You are a life saver, I'm putting this bike together for myself. The first bike I've ever tried,they wanted a kings ransom to do it at a bike shop. I got stuck with the front brake release. They don't mention that in the directions. THANK YOU so much!!

Ditto to your comments! It's been 45 years since I adjusted a bike's brakes, so I hesitated. This video brought back all the things I forgot over time, and the tech is different in some areas, so this was a handy guide.

Thanks for the tip. My brakes were sticking on the right front side. I took them apart, clean them and oiled them They were rusty, and now they work fine.

I want to thank you so much. I am 65 and bought this for my disable daughter. I tried to get three different men and offered to pay 100.00 to assemble. I had not one finish. I had no truck to get to a bike shop. I was down to the break system after it sitting in the living room floor for a week. She is now out riding for your help in adjusting the breaks. Thanks so much.

The knurled cable adjustment screw at the brake lever is called a "barrel adjuster" in bicycle mechanic speak. When removing the inner cable, you don't need to remove the barrel adjuster, you only need to rotate both parts so their slots line up with the slot in the brake lever, and then slip out the cable.

Thank you for this one, too. When I realized I had to get the brake apart so that I could put the front wheel on, I found a way to get it open, but then I couldn't figure out how to get it back together. I should've come back inside and watched the video before I started messing with it, because it turns out I made the whole process a lot more difficult than it needed to be. With the help of this video, I eventually got it.

You are an amazing man, after watching this video I expertly fixed the front brakes on my schwinn, thing is so tight now, and it does not rub on the wheel, a tip I can give if your brakes are rubbing on wheel is to tighten the black phillips screws to keep the brake shape from tilting and therefore rubbing on the wheel, hold the brake shape in place, and tighten both screws to keep it in place.

Thank you so much for this. I'm off to sort my front break. Though another issue I have, is my back chain comes off randomly, then I have to pop it back on! I'd really quite like to know how I can clean and regrease both the chains. I'd be ever so grateful of you could advise me on that. I live in Panama, and regular maintenance for mechanical objects is a must or they perish.
@vidcreations2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. It sounds to me that you have a chain alignment problem. Take the chain off the sprockets, but not the bike. Get a metal straight edge and put one end of the straight edge against one sprocket and see if the other sprocket is touching the straight edge. The back sprocket has a set screw, that when loosened, will let you move the back sprocket.

Prior to cutting the cable its best to make a clean cut. Solder. Smooth. Helps for reassembly. My experience. Often just easier to replace.

I bought the meridian on Amazon and assembled it successfully EXCEPT for adjusting the front brakes. Most of the front brake was already in place but I had to thread through the noodle and connect the cable to the other side. My problem is that no matter what adjustments I apply, the left brake pad stays stuck to the rim while the right brake pad never touches the rim unless I squeeze the brake handle -- in which case the right brake moves most of the distance but the left side hardly moves at all. After much frustration I'm wondering if the wheel is more to the left side - even though it seems evenly centered. Would it work if I just flipped the wheel which would give the left side more space and reduce the space on the right pad? I hope that makes sense - I really need help on this!
@vidcreations4 ай бұрын
If you squeeze the brake handle, and it stops you, you are fine. These brakes pull from one side and what you explained is exactly how they work.

Hello, I’ve just bought a used schwinn meridian, and the brake lock doesn’t work. Is it reparable or it’s better to return the bike? Thank you!

also, the new Meridian has a version with a 7-speed, but unfortunately the manual says nothing about either installing the derailleur, or how to adjust it. Any insights there would be great!

Did your meridian have a stiff and hard to rotate axle? New one just arrived, tried spinning axle by hand but it wasnt easy. I think I need to adjust the 22mm & 23mm nuts on the axle that are against the outter sealed bearings. Will update

Hello, I recently bought this bike, but in cherry color. After i assembled it, i noticed that only 2 of the 4 nuts were on the frame to hold the rear and front together. Do you happen to know what size nuts i could get to replace them?

