@@Kat-mu8wq and a lot of homes have a more open floor layout and don't even have a door separating the kitchen from the other rooms (even though the home in this episode had a door that could be closed).

My mini poodle mix is too small to be a counter surfer, but she is a coffee table surfer xD Walks around like a little meerkat hahah

Hahaha 😁 my mini poodle can just put his front paws on the kitchen counter and see everything that's there.....but it's all out of reach 😄 and he just looks so pitiful knowing what's there and not being able to do anything about it. I don't have a coffee table, so that problem is solved. I also taught him to back out of the kitchen by walking into him and he automatically backed away. Now when I say out, he knows he has to get out of the kitchen.

My dog used to be a horrible counter suffer... ate a bunch on brownies left on the counter when he was left alone for 1 MINUTE one time!! Safe to say from then on he was never allowed in the kitchen. He knows leave it, but as soon as no one is watching, he takes full opportunity. That day I learned why some owners never let their dogs in the kitchen... especially super smart dogs who are highly food motivated and love to use their paws. I honestly have never seen someone who has a door in there kitchen before tho, so how is this supposed to help the majority of people with this problem?

@@briannaberlin6851 no, we have a very open kitchen, there's no specific walkway. We just put him in his kennel when we leave, since we never leave him for too long

You can use other things like baby gates for doorways or wire playpens (16 ft long) for more open concept homes. - The Team at VSA and Positively

@@melissagoodman1833 yeah... Our lab can jump over 7 ft. 16ft long would be the entire hallway which is her area when alone or for bedtime.

They can do it, but it doesn't solve the problem, if they forget the door open, the problem is there again.

@@samanthaabreu782 if they are consistent in training the “back” command to keep the dogs behind the kitchen threshold, the dogs will learn to respect the boundary and stay out of the kitchen, even if the door is open.

I'm still working on potty training with my german shepherd he's 5 to 6 months old I didn't think he'd grow grow fast he's a puppy but he's huge I expected him yo stay half his size to a year old atleast and I didn't know if I could train a puppy puppy cause he may be too young to understand

That won't stop them counter surfing, that's why the video shows him climbing the kitchen with no food out. Closing the kitchen door is more effective.
