I usually agree with the stories at the end but this one is not right. Yes one is happy with less but how come everyone struggles trying to make more? Let's take two students - student A wants top marks, he wants to come first in his class, the exams are coming up - he is up late at night, studying, worrying. And then there is student B, who doesn't care whether he fails or gets low marks - what is he doing? He is happily asleep, snoring or maybe catching a light night movie Which one is happier? B of course! So is the moral to be more like B? Would you ever advice your child to be like B or A? A, of course, but why? A is unhappy, whereas B is happy. Why would you want your child to be unhappy? The answer is clear - nothing is given to us in this life especially the good things - if we want something we have to work for it, sacrifice for it. Student A stays up late, worries because he wants good marks. Bad marks make him feel bad, he is sad, he cries when he gets them and that is the fuel that he uses to stay up late and study. This fuel is called pain - and student B lacks this pain and in this case we see pain, unhappiness is good If you want to do something great, make your parents proud, your teachers proud, make a name for yourself then you need this pain At different stages of our lives, our views change - as we grow older, we slow down, our desires go down and it is then we start to think like student B - where the above story makes sense. But for young people this is the wrong advice

Sir with due respects to your concerns i beg to differ. The story does not glorify poverty but says happiness does not depend on the materialistic possessions alone but by being content with what one has. It definitely does not say dont work hard or do not raise yourself to your full potential but even after reaching your goal you may not be happy unless you are contented.

नमस्कार: As a German who has close interests with Indien, I'd say that you lack in clarity of your own thoughts. I'd also say that do not over analyse because it doesn't hold water in this case. Think about how to teach the children to be happy irrespective of the grades. That's the reality of life because all of them can never be scientists, engineers or doctors. सुभमस्तु। Viele Grüße aus Deutschland Dr. L

@@LinusWelt so your country is Ukraine & you are facing a war. The coward wants to be happy, so he runs away - hides in a safe place, he is happy The warrior runs to the front, shot, hurting, bleeding, unhappy You are saying the coward did the right thing? Basically it depends on what your goal is - your goal it seems is to be happy & so you avoid all things that might make you unhappy But that is also a function of getting old - as we get older, our past is behind us, retired, we look forward a time of peace, happiness - play cards, travel, enjoy! But that is not how the young look at the world - they have dreams, aspirations and along with those dreams and aspirations comes pain & suffering & they understand that - you did as well when you were young, it seems you have forgotten Whether it is wanting to win a gold medal at the Olympics, your favorite soccer team wining the Bundesliga championship, wanting to be the next Einstein or the next Mozart - wanting the woman you fall in love with to return your love - all these dreams come with heartaches You may not win the Olympic gold, maybe come in 2nd Your favorite team loses the championship, badly! Dreams of being the next Einstein or Mozart are crushed! The woman you fall in love with breaks your heart! And so the weak give up! They hide - by not having any desires or aspirations they are insulated from pain & suffering While Kid A will face pain, suffering, disappointment, Kid B will always be happy But such happiness comes with a cost - it is Kid A that will lead humanity forward It is the dreamers, those who aspire for the hand of God that have moved humanity forward One of my favorite quotes - JS Mill - "I would rather be a Dissatisfied Socrates than be a Satisfied Pig"

These stories are silly - the poor man is so happy, he works hard and sleeps well whereas the poor rich guy can't get to sleep at all. yeah right, this is why everyone is trying to get rich so that they won't get to sleep? This is glorifying poverty - as if it is better to be poor than be rich - but that is the wrong advice