Go to Ace Hardware Store.

I don't have the bike with me at the moment. If I remember they are 3/8 nut and bolt. If you can, Take one of the ones you have and match them up at a local hardware store. Hope this helps.

My fender on the back seems to rub. Is there a way to give it more clearance?
@vidcreations Жыл бұрын
The best way I found to clear the tire from the fender is to grab hold of the fender and bend it open or wider.
@robertharvey572 жыл бұрын
How do you adjust the front brakes when the 2 pads aren't centered on the wheel? After applying the brake, one pad stays in contact with the wheel while the other releases. You can manually center them again, but each time you apply it one of them stays against the wheel (not hard, but they're not centered).
@vidcreations2 жыл бұрын
There are center pull and side pull brakes. The Schwinn has side pull and there is no way, that i know of, to keep one of the pads from gently rubbing. If you want both pads not to rub, you would need to install center pull brakes, or a disc brake.
@viewer543222 жыл бұрын
There is a small philips head screw on each caliper, the manual mentions turning them moves the pad if I recall. Also see 11:30 at this Park vid for more detail kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrORbLiivp_Tkp8.html
@viewer543222 жыл бұрын
Update: If you find that after applying brakes that one arm/pad remains too close too rim after releasing lever, you can adjust the arm by turning the small phillips head screw. My brake caliper arms now perfectly re-center without touching the rim now. See vid I linked above or download the owners manual for info. NOTE: These screws are very small, I advise using good screw driver that fits tight to avoid stripping. P.S. if in the past you often find yourself stripping philips head screws and think its because the screws are cheap, the real reason is because most phillips head screws on asian products arent really 'phillips' but are 'JIS screws' (google that if curious). The screw used on the calipers is a JIS #2 sized Cross, a 'phillips' will work but the proper tool to avoid stripping is something like a japanese driver such as a Vessel Megadora 980 Impacta P2 #2 (no affiliation, just a quality japanese tool)

Are there any plans to show how to repair or replace the back brake of the Schwinn meridian tricycle?
@alejack120013 жыл бұрын
I just saw your video on the rear brake adjustment. So, just for clarity, how to you determine the adjustment and whether the brake itself has wore down that the adjustment isn't enough to slow the trike? I understand the front brake stops the trike. I just want to understand the purpose oof the back brake as well.
@vidcreations3 жыл бұрын
Not at this time. The primary brake is your front brake. The back brake never really works that well.

Thanks for your video. I just received a Meridian Tricycle and I am assembling it... have a question to you. My brake cable at the rear brake does not hold... I tried barrel slot or cable nut slot to use, but still when I press brake lever the cable is not working... Please help.
@vidcreations2 жыл бұрын
You may want to watch my video about back brakes for the Schwinn Meridian. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ldNkedGo2r3Odo0.html However, if the cable stop is not holding when you apply the brake, the cable stop needs to be tightened more. Check to see if you have too much slack in the brake cable, thus the cable stop is not activating the brake.

Hello Sir, my problem is that little silver piece in the front that holsters the cable broke. How can I replace it?
@vidcreations2 жыл бұрын
I think I know what part you are talking about, but I'm not quite sure. If you remove the cable and the broken part is on the brake assembly, the easiest thing to do is just replace the entire brake. The brake is pretty universal, inexpensive, and you may be able to pick one up at a store near you. If not, search for "Schwinn Meridian Front Brake." If the broken part is not on the brake, then you need a replacement cable. Hope this helps.

I have a question My front brakes keeps on going off when I trying to stop please tell me why
@vidcreations Жыл бұрын
Your question is a bit vague. I will assume you mean the front brake shoes are falling off the front wheel's rim. It sounds like your brakes either are not tight to the brake caliper or the brake shoes are not properly aligned on the front wheel's rim. Try to follow my steps for replacing the front brake pads at 7:00 in this video and see if that helps.
