It was easy to see him being successful in the league if you understand what they do in today's games. I don't say this after he played almost a full season. I said the same thing before this season even started. You cannot guard a 7'4" guy shooting 3s. It's just simple physics. When you think his shooting isn't good enough yet. You have to understand the elite scorers like Luka and Tatum are shooting 3s in mid to high 30 percentage only.

@@TheIcemanthomas Spurs defense - Top 5 with Wemby , botto 5 without Min defense- Top 5 with Rudy, Top 5 without Rudy. Now pick your DPOY
@user-lb3gz3zq7sАй бұрын
Yep, I often say DTPOY for defensive TEAM player of the year, which describes Rudy's case for the award, as he's most likely going to be rewarded for being the defensive leader of a team which analytics say contain 3 of the top 10 defenders in the league... Denying the massive impact of Wemby on the Spurs' defense which you can see by comparing their stats when he's on vs off the court is feeding into narrative-led voting.
@user-lb3gz3zq7sАй бұрын
@@TheIcemanthomasthe Wolves' defense without Rudy isn't very different, whereas the Spurs' defense without Wemby is much different. So here you have it, value. Also, there are obviously defensive individual stats like blocks, steals and deflections which Wemby completely dominates, but these get quickly ignored when building narratives based on shallow references to so called "value". Rudy is a good defender on a very good defensive team, but he's not nearly as disruptive to other offenses as Wemby.

I’m glad I wasn’t someone who thought Wemby couldn’t bully other players. It’s was pretty simple math imo. Wemby is 240lbs and could be even heavier since that was at the beginning of the season. And the average nba player is 6’7” at like 210lbs. Meaning he has about 30lbs on probably over 50% of the nba. And the problem that the lower center of gravity most players would have against him is the fact that he is overly lanky. If you try to back Wemby down and you’re not Giannis or someone similar in size like embiid, LeBron or jokic. His freakishly long arms can easily pick your pocket. So for what he has a weakness he often has a solution. -I mean his “major” weakness is his teammates, and lack of experience. He’s gonna get better teammates and experience down the line. But yeah, it was kinda funny seeing people say he’s gonna get bullied in the nba for being too “skinny” Unfortunately him being “skinny doesn’t mean the weight he has vanishes. It’s not like a 5’5” guy is gonna back down a 6’4” guy who is 30lbs heavier. Do we understand now? Switch the height difference and you realize how stupid so many arguments were against Wemby.
