Met these guys back in April of '12 and am still am taken back by the massive size of the DT466 International Diesel sporting 3 Hypermax Turbos, Lenco trans, Strange Rearend and the ingenuity to put it all together in a dragster and make it work. Step forward to September '15 with the guys redesigning the Turbo mounting setup and out for first time with the new setup. First pass off the trailer was a successful 7.06@193.77mph. Still sorting out the clutch the guys made an adjustment and in the second night pass managed to get into the 6's, although way down on mph with a 6.99@177.42mph. It's still a work in progress, as the dragster has been over 200mph in low 6's with the previous setup. 4:00 - takes a minute for that thing to spool up, doesn't it. :) And with the amount of unburned fuel it's throwing, imagine the eye-burn if you were anywhere near it. Wonder what it weighs?

@@Demidar - Diesel is high in oxides of nitrous (NO6 - NO8) when heated, which is the stuff that irritates your throat and makes your eyes water if subjected to the fumes.

Looks like some reinforced chassis work is in order. That thing looks like it’s on springs with all the engine weight.

Chassis is probably more than 6meters long. Very difficult to have a rigid component with that amount of torque.

These engines are in thousands of international trucks. Even the Australian built international trucks used this engine.

Awesome machinery. I couldn't the top of the engine but I do know it's a 6cyl so is this a Cummins because in opinion it's the only diesel that can preform

why cant you instal a supercharger for low revs and avoid the smoke?

this is the problem,the turbos are very big and need a lot of time to turn on.the torque of the engines at low rpm is very bad. need absolutly of the turbo blowing for generate the torque and of course,the power. for lows,the mechanical charger is ideal.

Pau Ayelo they build boost before takeoff and the rpms are high the entire run. Effectively the turbos are in use the entire time, smoke is irrelevant

try Motorkote fuel optimizer in the diesel... you might be surprised what it does... was formulated by Dr. David Purcell who was the original inventor with a Phd in polymer chemistry and a professor at the university of Michigan

Dt466 inline 6cyl, wet sleeve. Arguably one of the best engines ever produced. These are common to see a half a million miles with regular oil changes. Mostly see this motor in medium duty box trucks, school bus, flat bed, and dump trucks.

I know this great engineering and all - but I much prefer the engines and explosive thunder from a Nitro running V8. It will not be very long and we'll see what all-electric powered dragsters can do - and that will NOT be very exciting for me to watch. I LOVE CACKLE and THUNDER!

Basically what I am saying is the Diesel powered dragster is only competitive against other Diesel dragsters, I watch and appreciate all classes of drag racing both as a competitor and spectator since 1965. You are no doubt aware that full bodied cars such as Super Stock, Pro stock and street legal cars can all run in the 6 second area and day of the week, and that's without choking out the entire spectator area with soot, which is a well known carcinogenic, look it up.

Wayne Smith I was wondering how the dragster was classified, can't be top fuel, can't be alcohol, can't pay for the days racing in the sportsman classes. Nice car though, good engineering project.

So as of now spark ignition/gashous mixture engines are still faster in motorsports. I admire people who put in the effort to make something work and prove a point but to me Diesels will always be meant for doing work. They're perfect for getting a lot of work done on less fuel, you have to move that huge pile of material from point A to point B? Diesel gets it done. You want to rip down a drag strip without engulfing the spectators in black sooty smoke? You need spark ignition.
