All charges against Scottie Scheffler have been dropped as part of a new agreement between attorneys.
On Wednesday, attorneys met in court to discuss the motion to drop charges.
"Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler," Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell said in court. "Mr. Scheffler's characterization that this was 'a big misunderstanding' is corroborated by the evidence. The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Det. Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler, however Mr. Scheffler's actions and the evidence surrounding their exchange during this misunderstanding do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offenses."
Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, was arrested May 17 in a bizarre incident at the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club where the PGA Championship was being contested. According to Louisville Metro police, Scheffler failed to obey traffic commands as he attempted to gain access to the course and "dragged" an officer to the ground with his vehicle.
Scheffler was charged with felony 2nd degree assault of a police officer; 3rd degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic. Scheffler called the incident a "big misunderstanding" in statement later that day.
He was able to leave jail and make it back to the course for his morning tee time.
A man working security was hit by a bus and killed outside the course in an unrelated incident prior to Scheffler's arrest.

How ironic, a prosecutor explaining the background as to why a cop did something wrong as opposed to the defendant’s attorney. If he didn’t have his body cam on he should be fired…period.

There was never a time when the evidence supported any charges. It took 12 days to admit it. Unacceptable

That officer needs to be fired he lied and was caught lying because of the amount of press attention a normal person would be screwed and jailed by his lying

Isn’t this the same “stooge” that pushed this as “not appropriate”. This DA should be released of his duties.

Is it a policy violation if an officer observes another officer committing a violation, and doesn’t report said violation?

It took the prosecutor 6 minutes 10 seconds to finally present the motion to dismiss. It took Mr Romines 10 seconds to not saying nothing because he knew he was winning the entire process, asked to be excused, and walked out. Pretty strong mic drop!

I wish Judge Delahaney ordered Scottie to do a court mandated appearance on the Bryan Bros Golf Channel.

The LPD was probably hoping for more corroborating evidence to support Gillis's take on this incident but it never came, certainly not enough to warrant these charges. Not having the body cam activated didn't help his cause, although one could say that it might have damaged him big time had it been on so no one will ever know for sure.

Don't think it was about corroborating evidence. If you listen carefully to the prosecutor, he stated that what Mr. Scheffler said was true... also meaning, what the officer said was false. All the camera footage shared also reflected the trustfulness in Mr. Scheffler's statement. And also showed the falsity of Mr. Gillis charge.

We filed charges based on the words and statements of the officer. Period. The officer failed to turn on his body camera and in this day and age that should result in charges being dropped unless there is some over riding unquestionable evidence. Failure to turn on a body camera multiple times by any officer should result in termination. LMPD should now report how many interactions with the public occurred where an officer failed to turn on a body camera.

"We drop the charges". Why use 4 words when l can drone on and on, use hundreds and hundreds words that ultimately come to the same outcome. Clearly it's not only cops that copsplain.

THE STATE HAS THE DUTY TO PROSECUTE THE CRIMINAL ACTS OF ALL OFFICERS INVOLVED... the Prosecutor is as corrupt as the Police... the "Officer" committed false arrest, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, mis-malfeasance, falsifying charges, falsifying government documents, deprivation of rights; the "Officer" is also the sole cause if 95% of his injuries latching onto a moving automobile when he could have (being an accident scene recreation expert) instead pounded on the hood or trunk to get the driver's attention... the Prosecutor is also REQUIRED to disclose exculpatory evidence, AND prosecute the "Officer" if there is evidence of the "Officers" wrong doing... If there is any true Justice the "Officer" should not be being treated as thought everything he did was lawful, and everything Scottie did was unlawful...🤔
