Hi Joelson, Just my perspective that is all. Victor doesn't seem to be going too hard on the young guy either. My teachers have included Richard Davis, John Lockwood, Joe Morris, Cecil Mcbee, John Mcneil and Ran Blake. These teachers have built their lives around playing professionally doing what they love and are interested in helping the next generation of serious and passionate musicians do the same. Usually when teachers recognize that the student is ready to move to the next level musically they will push them a little harder to get them across the finish line so to speak.

This simple way of thinking from Victor literally brings me to tears. He is just sooooo humanitarian and kind. He built it up by humanising and saying you're already an A+ bass player and then to just think about your brother playing drums - and he coached you through taking your time and not rush it. He used gentle words of encouragement and gave you the space to think and chill and … voila! you found the groove :) You weren't just playing the song - you were thinking about the rhythm and the groove. Fantastic work from Mister Wooten. Asmar … I'll be surprised if you don't think back on that moment as being a game-changer for how you think about playing bass.

this kids going places. how do you play without thinking about it? best lesson ever.
@dbspaceoditty
@dbspaceoditty 4 жыл бұрын
@IyaEarthseeds its not a simple concept to take into practice for a lot of musicians. i am tone blind (similar to tone deaf) for somebody who cant just "play with other people" i am ostracized from jam sessions and group play because i cant "play in key" because i cant hear the different keys. i cant play what they are playing. a jam session defeats the purpose when i need a few tab sheets just too keep track of what notes im allowed to play. also the main lesson was playing to the music that ISNT there, which was the whole point of the lesson. the kid will be able to visualize the music instead of just playing along with his brother. when he is able to visualize his brother plaing drums, he will be able to then visualize what he wants to do, and figure out juicy jams while waiting for the bus. this was about improving is solo play. not incorporating into others. did you watch the video or just try to make a witty comment?
