i remember watching this when i was, like, 8, and thinking they were all just taking some sort of elaborate nap. oh how wrong i was.

So to everyone who is still confused about this: This is not a mating dance, orgy or anything like that. The only (quote) "a little less innocent" part is Victoria's "awakening" in contrast to her solo at the beginning. Everything else is them snuggling up together, in the safety of their community, cleaning each other etc. like cats do irl. Source: One of the actors who was in this very production. Just to clear this up for everyone freaking out about twins/siblings being near each other or this whole scene in general.

Victoria’s probably like, “if you drop me, I swear to god...”

Fun fact: Jacob Brent (the performer playing Mr. Mistoffolees in this production) did a live stream recently and said that this is indeed NOT a mating scene, rather the cats on the sidelines were grooming and cleaning one another. Sadly, I haven't been able to find a full recorded live stream, but there are a few snippets of it on KZfaq and one channel talks about what was said during it.

Okay, here's my verdict on this scene: it's pretty impossible to deny that the dancing is sensual in nature. Although that may be the case, the way in which it is portrayed is not as heated, passionate lust, but instead as beautiful, delicate intimacy. The tone and feeling of this scene is much different than, say, Bombalurina's dancing in Macavity's song. The lights here are cool and soft as opposed to warm and harsh, and the quiet, mystical aura of the music provides a sense of enchantment. This dance focuses on the beauty of intimacy rather than its passion, giving contrast to all of the other moments that show the more frenzied, excited side of the coin. *cough* Rum Tum Tugger, the kittens, Bombalurina *cough* Also, if this was a coming-of-age for Victoria, then this would be her first introduction to the newest chapter of her life. She may be nervous, but I would imagine for the cats this is a comforting sort of ritual. The dance is their way of showing Victoria that she is accepted, and the way they all curl up next to each other at the end shows their sense of belonging together. And as for Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer... um, I'm not sure? Maybe they were doing something, or maybe they were just having a sibling cuddle. Who knows? (personally, I'm going with the second option) If you read that whole thing, I thank you. I just wanted to share my thoughts as to why there may be more to this scene than just a cat... uh, "party".

Plato's lift and lowering of Victoria is a very difficult move even in a ballet! For those who are like "...he's checking out her butt...!" I need to tell you, no, he's probably trying to make sure he don't drop her! These are professional dancers, folks. And on another note, the actor playing Plato is gay in RL, so I doubt he is "checking her out".

i have to say it makes sense for this scene to be in the musical, after all cats are hella touchy, they do stuff that could look sexual when a human does it and i gotta say round of applause for the actors doing this without showing any uncomfiness, i mean its true, most people are probably gay / they are normal with this since dancing and acting can go to the point where everyone is in everyones business, but its still such a good performance and the smoothness when Plato lifts and puts down victoria is amazing

I’m watching this movie so differently now that I know the actress playing Victoria was in the early stages of pregnancy while filming

Over 20 years later, and I still find this scene romantic (I was a teen when I first saw this movie). I am torn to on who to ship Victoria with, Plato or Misto (I don't want to butcher his name lol).
