It hit us in Wyndham Vale Victoria about 3.00pm. (We're west of Melbourne) Temperature dropped down from 42C - 26C in about15 minutes. Sounded like a train going through a tunnel, huge hail stones, heavy rain, wind speed was 142kph.

It strikes me as most likely being a microburst - so many healthy trees split apart vertically, the number of them unexplainable for even 100+kmh winds but more easily understandable in terms of high downward pressure pushing branches away from each other?
@kestrelthesoldier5 ай бұрын
Victorian Storm chasers confirmed it to be a microburst. I thought exactly the same thing as you.

Came through Maryborough (vic) at just after 2pm at 100km+ - I lost half of my shed roof - it lays in the garden squashing newly planted trees :( I too thought it was a tornado because the wind (in an instant) changed direction from North to South then to North again.

We got absolutely smashed by this storm in the Eastern and south eastern suburbs
@Ozvideo19595 ай бұрын
I'm in Mooroolbark, Vic and we copped it pretty hard too, but the worst of it was over in about 45 minutes. Then the wind dropped here about 4:30, and we lost power for about 20 hours. We were probably a little bit lucky here because the storm was obviously much worse out in the Latrobe Valley. Out in the west of the state there looked to be a lot of dust kicked up by the wind, probably from building sites.
@danamummabear97995 ай бұрын
@Boxing4K Our power went out for about the same amount of time as you, we are in Bayswater. Down the road in knoxfield still had no power today! Apparently some areas have no power for up to another week or 2. Unbelievable the sheer power of that storm. Roughly 530,000 homes and businesses lost power at the peak of it all. Now there's still roughly 70,000 without power. My 5 year old daughter was absolutely terrified during the nastiest part of the storm, poor bubba was screaming and holding her ears, the noise of the storm was like a freight train going through the house

Hi. South Oz here. In the southern regions of this nation which includes Melbourne, it’s Tornado season from Sept 1st till May 15th. In the northern tropics, it’s Cyclone season starting from Nov 1st till March 31st. Australia gets almost everything you can imagine from teensy fast moving cloud burst to F4-F5 Tornadoes and Cat 5 Cyclones.
