For a small single cylinder live steam engine, this locomotive pulls well. I love that I can change the wheel gauge on this loco between 32 mm and 45 mm gauge. The loco is about 1:19, or 16 mm to the foot scale.
The spare Kadee G scale couplers were easy to mount once I thought about the problem for a while and came up with a plan.
One big improvement was my packing the cylinder glands with teflon string. This stopped steam sneaking out there. If it was a gas engine you’d say I improved compression. My previous (first) Brunel video shows how I did that.
The other improvement is a blast pipe that directs steam up and away instead of out the side of the cylinder. I’ve seen that side exhaust in other’s KZfaq videos. I’ve never run the engine without my added blast pipe (made from a spare Accucraft blast pipe). This is also duscussed in my previous video.
This video shows my second run of this engine. I ran it constantly for almost an hour - refilling lubricating oil, water and fuel.
I really like this odd little geared engine. It’s quite different than any of my other engines. Despite having bigger, more realistic, fancier engines, I also have a huge soft spot for my little Mamod Mk 3. Mamod scores high for me regarding live steam fun!
🙂
Cheers,
