I'm on KZfaq because I've lost my victorinox Swiss army knife which I've had with me every single day for about 15 years 😔 I'm very upbeat about it most have come out of my pocket when i was taking the dogs for a walk I've looked over and over again for it know good 😔 so this is the reason I'm on KZfaq looking at Swiss army knifes to see what other options there is it's not for what it was worth it was because I've never been a day without it for over 15 years so I'm on the look out for a new Swiss army knife hope the next one will last as long thanks for sharing this information with us 👍

Hi William. There's nothing worse than that. I carried a Leatherman Squirt S4 for well over a decade and that fell out of my pocket. Check the Pioneer, Electrician, Pruner, Farmer and the X versions of the Pioneer & Farmer. There's some great option s there. Have a great weekend buddy

I've got about 40 Victorinox Swiss Army Knives and the Cadet is one of them. Each can be more appropriate at any given time. Last year, my friends and I went to a bar where they give you a pat down at the door and blades aren't allowed in. We were going to smoke cigars outside after the bar. I hid the Cadet in my shoe and made it into the bar no problem. After a few drinks, we went outside for smokes and I used the Cadet to cut the cigars. Other models are good for other things. If you need to open a wine bottle, the Climber or Huntsman would be great.

I like the Cadet. I like the awl on the Pioneer to but not enough for the fatter carry. Minimalist but full function stuff for the pocket is great. I actually have the Skillhunt E3A flashlight which might be from the same factory as the Olight I3E EOS you have. They have the dimensions within a millimeter. The Skillhunt has a higher CRI Samsung LED is the only major difference. Recently I stopped carrying that and I actually have a Tank007 E15 Ai right now on my keychain which is less than half of the size of those and still a 1 mode. While that is a cheap button cell flashlight, it has great run time and one of the very smallest with optics and decent LED. It can't sustain being bright for long but after days of being constantly on it's still giving some light. The LR44 button batteries have some voltage sag being alkaline, so even when slightly dead if you leave it a couple hours the batteries recover and I get brighter light for a few minutes when I turn it back on to do a task. A decent really small simple option.

Hey PG. I just Googled the Skilhunt e3a, and it is very similar to the Olight. I think you may be right about the manufacturers, although there's a lot of similar flashlights out there. Maybe we're at a point where an original idea or product is getting hard to come across. I'll check out the Tank007 light. I've been meaning to make a super lightweight EDC piece of content for a while now and this may have just make the cut. Thanks for commenting buddy
@practicalguy973
@practicalguy973 3 жыл бұрын
@@MoorlanderEDC Yeah you could be right. It could be a copy from a different manufacturer! They looks so similar apart from the knurling and LED tint. Super light weight EDC sounds like a great video. Tank007 makes a lot of budget lights, that E15 Ai is just well designed for a simple mini option with a lot of run time if needed and it's IPX8. I see you have the Olight i1R2 EOS and that would be a similar size and more popular choice since its rechargeable and modern option. The only thing is the battery life is pretty low even at 5 lumen and lithium just cuts off and gives no light to protect the battery most of the time.

I got into Alox with 84 mm models (Bantam, then Cadet). Before I got my first 93 mm SAK, I thougt I'll never use the awl, just like I have hardly used it on my Cellidor SAKs. I just hardly ever have to drill a hole into stuff. But it turned out that it can do so much more than that! It's probably my most used tool nowadays. With a little fantasy, you can find all kinds of random uses for it: scraping, scribing, striking a ferro rod, cleaning out dirt from small gaps etc. - and my main use: opening boxes. It's sharp enough for that, and I can keep my blade clean of tape glue, ready for food prep. I also like the beefier blade and bottle opener on the 93 mm.
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC 4 жыл бұрын
I think this is where I'd love to build my dream SAK. I generally find there's a tool in each that doesn't get used much. My perfect would be Pioneer size, with the normal blade, bottle opener, smaller blade from the Electrician and the scissors from the Pioneer X... and that configuration would be called 'The Moorlander' of course :D Thanks for watching and commenting PS. What would be your ideal set up?
@miklospinter
@miklospinter 4 жыл бұрын
@@MoorlanderEDC This setup sounds very similar to a custom SAK that I've already seen a few times, an "Electrician X". By swapping the can opener to an E-blade, you get what you described, but you also get the reamer "for free" because it's on the blade layer anyway, so it doesn't take up extra space. Or you could have the E-blade instead of the reamer, like on the Scout (but you might need some extra spacers and a modified back spring for that, I'm not sure), but then you have some space free for a can opener or something else opposite the bottle opener. I don't have any wishes like that :) Most of the time I carry a Pioneer, plus a Classic SD on my key chain, and varios other SAK in my backpack, in my coat packet, in the car etc. but most of the time, the Pioneer is enough.
@guy3nder529
@guy3nder529 Жыл бұрын
@@MoorlanderEDC If I may barge into your discussion, I find that I require a phillips driver on whatever I edc. The can opener on my pioneer fills that role well enough but if we talk about a dream knife it would probably include a 3d phillips somewhere in there as well. I also never tried neither the E-blade nor the pruning blade on the 93mm SAKs and I can't quite say which one I prefer, but I do like their concept. The bottle opener is also good for light prying and lastly I really like the reamer. I guess that's my dream knife.

Hi Ryan. Hope you're well my friend. I definitely know what you're saying here. I do like Leathermans, and I appreciate they have that over build, constructed to last build quality however they're pretty big and heavy. A simple Victorinox, plus some Knipex Pliers can be just as effective, weight half the amount and also not break the bank. I've been holding off making content on the Leatherman Free line, especially the T4 and T2 as there's just so much wasted space within their design. I'm also a scissors guy. The SOG Snippet is one of my most carried tools. Shame they decided to cancel making them All my best buddy 🙌

My favorite Alox model for urban edc, is the Electrician and for the outdoors, is the Alox Harvester, or Swiss Army 7 I think, now the call it like that. However, I still prefer the combo Explorer with the Spirit X, for urban edc and for the outdoors, the 111mm Rucksack! I have tested, all of their popular models and these are my conclusions, on what works best, for each situation. Alox models though, are hard to beat. They feel more solid ! ps Nothing beats Vicotrinox, Leathermans are good, but come 2nd at best and that's only for their older models, since their new ones, break and rust, faster than the establishment of the new 5G. PS Sorry for the bad joke, but I couldn't hold, because all my Leathermans are full of rust and have broken springs or pliers. Nice review again, keep it up!!

The Cadet would be even better if they used the bottle /can opener combination tool from the Bantam and Compact, instead of having it on separate tools. They could then add a pair of scissors where one of them tools were. They could use the file with the small screwdriver end to make up for the loss of the small screwdriver on the can opener. It would take up no extra space or weight with this configuration and would make the Cadet even more practical because it would have everything it has now but with the advantage of scissors

Hey, I have the version with the sandpapery, recessed file. It has actually left scratches on the blade, particularly one long one that is about half the width of the blade. I don't use the file very often, so it's not really a problem for me but just know that the file with the sandpaper surface is actually going to scratch the knife. If you get that version, you'll notice a rough feeling when you pull the file out with the blade still in. That's it scratching, it happens because you naturally have to put a bit of pressure inwards when you're pulling the file out - pressure inwards pushes it towards the blade. If you want to use the file, I'd deploy the blade first to get it out of the way and then the file after. I also don't understand why the file faces towards the blade, it seems like a terrible oversight. Thankfully the file is just not useful to me especially since it's a weird sandpaper texture instead of the standard wood file texture in the video here.
