Nothing happened 'on france', we had no war with France (capital 'F' you illiterate) during her reign and Victoria was immensely popular, apart from the time when she withdrew from the public because of grief over the death of her husband Albert, but when she came back as not only Queen but Empress of India she became more popular than ever, and an immensely stabilising force throughout the Empire.

1. Queen Victoria would give her grandchildren a pound for each tooth that they lost. One time, Alice lost three and the Queen said: "Ooh, that's going to be expensive." 2. Queen Victoria would always go out after a late lunch, no matter the weather. Aged 15, Alice was very proud of herself because she took her grandmother out in bad weather. She never minded. 3. Alice never learned to cook at all, asides from toffee and regretted this. 4. Alice and her brother were brought up strictly and taught to behave themselves. 5. Alice didn't see much of her grandmother, Queen Victoria, during the Diamond Jubilee. She and her brother watched from the rooftops of Buckingham Palace. He was supposed to be in a carriage with his mother and was late. He ran downstairs quickly, putting on his kilt. Their mother was also sick on the carriage ride there so it wasn't very pleasant for Charlie. In hindsight, Alice was glad not to be in the carriage. 6. Alice went to Germany and met her cousin Kaiser Wilhelm II, who was twenty years her senior. She found him arrogant and pompous. She and her mother reluctantly lived in Germany for Charlie's education. They were surrounded by sycophants (usurpers). The only compliment she could give Germany is that all Germans were very stipt and all their military movements were done very beautifully. 7. Alice thinks her cousin, Kaiser Wilhelm, was very envious of Britain for its music and culture. She says that despite everything, he adored and loved his grandmother, Queen Victoria. 8. During the funeral, Alice was waiting with other family members at Windsor Station. The horses wouldn't start because of the cold. And so, the soldiers went first to save time. Alice thinks it's the origin of that tradition and that it looks beautiful. 9. She said Queen Victoria was a dear old thing, who was fun and nearly died of laughter.

I noticed that right away and wondered the same thing! "Her Majesty Mrs. Brown" is one of my favorite movies, and it's terrific to have this little sighting of HM and Brown!

DaphneHarridge That will depend on the date of the picture. Brown died in 1883.

That was marvelous! I really do like that Prince John, bless his young heart, is getting better known. None of us should ever hide family away.. Thankfully, ours is a more enlightened time.

He was very much in the public view until his illness became uncontrolable. He said & did whatever came to his mind & often embarrassed the family. And his seizures took a big tole on him & his family entering WWI.

In the first video shot of her in 1896, the man in the hat with the beard walking beside her carriage is czar Nicholas the 2nd of Russia, and the woman on the other side is his wife (Alexandra of Hesse and by Rhine) who was Victoria’s granddaughter.

Wow this ladies life was extrodinary! To think when she was born, her grandmother was Queen. She then saw her uncle, and 2 male cousins, become King and then her 3rd cousin Elizabeth become Queen. What a life!

She used to go shopping on her own until her 90s travelling by bus. Now, compare her to Princess Michael of Kent ( pushy)....Horrid woman.

The first time I saw Princess Alice's picture, I thought I was looking at myself, though I'm not related to her at all. She's a lovely lady! I love her stories! Thank you for sharing this video!

Wonderful, moving interview. Her insight on the Kaiser's personality is corroborated by many historians and worth retaining. A distinguished lady and a good heart, a tribute to the Royal Family at their best

Wonderful! These ladies are from the same time as my great-grandmother and unfortunately she was gone before I could think of all the questions I would ask her if given the chance.
