it to a rookie. Gobert is the safe pick. That's what this is. Gobert is the safe pick and people don't want to rock the boat.

Playoff intensity is a real thing, only with game planning you don't show during reg season. Since Game 1 Naz Reid has defended Jokic the best b/c of his build. Kenyon was right & wrong. Ben Wallace was the reason they won, Prince defense was top tier, that's why he was on Olympic team. But him saying he played the Pistons vs Rashad playing against them doesn't matter. Rudy has to get the award over a player who team only had 13wins. You would reward losing period

If you take Ben Wallace off that Pistons team they maybe wouldn’t have won a championship but they were all still great defenders around Ben Wallace, Rip Hamilton was a decent defender, Chancy Billups used to lock dudes up, Tayshon Prince was a GREAT defender & Rasheed Wallace was a good defender as well, Ben Wallace anchored the defense & was the most important piece the same with Gobert. It took me awhile to give Gobert his credit too but this year him getting the award is kinda undeniable & deserved in my opinion & I’ve never been a Wolves fan in my life before anybody thinks I’m just being bias

McCants was making a great point about Gobert anchoring the defense. The reason they held it down for one game is because Naz Reid anchored the defense better than anyone else expected. He doesn’t usually play that role when Rudy plays. Naz playing a great defensive game takes nothing away from what Rudy did for the season.

It's true tho. No matter how much you kiss-ups dislike it, Pop never made team above average or good. He could only make loaded teams into great... but at that point it's mainly the talented players that win. See Steve Kerr's comments when he coached the KD and Steph Warriors. He said he doesn't have to do much coaching, he just let's them play. Spurs have same number of wins this year as last year... and Pop had the #1 rookie on the team. So why he ain't get them further???

I see what McCants is saying.. basically the team is stacked with so many good defensive players so taking him out doesn’t necessarily hurt their defense…. Butttttt having them on the court stops Rudy from reaching his full potential defensively.. we don’t know what Rudy would look like in a system likes let’s say the spurs simply bc the opportunity never presented itself but if you put Wemby on the Wolves they are so stacked defensively that he wouldn’t have been able to average what he averaged on the spurs bc he wouldn’t need to work as hard… numbers don’t always tell everything.. similar to how Russell was a triple double god when the system worked for him, but will never be the same player on any other team… they gave it Rudy bc Rudy has shown us he can be this caliber of a defender on ANY team..
