The Antoine Dupont-inspired French side was looking to win their first Sevens title in 19 years. Great Britain, who lost their first two matches in the Pool stage (one to France), were looking to cap off a resurgent tournament with victory.

The Brits are the Karens of rugby ^^ They feel so entitled and they're so used to having fishy calls going their way that whenever a ref does his job properly and doesn't favor any team, they whinge and yell and throw tantrums ^^ Immature useless chauvinists.

Du point , no sense playing in the sevens version, even in the olympic year. Could easily come in one or two months before , and still make a diffrence...

Nup. It's a very different game with very different decision making on run/kick/pass and a differently managed contact zone/ruck. Also a different aerobic physical challenge. There's a reason Sevens players take time to adapt in XV's and it's mirrored going the other way.

Why is there a GB team.....if there were ever the need to combine nations to form a team it should be the Pacific nations. The "have nots",not the" we got it all and want more" nations. And no... I'm not from the pacific islands.

@@deanhubbard2846did you miss the bit about Sevens being an Olympic sport so the teams are aligned with Olympic eligibility. The UK compete at the Olympics as 'Team GB' so that's how their Sevens have to roll. As for Pasifika, Fiji and Samoa compete in the Sevens series. Tonga are currently in the Challenger competition, one level down from the top 12 teams. Fiji are an absolute powerhouse in Sevens and don't need help to compete. For years they set the standard. They are like the AB's of Sevens.

Congrats to France BUT The elephant in the room that is being ignored ... GB had without question the most decimated squad through injury in the history of rugby 7s finals!! GB had only 4 fully fit players in their starting 7!!!!! THIS IS EXTRAORDINARY!!! Plus they only had only 3 players making themselves available on the bench - all 3 carrying injuries that would normally count them out of selection. Then in the first half one of their only 4 fully fit starting players has a hamstring ping causing him to give the ball away to France allowing them to score their first try. So GB played most of the match with only 3 fully fit players!!! In terms of historical significance and inspiration, the fact that France won is secondary to the fact that with only 3 fully fit players on the pitch GB kept the scoreline so low!! Sometimes when you lose, you achieve something far greater than victory! Congrats to France, you won the match. Well done to team GB you achieved something extraordinary that transcends the sport of Rugby 7s.
